even those of you who don't like Gase, you gotta believe that he's at least marginally better than what we've had. His floor is still better than Philbin and Campbell (the latter only because he's still way too green to be a HC).

 

Not really, he's another unknown.... sure there is high hopes that he can turn Tannehill around but can he handle the full workload?

I honestly rather not experiment as much as I'd like to see him work with Tannehill.

 

Why is he better then what we've had?

My preference now is a coach whose already has been a head coach before. Lovie Smith or Shanahan.

 

I don't know why people are *****ing right now about types of coaches.

We've tried retreads. We've tried college coaches. We've tried first time HCs.

There's no category left to try, which means people need to stop the argument of broad types of coaches and make their arguments specifically about the individual coach. If a person doesn't like Gase because of reasons specific to Gase, then fine. But when we start saying we don't like Coach X because he's young or new or old or past his prime or whatever...then its not valid.

 

I agree. There's no right model to hire a coach, there is only the right coaching hire.

 

tom coughlin, hue jackson, mike shula all better canidates than adam gase.

because he won a playoff game with tim tebow ? yeah let that sink in....motha****ing tim tebow, denver scored an NFL Record 606 points with him as OC and how about jon kitna passing for 4000+ yards in 2007 when this number still meant something and he was detroits QB coach...yeah thats right in 2007 he was 29 years old back then....i want hue jackson for this team but if its Gase...no problem

 

Honestly, in a perfect world, where I had the power to make things happen, we'd hire Shanahan or Coughlin, and get Shula as OC and Assistant HC. oh, I'd also make something happen with Scarlett Johansson, but that's a different thread.

How is it remotely possible to give credit to a QB coach for winning a playoff game? Manning is much more responsible than Gase for Denver, and Kitna threw for 4000 yds the year before Gase became the QB coach.

The Gase resume is far from a slam dunk.

Because a string of 1st time failures, because 1st time HCs are an experiment and an experienced HC at least knows what he's doing, to get a little continuity.

......philbin was a glorified game planner and Sparano a line coach.

 

Veteran HCs at new teams fail just as much as new guys.

Pretty rare to see a coach have success, but eventually get fired or resign, and then find success again. Coughlin is my best example. Andy Reid comes to mind, though perhaps he was just distracted by his ******* kids for a while. Dick Vermeil went out on top and then resurfaced for more. Theres Holmgren in Seattle. Still not the same level for any of them. Parcells was never ran out of town. Hmmm, Who else ? Help me out here. How did Don leave Baltimore ?

I think it's safe to say coaches that failed the first time but are clearly worth getting another chance are the most successful.

If People want a guy with some impressive HC experience, albeit limited...and knows how to run an offense.... They should be begging for Hue.

If we want the best odds of finding our long term coach, however..We go for Hot, Fresh, and Ready. That's why your hearing a lot of Koetter,Gase, and other young coordinators.

 

Gase had a lot to do with the offense they developed in Denver for Tebow. He's always been a very respected coach everywhere he's been. He's very well regarded. Its not a slam dunk and there is certainly a fair amount of risk involved with him but he is a very hot name around the league for good reason. Everywhere he's been the offense has improved, specifically the Qb position. If he can improve Tannehill the team is in the playoffs next year almost certainly. Its worth the risk IMO. Its a big swing so its either a home run or a strikeout but I'm ok with that.

 

I'm ok with this if true but he isnt even in my top five choices. I really wanted someone with more experience

 

Defense was atrocious, the team was undisciplined (in a bad way) and the answer is:

"Hire a newb HC who never played FB in college, has -0- HC experience on any level..b/c offense"

I remember the Bears fans coming to the Fin fan boards and warning us what was coming.
Nothing they said prepared us for the actual destruction to come.

 

Shula has said he won't do any interviews until his teams done. I commend him for that but that might honestly mean February. Most these owners aren't going to wait.

 

I think the "X type of coach" argument still holds some weight. Not in an overall sense (retread is way better than hot flavor OC!), but more in a specific situational sense.

I mean, we are coming off of several not just down years, but downright dysfunctional years as a team and organization. I think that is why some people are pulling more for an experienced coach as they may have the gravitas to really shift our organization and provide a steadying influence. Look at what Del Rio did in Oakland this year as an example. On the other hand, I think a team like Tampa may be more suited to the hot new thing (Koetter apparently). They have a young core and want to infuse energy and new ideas more than a steady influence like Lovie.

Ultimately, regardless of pedigree, it will come down to the individual - I do agree with that. Personally, I was on the Payton train. I thought he got a raw deal with Bountygate and the suspension and his GM just could not draft or add good talent at need positions (defense!). Whatever, he is apparently off. Tom Coughlin would be my choice then. Let him coach for 4-6 years or something, get our ship righted, maybe make a run before he hangs em up. I am intrigued by Shula and Jackson, am iffy but willing to try on Gase. Would jump at Chip Kelly easy (he may fail badly, but I think he also has by FAR the highest ceiling). Aside from that ... uninspiring.

 

Not to mention he will have a QB coach to handle Tanny. Not like he is going to be one on one with Tanny the entire season. He will have head coach responsibilities. His staff is where the rubber will meet the road. Id rather have a HC who can walk in day one and get respect because of who he is and what he has accomplished AND be able to put together a top notch staff. Not saying Gase wont be a good HC but lets be honest. Right now he is an experiment and will have to get players to "buy into" his way of doing things. Something an established coach wont have to do..

He isn't who you think he is either.
I would have said Shula with or without the Panthers having the Uber success they've had this year.
Guy has put in significant time getting experience and learning the game in multiple roles.

He's earned consideration as much as anyone else has and holds great promise.
You're the one looking at this with a narrow view.

Fact is only Mike Shanahan has had two interviews so far. Sounds like he is the front runner so far. Hard to deny that there seems to be a bit more than mutual interest.

 

That's very likely due to the fact, he's not busy right now.

 

Gase has less coaching experience then Cam Cameron had, oh hell no...enjoy Philly...

 

Not sure why everybody is so high on this guy.Bears offence ranked 21st without gase in 2014 and 2015 they ranked 21st again with gase.
I don't see the upside.
