I think if you took Tom Brady and whoever their OC is right now you'd have a pretty potent offense and with Bill Belichick to scout for and coordinate the defense it's nearly unbeatable over the long haul. Simple fact is the Patriots are great. We can't change that and it has nothing to do with Tannehill and this discussion honestly so we're better off not asking meaningless hypotheticals.

That said, Brady probably couldn't take the current Dolphins to the Super Bowl given the limitations of the team are so heavily on the defensive side and that the offense is so unable to move the ball on the ground. Neither of those things involve the QB and so upgrading to Brady wouldn't fix the biggest issues.

I didn't take that to really be the question though. I think the difficult question involves asking how long you're comfortable rolling with a guy who may not have that elite gear. To me, this team needs a lot of help. Beating the Titans and Texans was nothing in my book. It seems like every time this team faces a quality defense they fold offensively and look almost inept at times. The defense is constantly getting rushed back out on the field.

I definitely don't think this type of pass-heavy, QB-driven offense is going to be very reliable without a superstar at QB and so it seems stupid to me to feature Tannehill the way Lazor seems to want to do. I want Lazor gone for that reason. He just cannot see the importance of running the ball and he has to be forced to run the ball on 1st and 2nd down it seems. That's awful and I really do feel sorry for Tannehill.

But there are a lot of average people in the world and there's nothing wrong with being average except when it comes to being a QB. You can't really be average. You have to be exceptional and you have to consistently make great throws from the pocket to beat great defenses and so far Tannehill's not been amazing me. This far into his career, I don't see change coming.

And also, for what it's worth Res, I'd distance myself from you know who.

yes, one of the greatest qb's of all time is justa dink and dunker.lol..must be a hell of a dinker and duker ill tell ya that..

wow..no mention of all the other great stuff the guy does on the field..the dude takes his parts and utlizes them to attack...sure, with eddleman and amedola you wanna crete a deep ariel attack...lol..just forget how nimble and swift they are in the short yardage areas and send them on 9 routes..

pretty sure Brady to Moss was a lethal combination when he was there.

Actually you don't really say much anything of significance.

He has done it by LEADERSHIP, masterfully managing the game, making great decisions, converting 3rd downs, leading team on long drives and being clutch in the 4th quarter...3 4th quarter comebacks and 4 Game Winning Drives.

AMAZING! Tannehill has 5 game winning drives total in his 55 game career and Brady has 4 in his 6 Super Bowls.

Well, to be fair, DJ, the criticism of Brady and the Pats has always been a dink and dunk offense (not saying I agree with the criticism). Moss is a HoF WR, maybe the greatest ever, I'd hope he could go deep with him.

And to be accurate, how many games were won off of Vinatieri's foot?

For the record, I still see Tannehill as the guy this year as well as next year.

The problem is that we've been subjected to overlap between GMs, HCs, and franchise players for too long. The truth is Miami almost got it right with Bill Parcells because they legitimately tried to wipe the slate clean. If it weren't for a few bad draft picks and a few unfortunate injuries that really could've been a starting point. Unfortunately the early exit of Parcells, the unnecessary overlap of letting Ireland hang around when Philbin was hired and the keeping of Philbin when a new GM came in were all things that hurt the team.

The patchwork philosophy is part of why Miami continues to overextend itself. The Suh signing was just another move that seemed forced and ill-planned.

A rebuild probably is in order and if Tannenbaum is the guy to make those decisions, well, we're just going to have to accept that even though his track record ain't great.

The truth is though, there's still a huge elephant in the room. Do you force the next HC to accept Tannehill and build with him or do you let the next HC have some control and do what he wants? With Tannenbaum here and him being a big part of Tannehill's contract, I think Tannehill will be forced on the next HC which sucks, not because Tannehill is bad but because forcing one guy to work with another usually doesn't pan out and putting players above coaches just because of expense rather than production is backwards.

I had a thought today...what about trading Tannehill?

It's crazy but it would be an interesting conversation.

what criticism?, from who?.. theres nothing to criticize..he attacks according to the talents of his weapons, you think if he had odell becham and jarvis landry he would be any different..his arm talent is great, he discects any defense...hes put to rest all debates imo..

Because they don't have Belichick as the head coach, I agree that Brady could not take this team to the SB. Yet I do believe with the offensive talent on the Dolphins roster and Brady's ability to see the entire field and his ability to move in the pocket and get rid of the ball to different receivers, the Dolphins would be a playoff team with Brady this year and would have been in recent years.

What separates the Patriots from the majority of the teams in the league besides having Brady is the culture the Patriots have the developed under Belichick. The players have bought into the ,"next man up" philosophy of Belichick.
That is why they could start two rookie offensive linemen and a backup offensive lineman against the Dolphins and not miss a beat on offense.

If the Dolphins were forced to go with two rookie offensive linemen and a backup offensive lineman in a game, Tannehill would likely be sacked 10 times or more.

There were a bunch of guys on a Madden forum I used to go to that always leveled that criticism. I've heard it other places as well.

I always said, if it was that easy to do, and win, everyone would do it.

Well, that's the question. What is he worth? It's pretty unprecedented that a young "franchise QB" comes onto the market. It would be pretty telling if Miami didn't get a decent offer.

Ryan isn't going anywhere, and that's fine. But he needs a lot around him to be right before he can be a consistent winner. He is a caretaker that will almost always go as his surroundings go. Alex Smith made more plays this morning than Ryan has all year. I really thought we would see that huge jump....instead we just need to accept that he is what he is. Decent.

Yeah those numbers are pretty good, the thing is he isn't consistent man. I'm not a Tannehill hater what so ever. Quite the contrary, I want him to succeed. I want whatever's best for the Miami Dolphins.

His inconsistency is maddening. His pocket presence is awful and hasn't improved one iota since he's been in the league. He doesn't have the killer instinct to put teams away, he Damn sure can't carry a team on his back when all else fails. He DISSAPEARS in the biggest games he's played in. That's my take on the guy..... He flashes brilliance but few in far between.

Ok, fair question then...why do you think that could so easily happen?

I suspect that that if Tannehill replaced Brady, much of the up-tempo flow of the Patriots offense (if not all of it) would be lost. To me, Brady is the best QB in football so it's weird to me to hear someone suggest that anyone could replace him, let alone Ryan Tannehill. So much of the Patriots' offense relies on Brady being able to make quick decisions and facilitate the ball being spread around with quick, highly accurate throws. To me, Tannehill is weak in reading defenses and making quick decisions and his accuracy isn't great so it just wouldn't work. It's a bad fit at best.

I just don't see Tannehill as being reliable enough to operate in NE, do you? He'd probably have some big games but we're talking about a guy who can barely sniff 300 yards in a game. To me, Brady is the reason why Edelman is good and a big part of why Grownkowski stands out as such a big threat. I think Edelman would be a nobody with Tannehill and Gronkowski would look a lot like Cameron does now.

Brees is lethal at home, we were a bad decision away from finally having a franchise QB...now? We aren't stuck at square one but certainly not established either. Of course Drew Brees doesn't come along every year.

I think that BB would scheme to his strengths. I think he'd thrive with a big, bruising tight end and receivers who excel at running great routes and getting YAC.

If Tannehill is so poor why would the ravens give up the superbowl winning Joe flacco? This is where all these arguments fall down. If we trade him he must be better than we thought.

I picked these two out because we're not getting a top tier or even a 2nd tier qb for Tannehill. Nobody trades good qb's. They do trade above average qb's sometimes and that is what Foles and Flacco are. They are above Tannehill imo.

Well, you're talking about rebuilding an offense around Tannehill. No need to put him on the Patriots if you're going to restructure like that. Why not do those things in Miami? I think the question then is, do you need Tannehill and his skills for that? Probably not. It that scenario, Tannehill is just the guy you have and it could be almost anyone.

However, I don't see the commitment in Miami's front office to physicality. That would be required to build a run-first, play-action type of offense that pushed the ball into the intermediate and deep areas of the field. I think that would work for Tannehill but I don't think that Tannenbaum's vision. He has no vision.

I'd readily admit that I think Lazor and Tannenbaum are both bad news for the Dolphins. They are both bad at organizing things around them. Neither seems to really understand what they're doing over the long run. Philbin is finally gone so that's good and Lazor will probably be let go at season's end when a new HC comes in but Tannenbaum is here to stay.

Maybe you can't get around that and the Dolphins are just screwed as a result because honestly, I don't see the team winning under Tannenbaum using any type of strategy. Tannenbaum is just not a visionary who will go by a set script. He's going to chase one Suh or another each off-season and that's a disaster. I promise Miami will make another big splash this off-season again and it'll end up badly.

    Ugh. So frustrating.

If Miami could bring in a Bruce Arians type, maybe something good would come from it. I still like Vic Fangio for HC. He could rebuild the defense while an OC could be hired to support Tannehill by featuring a good running game and going play-action off that.

Foles and Flacco isnt a huge leap from Tannehill. I do believe we would get one or two more wins a season with Foles or Flacco, giving us a shot at a wild card every year.

Hes the best QB on the team, but he's also a moron.

Tannehill dinks and dunks...Tom Brady places the ball. There is a difference, a huge one. Jarvis Landry catches 120 balls a year in NE, you could bank on that.
