I'm watching the Seattle/Pitt game trying to get the bad taste out of my mouth.... I think I've seen more gutsy, aggressive win over your team type calls in this one game than I've seen in maybe the last 4-5 years of Dolphins football? I'm not saying Tomlin is a God or anything although he has won a superbowl... He consistently goes for it on 4th down, their team is known for trick plays/fake punts and etc...same with Belicheat especially on the 4th downs.... But when you look back at that 4th down punt vs Dallas...the late season collapses vs bad teams... The timid "play not to lose" type calls that we've all become used to it really just makes me sick and also makes me wonder what could have been had we a real NFL HC combined with some of the fairly talented rosters we've had in the last decade or so....
Not sure that invalidates the point of the thread but ill just reiterate that most of the perennially successful NFL teams all have coaches that are aggressive on 4th down, not afraid to call trick plays and honestly the opposite of what miami does... New england, pitt, seattle, new Orleans of a couple years ago, hell I could even throw in the old rex ryan Jets ( 2 straight Afc championship games, something miami fans cant even fathom atm)... How in the hell we kept philbin around for so long is a mystery to me, he literally subtracted from the team instead of being an asset like a real HC should be.
On 4th and 1 at the 50yd line we are punting 99% of the time. Bellicheat and tomlin are going for it 99% of the time and converting most of them rather easily with simple QB sneaks. that's the mentality we need to adopt....
Again you're just picking out 1 single point and focusing on it like it means everything, that's not the way I prefer to discuss things, thanks for the reply though good day.
It's on Stephen Loss, for not firing Philbin sooner as most fans agreed he should have been fired after last seasons collapse. But we can't fire Stephen Loss, so we'll just have to get used to it. Hope a great coach falls into our lap and that Tannebaum actually has some good drafts.
