No, I don't even like him much tbh. I'm just saying it seems pretty unlikely and difficult for us to get Wade to take a huge paycut AND to trade away McRoberts. His pay may seem high for the salary cap now or in years past but maybe it would be easy to unload considering the future salary cap. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I don't care about McRoberts... I'm saying it seems difficult to get Wade to accept such a low salary that it allows us to sign Whiteside AND Durant AND to unload McRoberts' contract. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Dragic, Wade, Durant, Bosh, Whiteside is doable but would require Wade taking a MASSIVE paycut and trading away McRoberts and whoever else is not near the vet minimum. I say we roll with Dragic, Wade, Winslow, Bosh, Whiteside, bolster our bench and pay Wade closer to his worth. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Word is the Chalmers to Memphis deal isn't officially done yet because Heat are trying to work out a trade of Beno Udrih and/or the Stokes guy to a third team. I think they're really trying to get Birdman off the books.
Nice having Heat insiders. I agree, the Heat are trying to unload guys over the vet minimum that aren't big impact players. That means Birdman, McRoberts, guys like that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
My mind starts to fry when I think about how to apportion the salary. Wade is a HOF lifer Whiteside is an ascending superstar we developed Bosh is an aging all star who is a core member now Durant is a top 3 player in the league in his prime. Who gets what?
After having watched both of them play a little bit would it be way off base of me to suggest that Jarnell Stokes may be the more valuable of the two acquisitions? I know Beno is a veteran and that's worth something but still.
Watch any/all of this series of videos from Jarnell Stokes time in the D-League earlier this year and tell me you're not seriously impressed. I know they're highlight videos, but still. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=709t_TgY8zM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMymn2t_rXk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ByC22hRqtOg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6tLuu14SyQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aF4xjSYGwUg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlPFJS1HG5A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BplogE0M6-0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FkipNEqcxJw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LpBDxDKXEUA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o2UftbKf6Ds https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVomTAC4F58 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-ruWSmbdOc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQHhVORD3uU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8AcjwwraiYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7pm3FMEjSg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IAm-tZEJ698
McRoberts deal is too nice though to just send him away for an expiring. We can get draft picks with that contract.
Eh, I don't think his contract is very good. Plus I don't think teams are going to want to enable us to make such big moves this time around. Thoughts, guys? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Ah. There it is. Steve Kyler says the Miami Heat were "extremely" high on Jarnell Stokes in the 2014 NBA Draft and strongly considered taking him at pick #26. Little tie-in with the buyer's remorse on Shabazz. I could see why they're high on Stokes though.
Here's a good one. Do yourself a favor and just fast-forward to 38 seconds. Look for the dude with the yellow headband. https://youtu.be/89-l6SlGds4?t=38
Here's his DraftXpress profile coming out of Tennessee: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OvyXi58BWWQ Was the #1 rebounder in the DX Top 100 at 13.5 per 40 minutes. Also the best offensive rebounder in the draft at 5.4 per 40 minutes.
Could it be that the Heat are thinking of trading McBob in order to get under the luxury tax, instead of Birdman?
I really hope not. That would be a mistake unless you KNOW you're getting Durant next year. McRoberts is a rare player who's on a reasonable deal and fits this team very well.
I'm going to guess they like Stokes. He seems like their kind of player. I'm thinking the Grizzlies are sitting here watching the James Ennis highlights while we're watching the Jarnell Stokes highlights, and they're thinking they may have something they can really develop in Ennis. I wouldn't blame them, we've all thought much the same for the last few years. To us, his total lack of handle is a problem he'll not get over, as is his lack of defense. Watching a lot of Jarnell Stokes I would say they have to be thinking his being a tweener, lack of defensive awareness, and untested shooting ability just don't make him all that valuable to them. But the Heat love guys with a lot of physical strength, I think...and they love guys that have Stokes' intangibles. He's a premium offensive rebounder and a good defensive rebounder. Hellishly strong and gets into position easily. I love his variety in finishing under the basket. Left hand, right hand, spin, fakes, etc...just very quick, controlled and decisive that way with really quick and good hands. Good standing jump ability and can easily dunk from right under the rim with no gather, even though he's "only" 6'8.5". Runs the floor and really doesn't look like a big. He looks like LeBron actually. The thing that surprises me watching him is his vision and passing skills on offense, which are avenues for further exploration. It's hard to know what to make of his mid-range jumper. He's become a 70% free throw shooter. This chart doesn't necessarily look great: http://stats.nbadleague.com/playerShotchart.html?PlayerID=203950 Then again, 9 of 27 (33%) out of the paint but still within 2 point range...I mean that's what LeBron James was in 2014-15, basically. http://vorped.com/1-nba/2014-2015/player/837/lebron-james/shotchart/
I was a fan of McBob when they signed him but I don't know that I call him a "rare" player. First off he's just been an injury nightmare for them. Second whenever I see him on the floor I can't help but think he's not quite meshing with the team that well. He seems like he's in position to be a four that can shoot from behind the arc. Half his shots are from three, but he's only made 2 of 8 there and if you look at his career you're really not expecting a ton from him that way. In their rotations they end up having him as a ball handler distributing and I've mostly found that idea sounds cooler than it actually looks when they try and execute it. I'm not saying you can't have the guy on the team, I'm sure he poses value to them. He's smart, passes well, CAN shoot from behind the arc (though he isn't even the knock down shooter that way that Bosh is, and Bosh himself isn't a specialist that way). I get it. But we're calling him "rare" and talking about it being a "mistake" (sorry, you didn't say major) to get rid of him? I'm not sure about that. If you get a nice piece like Jarnell Stokes then that'll make it go down easier.
A PF that can handle and pass like he can is very rare. Add his ability to stretch the floor and that makes him even more rare IMO. I do think the Heat are learning to play with him, but I think that can be said about the team as a whole as they are a new group. When he's on the floor, though, the ball moves, and I think that's a good thing. If you trade him at this point you are making your team worse this year. If that turns into a major piece like Durant next year, fine. If not, I don't like it. Some of the big pieces on this team are getting older, and you have a legit chance to be really good right now. I don't know why you'd mess with that right now. You can probably trade McRoberts in the offseason if you really need to. He's on a pretty fair deal. As for replacing him with Stokes, I like his upside, but this is a guy who's averaging 2 mins per game right now. I don't think we should set the bar very high for him just yet.
Tyler Johnson will miss next game as he will be forced, in punishment, to attend the funeral of Marcelo Huerta's ankles.
Dragic needs to figure this out, and this is a good time with all these home games against a soft sched. He did not look good tonight, though...at all. Bosh with a quiet 30 and 11. Love that guy. And wow the Lakers are a disaster...yikes.
Nice read on rotations and lineups that are clicking. http://www.nba.com/heat/newsrecap/masters-unlocking
Interesting. That could be the lineup that incorporates McBob the best. Which is ironic because McBob is supposed to be more a guy that can keep Bosh fresh until the playoffs.
In a strange turn, Justise Winslow managed to be +/- 0 in a game the Heat won by 13 points, while all five starters managed to get in the plus column. Dragic was +23, Wade +23, Whiteside +22, Deng +13 and Bosh +9. Poor Josh Richardson only played 15 minutes but managed to be -13.
Knicks look like a playoff team at this point. We are only scratching the surface of Porz at this point. By the time April rolls around its 15-10 pretty consistently i think. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It's the power of potential. His superb athleticism gives him that potential and he's making good on it.
