That's part of his value, yup. On the road for a back-to-back and without 2 regular rotation guys in the backcourt...and we're still able to keep Deng to 28mins and Wade to 31. That's important stuff over the course of a long season. Winslow and TJ seem to have something cooking as well, as a reserve group, nice chemistry and pretty tenacious defense. We'll see how much burn they give Winslow tonight after he played 36 in Minn. I kind of hope he's more limited if possible (maybe Rio plays?), but the selfish part of me wants to watch him guard Paul George all night. Anyways, now we maybe see why the staff gave Justise so many days off in the summer and preseason...knew they were going to need him to spell this older roster. Whiteside was terrific and used his length extremely well to suffocate Towns. Wade and Bosh were great, a couple vets showing that young team how it's done.
They're giving Winslow a ton of minutes and he's rewarding them with all-around solid play. The only thing I can criticize about him thus far is he needs to get more consistent finishing at the rim on his drives. He's driving really well and showing massive potential that way but then doesn't finish. Otherwise he looks like an NBA veteran starter.
Stat line says 7 TOs but probably moot point. He's taken the criticism of his lack of assists to heart so he's trying to show off his passing skillz, and it's not working because he doesn't have passing skillz.
Winslow is playing top notch D and keeping his offense in the flow of the game. When he develops his jumper some more and looks to initiate offense look out!
You have to remember...Winslow is 19 years old. 19 year old rookies that play LIKE THIS...usually turn into 12 year NBA veterans with several All-Star game appearances. You gotta be excited. He does have STAR potential.
Would it be wrong of me to suggest that I haven't seen Dwyane Wade play this well this consistently in a while? Only five games I suppose, but this is impressive. He's even got his ups back.
Good matchup that focused on the big man battle between Whiteside and Karl-Anthony Towns: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gb6gU_EQAkc
Physically, he just looks lighter. His face actually looks... un-fat. It looks to me like he has shed about 15 lbs. just off of his face.
We played a solid game against Indiana on a back to back road. Heat are only .500 but I think they will get a top 4 seed if they stay healthy. Paul George played lights out nothing we could do about that. Justice Winslow, watch out for this rookie. He plays great defense, and last night he was even clicking on offense.
there was just some ugly possessions, too much ball stopping, and lazy defense on the second half.... in the first half we moved the ball well up until the last 4 minutes... we can't stay away from that identity.. keep the ball moving..
There were a lot of wasted possessions where the ball just stuck and then someone took a bad jumper as the clock expired. That was a very winnable game even with PG going ham.
We are going to be just fine. You can already see the depth we have, Wade is healthy and looking great while Whiteside has really come into his own. Cant wait until we really get clicking.
So glad we beat the clippers. Harden with 46 points, Dwight with 20 points & 20 rebounds. And, once again Marcus Thornton has just been fantastic. 4-1 since he became a starter. That guy can shoot. Can't believe Morey got him for so cheap, lol.
I hope no one is panicking about the Heat. The team is still learning how to play together and not having Gerald Green right now is a big loss for the team. With that said this team is top 4 in the east at least and the best team to take down the Cavs.
Like I asked a few days ago, is it crazy to think Whiteside is already our best player? I know he can't pass but the man is simply unbelievable. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I believe I said that quite a few times. Man, it's a good thing PorzinGOD looks like he may become a Dirk/Pau combo with better D. You have a very good player. For whatever reason GM'S don't like him, probably because he doesn't really have a position but when you need offense he's a good guy to have around. If you have defenders around him, he can really be a positive impact.
Most big men dont have good ball handling skills. Ill take that as long he rebounds, attacks the rim, and blocks shots. Sent from my SM-G900T using Tapatalk
No, of course, but that's the only criticism I ever see or hear about him. I think he's clearly our best player. Anybody else think so? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
well his agent will certainly think so next offseason when negotiating with Riley... Going to ask for the max.
He deserves it imho. The guy looks like the most complete center to me. Cousins puts up sweet offensive stats but so does Whiteside and he's a shot blocking and altering machine. I love the guy. I've been wanting a decent center since before the Big 3 era and now we've got Mutombo 2.0. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Wow. Whiteside is averaging 14.7 points, 10.9 rebounds and 4 blocks per game so far at 63.9 FG% and 29.7 mpg. If he stays healthy I think he can easily do 12/10 2.75 bpg, 60 FG% 30 mpg for the entire season. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Whiteside isn't the best player on the team, IMO. He would not be the player he is if not for guys like Wade and Bosh. But I stagger to think of what he would have been if LeBron were still here. Mind you he wouldn't be a huge offensive dynamo, but overall.
That's fair, although I think he could still produce very well on a bad team. LeBron and Whiteside, imagine that... I bet LJ wished he stayed once he ended up in the Finals with no help and he saw the roster we've come up with. I still don't buy that he wanted to return home. I still think it was a PR, business move and he thought he was going to a younger, albeit inexperienced, more talented roster. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Safe travels L.A....you can have your D. Russell. We are just fine with our 1st rd pk Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It's crazy how having Tyler Johnson can in certain situations be like having another forward on the floor, because he plays that far above the rim with his kangaroo leaping ability. Heat grabbed a guy DJ Stephens from Memphis a few years back and had him play in Summer League and this is basically what I had in mind for him, because the one thing he did remarkably well was jump a mile in the air.
Winslow also leads the heat with a plus-71 (good for 11th in the NBA). He's not getting much attention nationally, and his stats won't blow you away, but man is he making a difference on the floor for this team.
Winslow might already be the very best young perimeter defender in the NBA. Yes..Paul George lit him up. He "LIT HIM UP" by making a million mid range jumpers that Winslow FORCED! I am more impressed by the day.
I think an argument can be made for him as one of the best perimeter defenders in the NBA period. He is tenacious.
