Phrases like “reckless abandon,” “relentless and determined” and “crazy country boy” appeared in his Chiefs media guide biography. “I love covering kicks,” he said. “That’s something I have to prove I can do. I’m an offensive fullback and even though I was drafted as a linebacker (in the fifth round in ‘05 out of Illinois State) I’m going to have to go out and prove I can cover kicks. He’s eager to get out on the field, run 40 to 50 yards at full speed and hit someone. “I just do what I’m told, ‘Yes sir, no sir,’” he said. “And when I get a chance, go bust some heads.” http://www.palmbeachpost.com/blogs/...he_boo.html?cxntfid=blogs_inside_the_dolphins
Well the initial depth chart has him 2nd string, of course, that can and will change on many positions. I really think the FB position will be a good battle during camp and special teams play will probably determine who is kept and who is released. I don't have a dog in this hunt, just want the best player to win, as well as all the other position battles in camp.
i was laughed at on the other site when i stated that boomer would be taking maui's job. boomer has been very impressive in camp so far..he can play multiple positions,he's working extremely hard to better his st's play, hasn't punched anybody out and(drumroll please)he doesn't need the tacklers to be pre-cut to run through them. now im no expert but i'll say it again...boomer will be starting come season opener ahead of maui.
yet..theres still plenty of preseason and tc left. and as i stated im no expert and my prediction is not "set in stone" but i can see him doing it. i followed him when he was in k.c and herm had a hard time cutting him but it boiled down to a numbers crunch.
grigsby is going to lower the boom squarely into the back of mauia when he boots him to second-string on the roster come regular season.
Reminds me of my wife's cousin, who played linebacker / special teams for BYU in the mid-90's. We were at the UCLA-BYU game last year, and he leaned over to me and said, "Man, what I wouldn't give to cover a kickoff right now." Nothing about suiting up and rushing the QB, or taking on an RB. He was longing for special teams. There are guys with a certain mentality who love special teams. And you love to have them do it - that type of person also seems to excel at it (as my wife's cousin did - he was one of the more popular special teams players BYU has had, because of the way he played - plus the fact he went into the stands after a BYU-Utah game and beat the crap out of a drunk Ute fan who was assaulting his father).
I like Grigsby. He's not afraid to hit you in your mouth. He also brings attitude. I could see him winning the job if Mauia continues to drop passes out of the backfield. There was talk that Mauia might be cut. What I found interesting from Sparano is that he said he may not keep any fullbacks.
I think Boomer Grisby will start for us. I have been hearing a lot of good things about Boomer Grisby. He just is not afraid to go after it and get the job done no matter what it takes. It seems like he has a lot of heart and soul. I would take that any day of the week.
with ronnie and ricky(once ronnie is fully healthy) it was stated that sporano would like to have them both on the field at the same time. either with ronnie at the fullback position or a 2 half-back set. also considering we have a couple t.e's that could line up at the fb position. plus the use of jalen and hillard makes a good point of not keeping any fb's as you said. i just see the coaches falling in favor of boomer enough to keep him around. parcells is high on this type of players attitude and character..thats if he can excell at s.t as well which i believe he has the ability moreso than i couple of the other fb/t.e's we have.
"“And when I get a chance, go bust some heads.” gotta love that attitude in a football player!! Mauia better watch his back, he may find himself unemployed. However I doubt its for long, i bet there would be a lot of teams willing to pick him up.
Not making any predictions, that's what TC is for: for guys who know a heckuvalot more than I do to make those decisions.
