im not a RT17 apologist, and im not making excuses for his poor play, this is not a QB thread...

i want to see him do well, "thats my QB" (sobs)

to me RT17 is a mix between A. Rogers and R. Leaf... like most qb's in the league RT17 falls somewhere in between...

it is my opinion that jordan cameron need to be the #1 wr and lined up wide on the strong side, juice in the slot and the weak side wr needs to be a rotation until we find some consistency.. matthews has been there but make no mistake about it he is a career back up..

stills has been real inconstant and im not even gonna mention parker, i will evaluate that pick next season...

cameron cant block for squat and he has his share of drops but he needs to be targeted more, like #1 option more..
getting him involved could really open up our run game and the underneath stuff..

the problem is all these guys are playing well below their potential from route running to creating yards after the catch...

have they giving up on RT17?

these guys have to step it up and catch everything that hits their hands, they have to run crisp routes and get open because RT17 is not throwing anyone open... it up to these guys to recognize blitzes as well an break off routes...

it seems this team has far more problem in the pass game other than RT17 and the oline...

good players make other avg players look good, and we have some good players on this team....

    is inconstant like constipated?
I disagree that the issue is on the WRs. Our two biggest problems are Oline that is too porous on obvious passing downs (3rd and long) and offensive scheme that relies too much on the pass which allows opposing defenses to focus on shutting down the passing game more easily.

its why we should draft two offensive linemen and get two in free agency. fix the line once and for all. you do that you get two tight ends in return. Right now Cameron and Sims are being held out of patterns quite frequently to help with pass protection. you want cameron running down the seam catching passes? get us some linemen

The OLine sucks, that is why the TE's are now blockers, RB,s are blockers and R-Tan sucks

Sounds like a plan. Problem being it's similar to the plan we've had every year since 2008-2009

which shows you why GM is the most important position on a football team. Get that right and the rest of the team will follow

We've spent resources on it. It's just never the right choices. Signing Greg Jennings and NOT offering Mathis top dollar was a colossal mistake.

Look, saying "we've spent plenty of resources and the line is still bad" isn't a reason to not spend the resources now. Albert is a perfect example. When healthy, he's great. Problem is, he's rarely healthy. Our oline woes have begun the last two seasons when Albert went down. Then we have to start shuffling players, and we really have zero depth. So, I don't care how much we've spent, we haven't made good choices. We need to spend resources AND make good picks.

The game starts upfront. You can have below average pass blocking if your run blocking is exceptional, and vice versa. You can't just be below average at both.

Since R-Tan is so intelligent, by the time it's gotten right, he can be a coach like Campbell?

We talk about young QBs and how raw he was coming into the the NFL but he's 27 already. Behind this line combined with his lack of awareness in the pocket he's gonna get killed.

You mean inconsistent? The only WR I'd say has been inconsistent is Stills. He's dropped some would be big gainers. Last week thill threw a beautiful 50 yarder that he dropped. I agree 100% with getting Cameron the ball more. He's our biggest mismatch on offense and his lack of production has more to do with the limited targets imo. He was consistently getting open down the seams early in the season and we seem to have abandoned that. I wouldn't say he's any worse than Clay was as a blocker. Mathews has been our best boundary WR this year, not sure why you still consider him a backup. He's been our most dangerous yac guy all year. We need to target Matthews and Cameron more downfield. The 15-25 yard throws and mix in at least 2 deep passes to Still or Parker. Preferably Parker who will make those tough catches. Stop with the shotgun pitch runs and quick outs to Landry that seem to kill drives and let Thill make some plays. Use more 2te and run Ajayi/Miller up tge gut. We can't afford negative plays with our dink n dunk mentality.

Over 70% of Tannehill's yards on the season are after the catch....we lead the league in "after the catch" for 1st downs, total yards, and TD's. So for a non-quarterback thread, this sure does feel like yet another QB thread.

One other thing though; you didn't even mention Miller...which is Tannehill's favorite target. So if we're going to talk receivers, let's at least talk about the people he's throwing the ball to the most. (Miller, Landry, Matthews) And the Matthews comment....I don't even know what to do with that. Regardless of how good/bad he may be, the guy has been solid all year and makes Tannehill look good consistently. I'm not sure how you put someone like that on the bench in favor of a tight end that Tannehill seems to have very little chemistry with. No logic in that idea at all.

    Helpful and informative, as usual.

Back on topic, the only inconsistency from the WRs I feel is coming from Stills and Jennings...and they're new to the team/system...so you can expect at least a little bump there. As for Matthews and Landry, they seem very consistent, and high quality in production. I guess I don't understand how you figure Matthews shouldn't be on the field...he's been a soldier. He's earned the right not to be anybody's back-up IMO.
