i wonder when finsfandan will learn a pass to the outside with no one withing 5 yards of your WR is different than a pass over the middle where you have to look off the safety and throw it over a CB and safety that is slightly out of position bc you looked him off hopefully just enough for them to hopefully be just enough away from your WR to complete the pass.

 

Missed 4th quarter having to catch the train, all I can say - phew

Yeah that was Tannehill's one fantastic moment in the game (he has a small number of those in most games). I'm so happy Parker is showing he might be the WR we hoped he'd be in the draft.

i know Landry is hurt...But Parker sure did show shines of a #1 receiver.

 

I'm hoping we try a pass like that to Parker at least once a game from now on, be it near the endzone or between the 20's, I don't care, just throw him the ball.

I've already said enough about how easy that pass was to Parker.

Think about it this way. Take away that one 47 yard completion and he's got 8 completions for 39 yards despite Miller's and the defense's performance. Parker made the play. Tannehill just had to throw in the general vicinity.

Completely agree. Goes to show how stupid our coaching staff was to limit him. He was nursing an injury but come on. The guy is skilled, big and athletic.

That was a great freaking throw.

50 yards, right where it needed to be.

Yes, Tannehill needs to be more consistent, but we know he can make the throws. Perhaps the oline is affecting him more than people want to admit.

 

cant say for sure but i think i saw two. one audible from a pass play to a run which went for three or four yards off tackle. the other from a run i guess to a pass that went incomplete. i also saw him point out jernigan was going to rush up the gut. the result....no one bothered blocking him at all and tanny got drilled lol

Yeah, maybe because he was a sorry QB. He can only dream of throwing TD passes in the NFL.

Well, Tanne didn't hit him in stride, but it was still a really good throw, especially for Tanne.

 

I still don't see how it was a good throw.

Take a look at the picture in the first few seconds of this video. He was in front of the DB, leaping high in the air, way above the defender to get the ball. He's 6'3" and athletic, that's why we got the TD.

Let's watch the play unfold. Tannehill has plenty of time because they ran a play action and Miller was kicking ***. Parker had plenty of separation, jumped for the ball and fell backwards. That wasn't a great pass. Tannehill just threw it 47 yards in his general vicinity. That was Parker's size and athleticism all the way.

Whether a throw is good or not depends on who you're throwing to. Throwing to Parker, that's a good throw. You can expect a guy like Parker who can get good vertical separation to go up and get the ball with little chance the DB can follow suit.

 

I'm not really disagreeing with most of what your saying, I don't think it was a great throw, but he did put it where the WR could get it, it was a bit late, placement was a bit off but all in all I think it was a good throw, especially from Tanne.

For a lot of QBs in the league, it wasn't a "write to home" throw, but for Tanne it is, but we can agree to disagree on this one, no biggie.

 

That's a fair argument. He could afford to throw the ball that way to Parker. He really just threw it up and had Parker go get it. But that doesn't make it a good throw.

Also, video evidence that Gabbert indeed could've delivered that TD pass to Parker. This was a tougher 71 yarder for the win.

Yeah, this isn't that important an argument, but let me give an operational definition of "good throw" that makes sense: any throw that maximizes or comes close to maximizing the chances of a catch being made.

I mean.. ultimately that's the goal. So as long as the throw does that, to me it's a good throw (doesn't matter if it hits the WR in stride or not, or what else the WR has to do to get it, as long as there is a high probability of a catch given the defense). Also not sure what other definition would make sense since the goal is to get a completion. So by that definition I'd say it was a good throw.. that's what I'm saying.

 

Yes, it met the goal of a completion and a touchdown but there's a scale of how good a throw is. All the way from the OBJ one handed diving backwards catch to the 80 yard bomb that falls in a receiver's breadbasket.

This is in the middle, but the credit mostly goes to the WR. I've already illustrated why. Not complaining at all, just critiquing the throw and breaking it down.

I can't fcking believe what I read in the mains.

The goal on that throw isn't to hit the receiver in stride. Consider who he's throwing to! Tannehill just had to put the ball in a spot where your big receiver has the advantage and he did. The defender had NO shot of getting to that ball the way it was thrown......perfect.

 

Tannehill, really had to put that ball right where he did, Parker is big, and tall, but there's not a huge window there.

The gabbert throw downfield, sure it's deeper, and it's a bomb, but that guy is so wide open Gabbert could have been off either direction by several yards, and there's plenty of time for the WR to adjust. From that angle it's hard to tell whether he had to or not. The pass to Parker, there's really only one spot to put that ball, and it was right where it needed to be for Parker to be the only guy to make a play on that ball.

Opinion, not fact, is the only way to compare the two, so what's the point? Look, both are good throws. End of story really. Do other QB's weekly make each throw, yes. They certainly do. I'm not sure I really see the point in this discussion or what anybody is trying to prove.

However, if what anyone is trying to do, is take away any credit from Tannehill on that TD pass, then, quite frankly, that's absurd. There's plenty of other stuff to rag on the guy for yesterday to discredit that TD pass in ANY way, is just... ridiculous. Is it a play we expect him and parker to be making, absolutely. However, to start comparing it to other throws, discussion it's degree of difficulty or whatever, I mean, we're just being ridiculous now IMHO.

 

I'm not sure what your stance overall is, so all of this post isn't necessarily directed at you.

Of course it was a great throw. Any QB in the NFL can make a great throw. Greatness (or being really good for that matter) is measured by consistency. You are what you consistently do well. Yes, I know deep passes are a lower percentage throw, but how often does Tannehill throw that pass? Almost never.

People can make all the excuses for him that they want and say it's the OL, coaching, gum wrappers on the field, etc. Better QBs make those throws on a consistent basis and have better overall pocket awareness and footwork. Is he supposed to develop all of that next year? Tannehill isn't who we hoped he'd be. It's painfully obvious at this point.

 

Personally I thought it was a good throw and the kind of pass I've been wanting to see more of i.e. putting the ball up there and letting the WR make a play (especially Parker). Unfortunately we scored 1 offensive touchdown all day.

Was simply one play among a sea of futility in the passing game. Single plays like that don't extrapolate to QB greatness. Like Fin-O said, it's a mater of consistency.

 

Lmao, the fact people are being critical of Tannehill on that play shows how little they really understand about the game of football. Too funny.

 

Excuses, excuses, he could have thrown the ball a bit earlier, because he had cleanly beaten his man, and hit him in stride and he could of walked into the EZ, instead of having to put it up for grabs and have him come down in a heap in the EZ.

 

BAHAHAHA, some folks lol. Another great game by Suh, was strong in the run game again too, maybe you should try watching a different sport, you don't really seem to understand this one.

God this is too funny, Tannehill makes a great throw and people still complain. I don't even care anymore, some people just silly and don't get football.
