Who's your dream scenario for Head Coach next year?

If not Campbell, then I'm completely on board with this. 100%

If Campbell doesn’t turn out to be the option, then I’d like your scenario. However, Schwartz recently said he’d like another shot as HC, so I don’t know if he’ll take another D coordinator position next year. I think you could see a couple free agent coaches who could also be a nice fit with Jackson….TENN (LeBeau, Horton) and more than likely DET (Austin). I was a fan of what Teryl Austin did last year in Detroit with that D, but that whole team is a dumpster fire this year which will diminish his candidacy some as a HC. If he’s available as a D coordinator, I wouldn’t mind seeing him alongside Jackson.

I’m surprised Sean McDermott isn’t getting more attention as a candidate. I think he may have interviewed a couple places last year, but that D is consistently ranked high every year. Very aggressive scheme that he learned under the late Jim Johnson. Also, I think you have to give some credit to McDermott for the development of the CB Norman. His offensive staff would be key.

Considering that he'd require draft pick compensation to hire, I would not be the excited going this route. I'm sure this option will be explored due to Ross' fascination with the big name, but hopefully we go another route. Definitely a bright offensive mind, but hasn't had success lately on the other side of the ball.

It's been rumored that Hue Jackson would want to bring Vance Joseph, the Bengals DB coach, with him as DC. I'm not sure if he's beholden to any scheme or not. My speculation and reason for wanting Schwartz is twofold.

    1) Miami's already offered him a consulting position; Schwartz declined. But, he's obviously got experience with Ndamukong Suh and built a helluva defense with the Bills in 2014. I think Suh, Jelani Jenkins and Reshad Jones give him three really nice pieces to build from. Four if Wake comes back, but I think he's more of a pass-rush specialist if he does.

    2) Hue Jackson interviewed for the Bills job this past offseason before they hired Rex Ryan. Jackson said that had he received the job he'd have kept Schwartz on as DC. I think, and this is connecting dots, that Miami's offer to Schwartz as a consultant could have been a precursor to Jackson coming aboard in 2016. Schwartz and Al Saunders, who is now with Miami, seems like it was at least an attempt to set the table for Hue Jackson.

Teryl Austin interests me, but Detroit's defense is awfully bad this year. Obviously losing Suh, Fairley and George Johnson along the D-line hurts, and now Deandre Levy is on IR, but I don't think they should be as bad as they are. Still, I'd be interested.

This is a WAY different thread than what I thought it was going to be when I clicked on the little prompt to the side there where the title said...

"What is your dream scenario for head"...

    WAY different.

It really seems like Schwartz is holding out for a HC job. How long will he do that before giving up and being a DC again? Who knows, but he seems set in his plan.

If Schwartz doesn't get a HC opportunity this next off-season, becoming a DC and showing teams what he's worth will be his only option in the NFL. I doubt he would want to go to the NCAA level and coach. Missing more than two or three years coaching will make him obsolete.

I'm not sure I buy that, he already took a post-Lions DC job with Buffalo. His Detroit contract also had offsets built in, for all intents and purposes he took a job when he could have stayed home and cashed those checks.

I think what he's really doing is looking for a DC job that will get him another shot. Taking over the Dolphins defense mid-season is pretty far from optimal.

Hue Jackson with Schwartz would be nice. Jackson got a raw deal in Oakland. I think he would be good for Tannehill as well. One can dream.

Unless we bottom out and quit fighting, Dan Campbell should get the nod. You don't let a personality like that walk without giving them a fair shot. We did it with Bowles and look at the regret we live with.

I have to say, this is the first thread I've ever seen Hue Jackson's name suggested as a head coaching option. I admit, I had to google him to find out what team he is coaching for now, and once I did I realize why he's the sudden rage as a head coach option. I won't pretend to know if it's a good idea or not, but I have to wonder if the Bengals offensive success has more to do with the lights coming on for Andy Dalton, not to completely diminish Hue Jackson as he seems to have had success with several different teams.

My concern with Jackson is not that it's Andy Dalton giving him success, but the entire offense around Dalton. Andy Dalton is SURROUNDED by talent. Any QB would be supremely lucky to have A.J. Green, Tyler Eifert, Jeremy Hill, Giovanni Bernard and a veteran offensive line.

Bowles was far more experienced...a better comparison would probably be Jason Garrett, who only coached about 6 years before becoming interim coach and keeping the job but even he was a highly successful OC and assistant HC.

Richt also has a "south Florida" connection, as he was Jim Kelly's backup at the []_[]niversity of Miami.

If Georgia dumped Richt, Georgia Tech would dump Paul Johnson and pick him up and give him the opportunity to spoil Georgia's season every year.

Bowles was future HC material. Campbell is not. There's a difference.

If we end up having to go with a guy with no NFL head coaching experience I hope it's Malzahn.

Bill Bellichick. I'm only kind of trolling. But I'm not sure there's a smarter coach in the league, even considering the cheating. That's partly because the rest of the league is filled with morons. But if we're dreaming...
