There goes our pass rush. He was the only one getting consistent pressure. Now all teams have to do is double team Suh, sit comfortably in the pocket and pick apart aikens, Taylor and our LB's. We saw how bad this defense was before he was at full health, I fear for the worst.

Again, you've got people absolutely racing to be the first to shovel dirt on his proverbial grave.

We'll see what happens going forward, but nothing is a given either way.

NFL Sirius 2 Minute Drill cited a report that he is done for the year. I missed the source.

If it's an Achillies injury of any kind, chances are he's not going to come back this year.

[An MRI done this morning confirmed Wake ruptured his Achilles. He is out for the year.]

Hes out 6-12 months, depending. It's not the best news.

Probably the last we see of Wake in a Dolphins uniform which hurts way worse than the loss last night.

You wouldn't have been able to get much for Wake at this age no matter his productivity. It's better to keep him, get your 10+ sacks for the season and have him as a mentor for the rest of your team.

What REALLY hurts is Dion Jordan was never given much of a chance and ended up being a screwup. That sets your franchise back at least another season.

I vehemently disagree with your final statement. Campbell still has time to prove himself. One blowout loss to the greatest NFL dynasty, playing with a vengeance, in their territory is hardly indicative of how good a coach Campbell is.

Yeah what the hell is up with these racing knee jerk reactions? Wake will be back next year and most likely restructure his contract. Campbell isn't done as our coach, Tannehill isn't a bust, just inconsistent, our O line is still *** juice, Landry is going to be a diva...its the receiver way.
We just have to run the ball and have a balanced attack on offense. Last night is on Lazors stupid *** and Tannehill for crumbling under the big stage.

    WHY WAKE, GOD?! WHY

Suddenly I'm feeling less and less confident about /playoffs even in this awful AFC year.

You knew he was done yesterday you rarely see a player react to an injury that way. He slowly put his mouth piece in his helmet and then just stared off into the horizon, as if he was contemplating his whole career up to that point.

    Not at all.

More like empathizing bc it's an awful situation. A torn achilles is pretty much the worse thing that could happen to a 34 yo DE who absolutely needs his speed to be effective.

Obviously we'd all like to see him back and playing at a high level, but to think it's not that likely is just being realistic.

He strikes me as a reasonable guy so I think he'd be open to restructuring to stay w us.

Would be great to still have him around to continue to coach up the young guys.

    It's quite possible:

    link

There's guys on this list who have 5 good years at 34+ years of age, and he didn't suffer what is much of a career-threatening injury. The guy also does an incredibly good job taking care of his body, and has recovered quickly from injuries in the past. I think it's more likely he comes back and plays well than he doesn't, but there is significant risk.

Not saying it's not possible and if anyone could do it, it's Wake.

Like you said though there's significant risk and with his recent injuries this year and last, it's more concerning imo.

I definitely appreciate the sentiment, but your downplaying a ruptured achilles tendon, that's a serious injury, just look at Marino's atrophied calf, at 33 that is a career threatening injury, usually you never get back to 100%, so more than likely he'll never be the same, and also more than likely he won't be ready to play at the start of next year.

Either way, he's had a heck of a run here, only D Ware(78) and J Allen(77.5) have more sacks since Wake(70) came to the NFL.

He's had a series of lower leg injuries over the past few years. It's time to move on from him unless he excepts a major paycut.

In the last 3 years, Wake has started every single game except for one and has 35 sacks in that span. He is still an elite player who knows how to take care of his body. I would bring him back and I wouldn't even think twice about it.

Once we cut him he will immediately look to go to a contender. Don't you think he's sick of being on a mediocre team all these years?

That's true, but his play indicates it hasn't slowed him down at all. Just look at the way he played the last 3 games before the injury.

I know he's owed a lot of money next year, but he's so valuable and he still plays at a high level. I don't care that he'll be 34. Plenty of guys have played at a high level well past that age.

I think it would be more accurate to say a few exceptions have, but not after having a ruptured achilles at 33.

I appreciate that, and I'm a huge Wake fan, when we signed him I learned everything I could about him and fell into man crush, the guys story is pretty amazing, and I was convinced he would make it at the NFL level, I thought situational passrusher at worst, and I took a lot of flak for it, because Canadian players rarely panned out, but I was a huge fan before he ever took a snap for us.

However, none of the exceptions ruptured their achilles at 33, so he's not going to be one of those exceptions, he'd have to set a new standard, one that would baffle medical science.

Perhaps he could, but I wouldn't place any money on it, without his speed he's not going to get it done, losing a half a step for him is losing a job.

I've got two Wake jerseys, love the player, but I can't see why he'd return here unless we paid the full amount owed to him next season.

Yes, we gave him his shot in the NFL but he's been an excellent player and we haven't held up our end of the bargain as an organization.

If I were him and the Dolphins suggested I restructured or run the risk of being cut, I'd go elsewhere to win. Why return if I'm not getting paid? I want to win, I held up my end, I fought my *** off to return, I deserve it.

I hear what you're saying, but it really burns my *** when I watch games and see us getting burned by players that used to be Dolphins...Wes Welker being one of the more painful ones.

It just seems to me that the strategy of trading GREAT talent to build our OVERALL talent has failed miserably in Miami. In my humble opinion, the strategy needs to be bring in, either through FA or the draft talent to build around the GREAT talent we're fortunate enough to possess.

We need a Troy Polomalu, Darelle Revis or Dieon Sanders on defense...
We need a Keith Simms or Richmond Webb on offense...

I'm tired of rebuilding year after year

Wake's career was always based upon the remarkably explosive power he generated from his feet through his legs. I'll always remember him for that.
