    The Blueprint

65-89. Man, we really are the #lostdecade. Is it time, yet again, to press the reset button?

    Let’s pretend it is.

First thing is first, let’s find a head coach. An alpha dog. A vet. A proven winner. Someone who isn’t afraid to cry during Toy Story 3. Hue Jackson it is!

Next, it’s time to decide which of our pending free agents we’re keeping, and which we’re kicking to the curb.

    The Kicked:
    · Matt Moore, QB
    · Rishard Matthews, WR
    · Jake Stoneburner, TE
    · Brandon Williams, TE
    · Ulrick John, T
    · Jeff Linkenbach, G/T
    · Derrick Shelby, DE
    · C.J. Mosley, DT
    · Kelvin Sheppard, LB
    · Spencer Paysinger, LB
    · James-Michael Johnson, LB
    · Mike Hull, LB
    · Zackary Bowman, CB
    · Louis Delmas, S
    · Michael Thomas, S

    The Kept:
    · Lamar Miller, RB
    · Matt Hazel, WR
    · Olivier Vernon, DE
    · Jordan Kovacs, S

Alright, that was painful. Matthews is having a breakout year, but his diva-persona isn’t going to bode well for our wallet. Man wants to be PAID, and with Parker waiting in the wings, it isn’t a smart financial move. Matthews is good, but he’s replaceable. Moving on.

Let’s make some cuts. This might sting, but the cap situation is so dire and some of these players just aren’t living up to their price tag. Others, well, we’d just like to see out of a Dolphins uniform.

    The Cut:
    · Damien Williams, RB
    · Greg Jennings, WR
    · Jordan Cameron, TE
    · Jason Fox, T
    · Dallas Thomas, G
    · John Denney, LS
    · Cameron Wake, DE
    · Dion Jordan, DE
    · Earl Mitchell, DT
    · Koa Misi, LB
    · Jamar Taylor, CB
    · Brice McCain, CB
    · Walt Aikens, S

Recap: Williams sucks, Jennings sucks, Cameron sucks, Fox sucks, Thomas sucks, Denney is old, Wake is expensive, Jordan is senile, Mitchell is brain-dead, Misi is mediocre (misiocre?), Taylor sucks HARD, McCain is toast, Aikens is a bust. Whew. Now that that’s over, let’s take a gander at our free agency haul.

    The Signed:
    · Case Keenum, QB (STL)
    · Jordan Todman, RB (PIT)
    · Mohamed Sanu, WR (CIN)
    · Ricardo Lockette, WR (SEA)
    · James Hanna, TE (DAL)
    · Jah Reid, T (KC)
    · George Selvie, DE (NYG)
    · Demarcus Dobbs, DE (SEA)
    · Tyrunn Walker, DT (DET)
    · Vincent Rey, LB (CIN)
    · Nigel Bradham, LB (BUF)
    · Prince Amukamara, CB (NYG)
    · Tracy Porter, CB (CHI)
    · Jaiquawn Jarrett, FS (NYJ)

Solid. No huge splashes – just filled a lot of holes.
Keenum is a quality, cheap backup.
Todman is a young back with experience as a returner (as opposed to our beloved Damien).
Sanu will be welcomed in Miami if Hue Jackson is in fact the head coach, and a Sanu-Parker duo with Landry working the slot could be devastating.
Lockette is a good value pickup, providing that “been there” mentality and a good punt return game.
Hanna spent his career as Jason Witten’s understudy; he’s ready for a chance, and he’s cheap. Plus, **** the Cowboys.
Jah Reid is a large man. We need that on our line.
George Selvie is a homegrown talent that we let get away. He’s smart, a proven vet, and he’ll provide a spark off the bench to our defensive rotation.
Dobbs is a virtual replica of Terrence Fede, but hell, why not? The more depth, the merrier.
Walker is a physical specimen who has been held back by the circus that is the Detroit Lions, but he was at his best with Suh alongside. He, too, will provide a spark in the defensive rotation.
Rey is a versatile three-down linebacker capable of playing in the middle and on the weakside. He won’t be cheap, but a short-term deal should suffice.
Bradham is cool and all, but this move is really about stealing someone from the Bills’ roster. I’m ****ing sick of our divisional rivals stealing our ****ty players and turning them into functional members of society! Those bastards. Whatever, Bradham can start at WLB and provide an upgrade over the departed Misi.
Amukamara is the golden duck in this haul. New York doesn’t want him, but we sure as hell do. This move will prolong Grimes’ career, allowing him to move to CB2.
Porter is a middling vet, but he provides a boost on ST.
Jarrett is a stud when he’s healthy. And he’s from the Jets. YEAH, **** THEM!

“Wait,” you interject. “What about trades?” Hey, what a GOOD idea. Let’s make some.

    The Traded:
    · Ryan Tannehill to Houston Texans for Brandon Brooks, ’15 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] round pick
    · ’15 1[SUP]st[/SUP] round pick to Indianapolis Colts for ’15 1[SUP]st[/SUP] round pick, 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] round pick (draft-day deal)

… Was that really a good idea? I blame you. Let’s ignore the fact that I just traded RT. There are dozens of other threads for that.

Draft Day! No, shut up, not the movie. Kevin Costner has HIV.

    The Drafted:
1: Christian Hackenberg, QB, Penn State
    2: Kendell Beckwith, LB, LSU
2: Carl Nassib, DE, Penn State
    3: Kyle Murphy, OT, Stanford
    3: Spencer Drango, G, Baylor
4: Glenn Gronkowski, FB, Kansas State
    5: Tracy Howard, CB, Miami
6: Darion Griswold, TE, Arkansas State
7: Taysom Hill, QB, Brigham Young
    7: Sioasi Aiono, C, Utah

Hackenberg has been held back by the lack of talent around him and a spread offense that just doesn’t suit him. He’s a gifted, pro-style QB, and his ceiling is enormous. If Miami wants to compete with Tom Brady, this is the guy to do it with.
Beckwith is a quick-twitch, self-driven player with lots of upside. He doesn't miss many tackles and he’ll provide that *thump* for our defense.
Nassib is a ridiculously talented speed rusher, much like Cam Wake, and he’s leading the nation in sacks right now. Only concern is how his game will translate to the NFL, and, well, he’s white. A white DE. Yeah…
Murphy is a sound run blocker who shows over and over how capable he is of moving the pile. He IS better than Jonathan Martin, I promise.
Drango is versatile. He can push Ja’Waun James at RT or lock down either of the guard positions.
Gronkowski is the younger brother of Rob. That is all.
Howard’s biggest indictment is his lack of productivity. However, he consistently (CONSISTENTLY) displays good ball skills and athleticism. He could develop into a starter.
Griswold is a physically imposing (not in the Bill Cosby way) TE from a small school. He's a risk, but he might pan out.
Hill will probably return to school after his season-ending injury. But, if he doesn’t, he could be had in the late rounds or in free agency. Two QB’s are better than one, right?
Aiono is somewhat recluse, but as an offensive lineman it's sometimes better to go unnoticed. I don't know much about him, but his name sounds like someone Miami would draft; Alabi, Aromashodu, Maui’a, Soliai, Satele, etc… Why not throw Aiono in there too? I just can’t believe we aren’t grooming a center under Mike Pouncey. Makes him and his ludicrous contract a bit more expendable.

And, behold: the final 53-man roster that will never happen...

Heh, you cant tell people to ignore the whole trading tannehill thing. Its the most ridiculous part of the post. For one, why would we trade him? Two, who would take his cap hit next year (it's like 17mil). We are not trading tannehill. He's not going anywhere at least until 2017.

Grimes and prince at CB is a disaster waiting to happen. If we got 5 total games of both of them starting I'd be shocked.

I'm sorry, I can't look past the part where you waste our most valuable pick on the qb position. Tannehill hasn't done anything to merit straight up dropping him.

TRuth is I like the rest of it. Don't trade tannehill, Take a top flight CB or S or LB with that first rounder and that'd be a much better team

Tanne is untradable with his current contract, at least in regards to getting anything in return, because what can you get for what will be a 1 year experiment, he's affordable next year but after that his salary jumps way up.

No team is going to give up anything significant just to see if Tanne can fit their system on a 1 year trial.

I'm pretty sure there are dead people with better football instincts than Christian Hackenberg. He's a 6th or 7th round project at best who needs a decent overhaul in his mechanics and delivery and maybe then he can hit the broad side of a barn. People complain about Tannehills deep ball....multiply that x 3 on short and intermediate passes.

No problem with a rebuild and scraping things but no way am I ok moving forward with Hackeysack.

As I've said many times I suspect there are several teams who would be willing to take on Tannehill's contract in order to get a upgrade at QB. I bet Houston or Cleveland or even KC wouldn't mind having Tannehill.

Why trade him? Cause we've evaluated him for 4 years... Determination: Mediocre, limited throwing range among other things. I'd prefer to hit the reset button at QB if we get a deal out of out. One of those other teams can take the mediocre QB. I'll roll the dice a chance to find the next elite QB.

I hope your dream becomes reality bud. That would be a ballsy but smart decision in my opinion. If we get a 2nd.

I'd like us to keep Shelby (should be reasonable) OV, and Lamar. That keeps our dline in tact and solid, while also solidifying the HB position. Matthews is obviously replaceable, so outside of these 3 I'm kinda indifferent. Coples definitely makes things interesting though, don't know what our plans are for him but I know he's talented and is gonna push OV/Shelby.

Yea, Hackenburg has a deep ball and that's about it (I am a PSU fan). He has arm talent, no doubt, and some athleticism, but he's not nearly as good as Tannehill now, and I see him struggling to get where Tannehill is based on what he has shown so far. He needs to not enter the draft this year, and work on his mechanics if he wants to be successful in the NFL.

Sure if SF throws in 2 1sts and Navarro Bowman. You know since we will need a new QB and all.

Kaepernick was never a good qb. Roman and Harbaugh made him look passable at times. He wasn't even as good as Smith. Rather take my chances we can get an OC or HC to help RT17.

I agree. Hackenberg barely completes 50% of his passes at the college level. He plays bad against the better defenses and very average against the mediocre defenses.

I am no Tannehill fan, but Hackenberg is certainly no upgrade over Tannehill. I don't see Hackenberg ever being a starting QB in the NFL. Perhaps he will be a backup for a few years and then slowly drift off into the sunset.

If the Dolphins are looking to find a replacement for Moore after this season and Hackenberg is still available in the 7th round, he might be worth a pick there. I certainly wouldn't waste a higher pick on a QB who just isn't going to be productive at the NFL level.

Because of his contract, Tannehill will be the starter in 2016. I suspect they will be looking to move on from him beginning in 2017. I have no idea who they will find to replace him with, but I certainly hope it isn't Hackenberg.

Why would the Chiefs want Tannehill? They already have a Tannehill in Smith. They are both merely game managers and in that regard, Smith is actually better than Tannehill.

In fact I would be happy to trade Tannehill to KC for Smith.

is smith better than thill bc when he isn't perfect he has enough team around him to still win, or is smith better than thill because the chiefs actually run the ball or is smith better than thill bc his offensive coordinator plays to his strengths....

if you think smith would do any better in miami than thill, pls pass the crack pipe.

For anyone who points to our OL as to why Ryan struggles then careful you do not contradict yourself because he is sporting the worst OL in the Big Ten hands down. Like Ryan, Hack isn't the kind of QB who can operate without a clean pocket.

I would honestly be looking to draft a mobile QB in the mid rounds and let him sit until 17 when Ryan is likely gone anyways.

Biggest difference in the play of Tanny and Alex is the ability to tuck and run. Ive been actually impressed with Alex's play this season....he keeps drives alive and is capable of making plays when nothing is there.

My personal rankings of Qbs for 2015 has Alex Smith better than a lot of Qbs then I originally thought.

Worth watching is Chicago, Adam Gase is hot coordinator will get a job. Hes got Jay Cutler playing like a real NFL QB. Speaking of Cutler hes due one helluva salary increase per his contract. Doubtful Chicago will pay him.

Hire Adam Gase and bring in Cutler after the Bear cut him? Unload THill for whatever we can get?

No one is arguing that Hackenberg can take the reins of a franchise in the same fashion that Andrew Luck did for the Colts in 2012. He isn't pro-ready. If that were the case, he would be a top-five lock. Clearly, that is not that case, as Hackenberg could be had as late as the end of the 2nd round, barring injury. Rather, he is a project quarterback with perhaps the highest ceiling since Cam Newton. He has a very special arm talent that cannot be found anywhere else in the college landscape right now. He routinely makes beautiful throws that end up dropped by his receivers and is forced into way too many passing downs by his porous running game, all while working behind the worst offensive line in Penn State history. And, of note, he is on the field more than any other quarterback in college football, thanks to his elementary defense. No doubt, he needs to improve various aspects of his game - but what quarterback doesn't? This is about taking a chance on a high-potential field general rather than settling for a middling game manager.

And, honestly, if you're unhappy with RT and especially unhappy with the prospect in Hackenberg, take a look at the rest of the class. Paxton Lynch, Jared Goff, Connor Cook, Carson Wentz, Cardale Jones, Dak Prescott, and possibly Baker Mayfield, just to name a few. Take your pick, but none of those guys (sans Mayfield) will ever develop into anything more than what Ryan Tannehill is.

Besides, this was only for fun. Calm down, this isn't Fight Club.

Porous running game? Barkley is one of the best young backs in the country and has provided Penn State with a good running game. Drops are not really a huge issue either (too suggest they routinely drop "beautiful" passes is laughable), if anything the problem with the WRs it is simply failure to get open. The OL is terrible at pass blocking, but Hackenburg does share some blame as he doesn't often throw it away.

What Hackenburg does routinely do with all his arm talent is blows easy throws within ten yards of the LOS, by either sailing them over guys heads or at thier feet.

Ad hominem incoming: what's "laughable" is your inability to understand the structure of my argument.

Anyhow, I'll reiterate. The assertion that "[Hackenberg] routinely makes beautiful throws that end up dropped by his receivers..." suggests that Hackenberg does, in fact, routinely make beautiful throws. This is not debatable. Empirical evidence provides sufficient foundation for that claim. Now, what the aforementioned assertion does not suggest is that his receivers routinely drop beautiful passes, or, as you put it, "too suggest [the receivers] routinely drop "beautiful" passes is laughable". My original point is not that receivers drop beautiful passes in routine, but that Hackenberg makes beautiful passes in routine. If he did not do this, he would not be considered a top-5 quarterback prospect by ESPN, CBSSports, Bleacher Report, DraftTek, SB Nation, Ourlads, Spin Zone, Fox Sports, Yahoo Sports, Sports Illustrated, and Walter Football.

As for the other half of your argument (not considering your final sentence - that was more stupid than I can handle), Saquon Barkley IS a quality young back, and he HAS provided Penn State with a sound running game. These things I have not contradicted. Just don't be so quick to overlook the fact that he has missed almost 1/3 of their games this season. What remains is that Penn State has accumulated just 1,609 rushing yards this season - good for 85th in the nation - and not good enough for a team in the Big 10.
