For me, retaining Lamar Miller is our number one in house free agent priority. I complied a list of stats and notes that I found interesting and wanted to share.

    - Miler is now 8th on Miami's all time rushing list (2930). He's 947 yards shy of 4th place.
    - He's 11th in Fins history for rushing TDs (19)
    - He has the fewest fumbles of any Miami player with 275 or more carries (5)

    - He has the 4th most rushing yards as a Dolphin over a player's first four seasons, behind Ronnie Brown, Karim Abdul-Jabbar, and Larry Csonka
    - He has the most rushing yards as a Dolphin over a player's second through fourth seasons (2680)
    - He played in the most games (61) of any RB in Miami history over his first four seasons

    - He has the second most rushing yards through age 24 of any player in Miami history. Abdul- Jabbar had 38 more yards, but on 222 more carries
    - He has more rushing yards and TDs through age 24 than Ronnie Brown did through age 26
    - He has the 5th most receptions of any Dolphin through age 24 (117).

    - He has the 14th most rushing yards in the NFL since he entered the league in 2012
    - He has the 12th most rushing yards in the NFL since he became a starter in 2013. During that time, only McCoy and Charles have a higher YPC.
    - Among RBs, he has the 9th most yards from scrimmage since 2013 (3522)
    - Of the 17 RBs with 600+ touches the last three seasons, he has the 3rd fewest fumbles, averaging 1 every 120 times he has the ball

    - He had the 7th most 20+ yard runs in the NFL in 2015 (7)
    - He had the 4th most 20+ yard TD runs in 2015 (2)
    - He has the 5th most 20+ yard runs in the NFL since 2013 (20)
    - He had the second longest run of the 2015 season (85). He had the longest run of the 2014 season (97)
    - He is the only player with 2 85+ yard runs the last two seasons. Since 2010, Jamar Charles is the only other player with 2.

    - Among HBs, only Frank Gore and Alfred Morris (64) have played in more games since 2012 than Miller (61). Only those three have played in every game the last three seasons.

    Totally agree on Miller.

The more interesting question on offense is what to do with Matthews. Personally, I'd like for us to keep receiving threats that Tannehill has chemistry with, get rid of those that don't, and design an offense around such players rather than the other way around.

That means we get rid of Cameron (really good TE that we just can't seem to make into a weapon), re-sign Matthews, and move towards a 3 WR set that de-emphasizes the role of a receiving TE as the basis of our offense.

I doubt that's the direction we're headed, but the experience with Cameron should teach us something about how hard it is to predict "chemistry", and I'd hate to gamble on that once again with the TE position. Better to actually have something defenses will have to worry about: 3 WR's that are pretty darn good in Parker, Matthews and Landry.

Would love to see both Miller and OV back next year. I think Matthews is the odd one out with the development of Landry and Parker.

I would like Miller back but i don't understand bringing back OV. The guy plays like a jerk and gets way more game losing penalties than helpful plays. If this was his contract year and he played like an asshat how do think he will play after you overpay him?

Who do you propose we sign then? We have a great opportunity to add an elite prospect in the secondary with the 8th pick which we desperately need so I don't think we can get a DE there. If you go to free agency, you're going to over pay just the same as you will with OV. The difference is with OV, we can build some continuity. I make the same arguments about Tannehill, he's got his flaws and you can b**** about him all you want, but in reality it isn't easy to find an upgrade for a better bargain on the open market.

OTC suggests that Vernon is in line for a contract that pays 20-24 million over 4 years. I'd jump at paying him that amount, but I think he'll likely be offered much more by someone else. I think that in a market where he looks to be one of the best 4-3 DEs available, its unlikely we're likely to get him back at an affordable rate, and probably lose him.

when you have coaches that don't care this happens. Hypothetically, if Tom Coughlin comes here, I guarantee those penalties would stop.

Its a big number for DEs. Especially in an offseason where we won't be as flush with cap room.

I believe Ricky had more rushing yards in his first 3 seasons with us than
any of the others had in 4 seasons

    Ricky...3968...3 seasons

    Miller...2930...4 seasons
    Csonka...3031...in 4 seasons
    Brown...3433...in 4 seasons
    Jabar....3063...in 4 seasons

Amazing that Rickey had over 1000 yards more rushing in 3 seasons
than Miller had in 4 seasons

You should be his agent :) but, I agree with you. Imagine what he could do if we actually used him.

On that one, you're right. The way I was using ProFootball Reference, it was only giving me players from the start of their NFL career, not just their career with Miami. Left Ricky out. I think that most of my other stats should hold up, including Miller having the most yards for his second through fourth seasons, and that would even be true if you gave Ricky a mulligan on 2007 when he played one game and gained 15 yards.

Ricky had 137 more carries in his first two years than Miller has had through four. Ricky and Eric Dickerson are the only players in NFL history to ever have multiple seasons of 379 or more carries. They both did it back to back, and Dickerson also had two more such years later in his career.

Larry Johnson (2006) and DeMarco Murray (2014) are the only players to have that many carries in a season since Ricky last did in 2003.

A poor last few games really hurt Miller's YPC, which was on track to be above 5.0 again this year. I think with even a decent offensive line and more carries he could be an elite RB. I don't want to spend a ton because it's RB. But I'd love to have him back.
