Canes beat Butler by 10. Closer than any of their previous games but they still look good and Butler is a solid team too. The rest of the non-conference schedule isn't all that interesting outside the UF game. They aren't that good but at least Miami gets to play them in one major sport outside baseball .
Miami is 5-0 with 2 wins over ranked teams already. They'll be ranked in the next rankings, the only question is how high?
I'm still holding out hope for this one. It would almost certainly be the best hire they could make: http://espn.go.com/ncf/story/_/id/14204487/good-possibility-lsu-tigers-buy-les-miles-contract-source
Only if he brings his recruits with him - I'm not sure i like him as a coach, but you cant deny his ability to recruit.
I don't know. He may have never taken LSU quite over the top, but they win every year in the SEC. He's no Saban or Meyer, but I think he's probably still a pretty good coach.
And why they would be so quick to fire Les to hire an even bigger underachiever in Jimbo makes no sense to me Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
It's almost certainly a pipe dream, but Chip Kelly might be about to shake free. I told someone this would happen last offseason, but I honestly don't see how Miami comes up with enough money. If they somehow did, you could almost guarantee a dynasty. South Florida's speed in that system? Look out!
Albert Breer @AlbertBreer Wow ... Big job opening. RT @LSUBeatTweet: Les Miles told the LSU Gridiron Club booster group on Friday that Saturday will be his last game.
Yep, Miles, Chip, openings: Lsu, USC, Miami - Big football schools, Certainly a interesting offseason awaits,
It's nice to see that some coaches that took big schools to big Bowl games will be available this offseason.
According to ESPN, Georgia Bulldogs coach Mark Richt is being let go. He played college football at Miami. He was the backup qb to Jim Kelly.
I've said he would be one of my top targets, if available. Anyone hear anything about the Butch Davis rumors yesterday? There was talk that he was on campus interviewing, and that he's the favorite.
Thanks. The interview is confirmed, though? Hopefully it's not just to save face for fans and former players. My realistic preference right now would be: 1. Butch Davis 2. Mark Richt 3. Dan Mullen 4. Tom Herman 5. Greg Schiano
Barry Jackson @flasportsbuzz 25s26 seconds ago UM interviewing Richt today, reports @PeterAriz. So Richt, Butch, Schiano, potentially Mullen etc.in play, and UM hasn't ruled out Strong
Mullen just finished interviewing - So we have Butch, Mullen and Richt with an interview - Schiano next - I wouldnt mond Mullen - but can he recruit here. I do NOT want Richt or Schiano - Butch and Mullen are my top two in that order.
Just hire Butch and call it a day. He's the perfect guy to bring back the elite talent and toughen up this soft *** team. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Brody Logan @BrodyLogan I don't know who it is, but I'm told a decision has been made for the Canes head coaching job. 11:02 AM - 1 Dec 2015 116 116 Retweets 55 55 likes he's an alum - no idea who he is, but just like everyone "knew" we signed chucky, im sure this guy "knows" something too. Miami media is saying Butch is the front runner, national media says it's Richt, but that Richt has other suitors. I would be very unhappy with Richt. Tons of Hurricane football Alumnus are calling Brady James to tell him, they want Butch. I've heard that Hurricane Boosters want Butch, too. the resume Butch Davis brought with him to the interview, yesterday....lol
I think that's the guy that broke Fuente to VT so may be reliable Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
I'd be very happy with Richt. I don't get the hate for him. If it's Butch, Richt, or Mullen we will be in very good shape IMO. All three will recruit well, all three will probably hire a good staff, and all three can coach.
I'll say this, there was a report that Miami was willing to spend as much as $4 million per season on their coach. To me, that means they're going after someone other than Butch. You can have Butch for probably less than half of that.
Yes, in a nutshell, yes. Also, Schiano declined the UCF job because "he felt good about his Miami chances." This would not make be happy. Also Bruce Feldman has sources saying it's Richt and that QB recruit Jacob Eason is coming with him, as is Richt's DC Pruitt.
I wouldn't hate Schiano in a vacuum, but with the other names being mentioned I'd be pretty disappointed if it were him. I'd be happy if Bruce Feldman were right, but it's interesting because Jack Allison is already on board and is set to get on campus this spring. It would be nice for him to poach some players from UGA's class, though. They currently have the 7th ranked class including a 4 star DT that Miami could definitely use.
Not for nothing mark Richt is an alumni and was in the building today. Richt or Butch would be my top 2 choices. Richt will at least make relevant again and win games even if it may not be the biggest game....Butch can recruit like no one's business and we know what he can do. I'm ok either way.
I'm not sure I'd want Mullen over Richt. Mullen is a hot name right now but we know what Richt can do as far as keeping a relatively clean winning program for a decade and a half. And not for nothing Richt's players and former players love him. Guys like DJ Shockley were genuinely upset at his firing and basically said that they weren't sure they would even watch games next year. His constituents like Nick saban were genuinely upset at his firing. A lot of his former players credit him with teaching them how to be men, how to conduct themselves and how to basically make use of their education. I like to win but winning with a coach who teaches his players about life and will have good people there is important too. Butch or Richt.
I think Richt is probably the safest pick they can make and probably has as much upside as any of the others. We know he's going to recruit really well and he won at least 10 games 9 of his 14 seasons at Georgia. I think Mullen might be the highest risk/highest reward. Butch is probably somewhere in between. I really don't know that you can go wrong with any of the three, though.
There is no disputing that Richt is a decent nice guy with christian values and that he would improve the UM image .There wont be any players revolts that for sure .He is a likeable coach. The problem, is that he is not a terribly bright coach and he has difficulty adjusting in game situations .Cane fans will get frustrated especially in big games where the other teams have smarter coaches. .He usually beats you when he has better talent than the other team not because he outsmarted anyone so if he is able to recruit the top level South Florida Players that might be good enough. However I am not sure that his recruting Nebraska farm boy style which was succesful in recruiting in the South , will translate well to South Florida recruiting .He definitely is not hip.
The Georgia Bulldogs have 7 players from South Florida on their roster. Besides, this is what recruiting coordinators are for. That said, I really wish UM would make a push for Chip Kelly. They talked about Jim Tressel for crying out loud. If you're thinking of calling Jim Tressel, you can contact Chip Kelly's agent.
Richt is from South Florida. He may not be a guy from the inner city, but it doesn't seem like he has any problems relating to kids as he continually has great classes. Bobby Bowden was one of the biggest Podunk rednecks you could find, yet kids loved him. Chip Kelly would be the best possible hire, but I just don't think Miami is in a position to wait him out unless they are really comfortable with ending up with Butch Davis, which doesn't seem to be the case. Chip recently told his players he would coach them as long as he's allowed to, so he's not stepping down any time soon. He'll probably be let go in the offseason, but most of the good college coaches will be settled in by then. And if he ends up staying in Philly somehow, then you're in a really bad spot.
