That we are officially in rebuilding mode? I've changed my tune, for the time being regarding Tannehill because I saw him do things last night that he hasn't done all year. Move around in the pocket, evade pressure, create opportunities and play with passion, command and instinct. I think this is something that can be built upon. Not concerned with his accuracy on the move, that will improve as he adjusts to having control over this offense again. Outside of Tannehill and our running game, it seems to me like we need to admit that this team needs a full gut rehab. Our secondary is utter garbage. Grimes is a shell of himself. Outside of Jones, we have no safeties worth a damn. Our LB's are terrible and even Jenkins is mediocre. You can say the same about Misi. Wake will be coming off knee surgery so who knows, and OV is a FA and probably not worth a large contract as he is wildly inconsistent. Our OL, we all know about that and are one hit away from disaster at all times with Albert. Our coaching staff is the worst in the NFL and has been for quite some time. You cannot address all these issues in one offseason. This team needs to start a youth movement on Sunday at San Diego to see what we have. So many holes to plug and such a terrible track record on both sides of the ball. You can only conclude we are in for a heck of a lot more pain than a quick fix.
On offense, I think coaching, better schemes/play-calling and a competent LG cures most of the ills they have. The defense is what needs, and has needed, rebuilding. I think you move forward and build around Suh/Phillips at DT and Reshad Jones. Jenkins is good enough, but Misi and Sheppard both need replacing. Figure out what type of system Suh and Phillips operate best in and build off that. This needs to be a defense-heavy draft class. I think it's pretty clear from last night there are several players Miami has starting that should be off the roster in 2016: Jordan Cameron, Dallas Thomas, Koa Misi, Kelvin Sheppard, Brent Grimes. Miami should probably also move away from guys like Damien Williams, Jason Fox, Jamar Taylor, Michael Thomas, etc.
yeah how you single cover one of the best WR in the league and the only guy on that team that can beat you is just stupid.
Rebuilding mode? More like "Trying again" mode. To be in rebuilding mode, there has to have been something respectable to rebuild.
I think it's safe to say that this franchise is always in rebuilding mode. Hell, this team has been rebuilding since 2004.
It's also safe to say that this has been the most disappointing season in Dolphins history. 2007 was a blessing compared to this utter failure of a team. At least in 07 we had significant injuries and a terrible roster.
This is probably the worst defense we have had since the 2007 season.. Sad.. All of dolphins history has been about defense.
No but you can fill in the key holes in one offseason and that will make other parts better. Forget about drafting a pass rusher this offseason, we need our resources focused on other parts. Bring Wake back, bring Dion Jordan back... bring Grimes back... Draft a high first round MLB, a real leader/playmaker for our defense. Someone like Luke is for the Panthers. Hell id be willing to trade a high draft pick for Bowman if hes available, 49ers are in complete rebuild mode and hes a DMVP candidate when hes at 100% Check free agency for a starting caliber FS. Look at free agency for a guard. You fill those three holes and everyhing else isnt as big anymore.
No question our roster is terrible. The problem is most of us thought we were going to contend this year.
Hate to say it but unless Wake restructures he may be a cap casualty. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I suppose in retrospect no one should have been surprised, seeing as Philbin was still running the ship. Then again, Taylor and Thomas are two of the worst Dolphins players in history, so that's not gonna help matters much.
Well if we cut him im all for bringing in aldon smith here on a team friendly contract/incentive laden. Id bring him in anyways even with Wake.
Agreed. I don't really buy into "rebuilding" honestly. Teams can turn it around any season. Look at the Jets this year. We need SMART moves and better coaching this offseason.
He'll restructure. I really believe that. Probably have incentive based contract where he can earn more money based on production. I think it's more likely Grimes is a cap causality. He's just not worth his money.
That isn't 100% accurate. They bracketed him quite a bit. The coaches tried but it just wasn't sustainable. ODB is flat out amazing.we need more talent on D for sure.
On a national stage Ryan Tannehill showed the country that he can play, the rest of the team can't. People are coming up to me in the office and saying "QB was awesome, defense was terrible" Been that way for a few years now. And the truth is revealed.
Just going by what was coming out of the locker room. Watch the Hyde and Kelly review of the game, where they talk about ODB being single covered the majority of the game.
define he can play. He put the uniform on? HE played better, but there were several throws he missed or ball placement could have been better for easier catches. defense was terrible, bad scheme.
But Tannehill overthrew an open Landry behind the Giants' secondary with his team trailing and less than five minutes to go."Those are the ones you've got to make," Tannehill said.
Tannehill looked really solid last night. That was a beautiful throw to Stills for the TD. Why can't our coaching staff see how much more effective our QB is when he gets to use his legs?? It is not that hard to figure out....For Lamar Miller to only get 12 carries is inexcusable. Inexcusable. I've seen high school coaches call a better game than the Dolphins.
Should be noted the Giants have one of the worst defenses in football. And yet Tannehill averaged an atrocious 5.8 YPA.
The worst passing defense to be exact. I'm not taking anything away from this game or the changes that Taylor and Tannehilll were to have made until after the next couple of games.
I don't think Grimes other half wants to stay in Miami after the embarassing arrest. We know she wears the pants.
I thought Tannehill played his *** off last night. His pocket presence was outstanding and he made things happen with his feet. Sure, he missed that throw to Landry but I thought it was an encouraging night. Honestly, that first half is the kind of offense we should be running all the time. Feed Miller, get the tight ends involved. Get Tannehill moving around and making plays.
Last night was the best game plan they have had for Tannehill. They pushed the ball downfield, they called designed roll outs for him, they called designed runs for him and lord have mercy, they let him audible out of bad plays and one time it actually resulted in a 40+ yard TD pass to Stills! I am still not sure anymore if Thill is or is not the answer for us at Qb, but they need to keep letting him do what they did last night. He looked more comfortable on the field and was even moving around in the pocket to avoid pressure.
So what? Rodgers missed a wide open TD to Cobb and Brady missed a wide open TD to LaFell. It happens every Sunday to every QB. Who cares?
I'm sure there was a mix of coverages. I know when the Giants got near the endzone a couple times they gave Grimes help with Jones. I'm not disagreeing with you, but he was doubled or at least had help on more than just a very few occasions.
I agree almost word for word. I feel like they can get more out of Michael Thomas. It was ugly last night but I would like to see him on the roster next year (not necessarily starting). I think he is making mental mistakes and maybe new defensive coaches can get him more comfortable and confident. Damien Williams is just a **** block for better running back talent. Gillislee would have been my choice. But no need for second guessing at this point...
When Tannehill has been on top of his game, he has top 10 QB talent. If we can get some competent coaching, I think he can be the guy. Miller has pro bowl potential but the coaching staff has no idea how to use him. Look at what Ron Rivera and the Hoodie have been able to pull together out of depleted rosters. Our coaching and lack of depth has been our Achilles heel.
There are so many holes on this team, this is going to be at least a 3 year rebuilding programs before this team is better than 500. Of course it will only be 3 years if the front office and coaching staff do a good job of selecting players who can be contributors for several years to come. The perception that a team can be turned around in one off season just isn't realistic. If it were actually the reality, you wouldn't have so many teams who have been so mediocre or bad for so many years in a row. For every team that seems to come out of nowhere and get into the playoffs in a given year. There are at least 10-12 teams who go into every off season thinking the next year will be better. Only to have a similar or worse record the following year. My view is we are likely looking at 2018 before we can expect this team to get beyond mediocrity.
