It's going to change every single day.'' "The quarterback race was done by seniority,'' he said. http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/football/pro/dolphins/sfl-dolqb080408,0,5681203.story
Roth's presence in this depth chart deserves some attention. There were many on here that were convinced Roth would never fit in the 3-4 and some even mentioned he'd be cut or traded before TC even began. I still think he's going to turn into a solid player.
I bet we stay in a primary 3-4 though. We seem to practice it primarily and are eventually going to play it always so why not start out that way now.
only two things that surprise me: Mauia being ahead of Grigsby and Ernest Wilford being the #1 2nd WR. given the performances in camp thus far, you think those two things would be addressed.
RG: Trey Darilek, Donald Thomas, From all the camp reports i think Thomas is breathing down his neck......
This is only a preliminary depth chart, don't read too much into it. It was released today because of NFL rules.
As I read it, its Ginn, Wilfy then Hagan right? I know, prelim and all that, but that's how it stands
I'm surprised that there are only 77 names on this Depth Chart. I thought we had 78 players in camp right now?
I am a little surprised as well but this is a very early depth chart and was only released because of NFL rules. I will say I'm glad to see Jason Allen starting because he showed he could be a good player and will intercept a pass when given the chance. Roth is starting which is a nice surprise I hope he works out and the 3-4 will likely be the base defense this season.
I dont see that. Look at Roth, Jason Allen, Ted Ginn, Jake Long just to name a few. Sparano only mentioned that the QB position was based on seniority.
man we're paper thin at OT. and my gut is kind of telling me that Beck is the starter. he started the scrimmage, so to speak. i think he'll end up starting the 1st preseason game too. not saying he will start come Sept. I do think they want to give him a fair shake.
Here's my top 50, leaving room for 3 bubble players, and obviously some PS guys. OFFENSE DEFENSE SPECIALISTS
I am 100% amazed that anyone here, or anywhere else for that matter, is giving weight to this chart and the rank/position/string someone is placed. The coach said it himself "its something we HAD to produce". None of this is material. Consider it a pseudo chart.
The reason Renaldo Hill is the third Free Safety is because he is coming off an ACL tear and he just started practicing again.
I dissagee slightly. I think what the coach meant is that nothing is set in stone and that changes will be made. He didnt want to give the impression to his players that they've earned anything. There is still work to be done and improvements to be made. Now if Joey Porter, Will Allen, and Ronnie Brown were at the bottom of the chart at their respective positions Id agree with you whole heartedly.
If your going by that logic then Yeremiah Bell shouldn't be listed as a starter on the depth chart who tore his Achilles last season and the same for Ronnie.
Like he said, they 'had' to put it out there. I think it's safe to say Thomas is the starting RG now.
Really? I thought Hill was participating I remember reading an article stating Hill was a favorite to start at one of the safety positions and looking good after his surgery. Makes sense he has been absent from the TC reports. You know how the saying goes "Out of sight out of mind"
Rotoworld.com reported that he just started participating. EDIT: Dolphins DBs Renaldo Hill (ACL surgery) and Michael Lehan (ankle) have been practicing at training camp. Hill is running with the third-team defense and seems unlikely to be on the final roster. Andre Goodman and Will Allen appear locked in as Miami's starting corners, leaving Lehan to battle Travis Daniels for nickel work. Your right. I apologize.
i like Hill. he is a fierce competitor. i hope someone picks him up if he gets cut. just not in our division.
I was wondering if Derelik had the position locked in the first few days? I was surprised to see him move to T on 2nd team... Sparano wants them all to learn the positions though? Maybe he was that good? Hill will get bumped up if healthy, he has been a playmaker when he's not hurt just like Bell except not as effectively. Maui may just be the better blocker? I'm not expecting too much from that position especially considering Fasano is a great H-Back... RONNIE is gonna be a beast this year, nevermind that knee...
At this point I wouldn't care if it was McCown, Beck, or Henne. I would really like it if one of them had a "lights coming on moment" and separate himself from the rest. I have no lies to tell, I would love Beck to win, its who I am pulling for, however, I would just like one of them start getting it and start showing us something from the QB position. I know its early and the offense takes time. Just so hard to be patient when it comes to the PHINS.
No way Poppinga is top 50, especially over a solid STer like Miles, and Keith Davis is a 100% lock IMO to make this team.
Starting McCown would be a mistake with two unknown second round picks sitting on the bench. Obviously Bill Parcells isn't too fond of John Beck, which is why he drafted Chad Henne, but lets see more than what? Five? Six games? Before we the fans make an opinion on a player. IMO, Beck should be given the starting job and if by the Miami Bye Week he isn't playing as expected he should be lifted for Henne. McCown shouldn't be in Miami for anything more than a tutor to the young guys and a veteran insurance policy.
I can't see where Parcells is not fond of Beck. He was obviously not fond of Cleo Lemon and where is he now? It would seem more obvious that Parcells wants to motivate the younger QBs to practice and play hard and make them earn the position. McCown is the veteran presence in the camp and is listed as 1st on the depth because of that but that is JMO. On another note, when was the last time a Dolphin offensive line averaged 25 years of age? If this line comes together they will be playing together for a long time.
