This is from Florio and it's safe to say he got this from Armando. Anyway I'm not surprised b/c it stinks of the parcells. He didn't hire Chris but parcells promoted him. Then there's the history between Chris' father & parcells. Is he any good? Who knows, but it just looks like a puppet hire where TBomb will be pulling the strings on personnel matters. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2016/01/02/dennis-hickey-definitely-out-chris-grier-likely-in/
Chris Grier is considered one of the best young talent evaluators in the NFL. He was a hot enough name that both the Jets and Eagles interviewed him for their GM positions last year.
I am beginning to see that Parcells should have been praised for jumping off a sinking ship with rotten leadership the day Ross took over. Parcells is far smarter now in hindsight for his actions once Wayne sold the majority to Ross.
I think the term Cluster**** would be an upgrade to our current situation. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Interviewing isn't hiring. I am no faith in Tannebaum or Ross, so anyone they hire is highly questionable to me. I wish I could be more positive about this coming off season or the direction of this team in the future. It is terrible being so apathetic about a team I have been a fan of since 1966. I just don't believe in Ross and I wake up every morning hoping when I open up this site that I will read Ross has sold the team. It has been like one long nightmare since he became majority owner of the Dolphins.
I understand the skepticism. I'm not much of a Stephen Ross fan either. But in regards to Chris Grier, a guy like him usually doesn't get interviewed unless he's built up a solid reputation. Reportedly he came quite close to getting the GM job in Philly. Eventually this circle of incompetence has to end. I don't know whether Tannenbaum's the guy to do it, but a step forward would be for Ross to let him do what he's paying him to and try to build an organization that's at least on the same page.
Now, now. I'd say the first one was flukish. Not the second one. And as you guys pile on Tannehill, think about how the Jets got to two ABC championship games with Mark ****ing Sanchez. It starts with not having a dog **** team surrounding your qb, lol [emoji1] Sent from my SM-G928V using Tapatalk
I think you guys would sell your left nut to see a playoff win. Admit it. Sent from my SM-G928V using Tapatalk
I'm not passing judgement. Just saying what I think happened. PS - did you buy a PSL??? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using Tapatalk
Hmm, liked Hickey, can understand why he was cut loose, 5-10 with our cap number. What I DISLIKE is by making Grier the GM, the next HC now is handcuffed, and I like Grier he was deeply involved in signing Cam Wake, but still, cart before the horse and tells us a lot about what the HC search will look like, probably not an established name HC
Fair enough. The 2011 team was still decent, but I blame Rex for the team falling apart down the stretch. They did make some real questionable moves, spearheaded by Tannenbaum. Tebow and the massive contract they gave Sanchez after they traded for Tebow immediately come to mind. I did not buy a PSL. I gave up my season tickets and have yet to see a game at MetLife.
It was a cluster**** at the end of last season and going into this season. Getting rid of Philbin, Coyle, Lazor and now Hickey is the cleansing of the cluster**** I don't see the negative side of this. Hickey, though not terrible, didn't fit. This is how you're supposed to get ready to conduct a HC search and "clean house." Finally...no more half *** measures
TBaum picked some of the players in the last draft. Gave Suh that contract. Gave THill that contract. Apparently is going to keep part of the scouting staff that contributed to years of futility. Will remain employed going into 2016 season. Will be point man in HC search which will result in the opposite of a head-strong candidate. How is this not a half measure?
What is cluster**** about our current situation though? We're clearing house and putting one person not Ross in charge so the team has a singular vision going forward....isn't that what we all wanted?
Tannenbaum, for instance, is not your typical "grinder" when it comes to scouting. He does not watch expansive film on players, like many of the general managers in the NFL who came up through the scouting ranks. Ha. How do you "make final decisions" but you aren't a film junky. The Dolphins are in the worst cap space of any team looking to hire a new head coach. I have read many comments that the Dolphin head coaching job is likely the least desirable job which will be available after black Monday. Tannebaum really hasn't shown in his time with the Jets or in his one year with the Dolphins that he knows how to do anything but overspend the owners money for players which don't make the team any better. Having one man in charge with a singular vision is great, if that man knows what he is doing. I just don't think Tannebaum is the right man for that job. I know you tend to look at this organization more positively than I do. I wish I could see a positive in having Tannebaum running the front office but I just don't. I think the Dolphins will end up getting a head coach none of the other teams with a head coaching vacancy will want to hire. I think the Colts, Titans, Lions, Giants, Saints, Chargers, and Eagles will likely all have head coaching vacancies in the next few days. I really don't see any quality head coaching candidate turning down any of those jobs and coming to Miami to work for Ross and Tannebaum. Hopefully I am wrong.
I'm just about done with the organization's hope trafficking. I'm saying this team will get upgraded to cluster**** as soon as they show me somebody remotely capable is running it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
And yet Tanenbaum had a conviction about DT Jordan Phillips and insisted on drafting him. So turn the clock forward- Phillip's underachieving ways have continued, and that 2nd round pick was sorely needed for a shambles of an offensive line with the star LT's knee shredded the year before. The pick after Philips? LT Jake Fisher, who would have been a great selection at a need position, uber talented and great insurance as to Branden Albert's knee rehab. We could have used Fisher in a big way- imagine the difference if we could have had him and not Jason Fox or Dallas Thomas backing up Albert at LT or playing RT when James went down with that toe injury. With the 3rd round pick gone because we desperately had to unload the Dannell Ellerbe contract, that 2nd round pick was a precious commodity that should have been devoted to the OL. Regardless, Tannenbaum insisted that we draft an uber talented, underachieving DT (with Suh having been signed to a mega contract) who also had back surgery. So should the pick have been the talented, underachieving DT coming off back surgery or an excellent, extremely athletic OT prospect who was expected to be a first round pick for our OL that was in dire need of help? Jake Fisher was the next pick off of the board after Phillips, taken #53 overall by the Bengals.
I think Phillip's can eventually develop into a good player. Yet I agree with you that DT was not a need in the second round of last years draft. Especially after the signing of Suh. The fact Tannebaum ignored the real positions of need, offensive line, and secondary early in last years draft, or in the case of the LB position, completely in the draft. It makes you wonder if he actually knows how to build a team or if he just likes to make a big splash by overpaying free agents or average starters already on the team.
That's fair, but does that make us a cluster****? I mean, maybe Tbaum is the guy and maybe he isn't, but I don't think we're dysfunctional anymore. We'll have one clear vision and power structure, and that's been the major problem we've had since Ross took over. You are in the draft for need camp in the top few rounds?
LOL, it is 5:35am here in Maui and I have been up since a little after 2:00 am. That is what happens when you get old and and take naps during the day. You wake up in the middle of the night to pee and you can't get back to sleep. At least there is this forum to check out and in an hour and a half I will be teeing off. I'll record the game and watch it when I get home from the golf course. Then I will probably take another nap and wake up in the middle of the night again. Thank God I don't have to go to a job anymore. I am usually past out on the couch by 3:00 pm most days.
I wasn't the person who said the organization is a cluster****. Even though I do not think Tannebaum is right guy to turn this team around. I always hope I am wrong when I am negative about the direction of this team. Unfortunately though, I have been right more than wrong in recent years and that certainly doesn't make me happy. I am not sure what you mean by your quote about the draft. I think there were players who could have been drafted in the second round who could have filled a bigger need on the team and been more effective in those positions than Phillip's was at DT this year. While Phillip's might develop into a decent player, I was just shocked they drafted a DT that high after spending so much money on the position by signing Suh. Especially when there were much bigger needs on the roster.
Give it time young man. I certainly didn't get here quickly. Remember I was 63 years old before I moved here. So you can certainly achieve this life at a younger age than I did.
One positive, if you're an extremely optimistic person, is the Dolphins can draft virtually any position and it'd fit a need. Only position I can think of that has enough talent is rb assuming they keep Miller. On offense Miller and Landry are the only 2 above avg performers and their positions (rb and slot wr) are about as easy to fill as it gets. On defense we have Jones and Suh. This team is incredibly non talented on both sides of the ball especially when you consider the cap room. You guys who think Ross is bad should consider yourselves lucky you aren't Mets fans. Their owner is the only thing that might keep that team from destroying mlb over the next 5 years.
It's all but confirmed: Dolphins pick Chris Grier as their new GM "The Miami Dolphins were not without a general manager very long. Chris Grier, who has been with the Dolphins 16 seasons, has been tapped as the general manager to succeed Dennis Hickey. The only thing remaining from this becoming official are contract details that are expected to be ironed as early as Monday. The Dolphins declined to confirm this hiring." http://miamiherald.typepad.com/dolphins_in_depth/2016/01/dolphins-pick-chris-grier-as-their-new-gm.html
It sounds nice. It ain't! (The Waking Up In the Middle of the Night Part) Now, Maui..... that's a different horse!
Personally I believe in BPABN. Which stands for Best Player Available By Need. In other words creating a list of your most needed positions and drafting the BPA at one of those positions. In reality most teams can only cross 1-2 positions off the list in early rounds. Be realistic...if you drafted Peyton Manning and then went 1-15 you wouldnt draft a QB next year even if he was the BPA.
I'm somewhat excited about Grier being named gm. The fact other teams wanted him speaks well for his abilities. Hopefully he knows how to draft an oline
