No matter what happens to the Cubs this series, I think they are gonna be a team that is gonna compete for the next few years and beyond. This series is only making them better in the long run. The future is bright. That being said, Let's go Mets.
Fun fact: The Mets have never swept a 7 game postseason series. Tomorrow would be a great day for a 1st time that happened. Matz vs Hammel...Cubs havent seen Matz yet this year. Mets got to find more offense besides Murphy.
It would be something if the Cubbies came back just for the simple fact that, the last time a team broke "curse" it started when they were down 3-0 vs a New York team.
Agreed and I'm sure there are going to be countless articles today about the Theo/Curse/NY connection but there are two big differences the Cubs are nowhere near as good as the '04 Red Sox and the Mets pitching staff doesn't have Kevin Brown, Javy Vazquez, or Jon Lieber in it.
Everybody has Price going to the Cubs but for some reason i see Greinke landing there. And just for fun Price to the Angels Cueto to the Red Sox Zimmerman to the Dodgers.
My choice would be Price, then Zimmerman. Don't really want any part of Grienke. I see him as a much bigger risk.
Greinke is by far the better pitcher and top free agent. The only "risk" there may be is will he be able to interact with his teammates/be comfortable from the start due to his social anxiety disorder. But if he gets comfortable from the get go then its not even close who is the guy to get. Greinke will be the one everyone is after.
I get it, but Im a Cubs fan. If it can go wrong, it will. If Grienke is a "10", and the others are a "9", I'm happily going with the 9, even if the risk is only 1%.
With the youth on that team i think he would fit in great. Imo he should avoid the Red Sox and Yankees at all costs.
Cubs must be waving the white flag if Arrieta isn't pitching today... Gas-can Hammel vs the Mets really? On Back to the Future Day, I'll still place a wager on the Cubs moneyline even though they likely lose, I just don't think they exit the series swept.
Definitely Anderson so Teixeira and Ellsbury have someone to talk when they're on the DL together. Seriously though not sure Leake would be a good fit in YS but I do like Anderson when he's healthy assuming the price is right.
ahaha Tex for one more year!! Woooooo!! I will say that was a totally different team offensively when he went down....Assuming he stayed healthy, I wonder if they would have finished differently..
I think he's a selfish player, and whoever does pick him up should be careful to temper expectations. Buyer beware.
I am in way too many threads to contribute in this one as well...but Boik..you are aware I am a long time Mets fan right? Congrats to us.
Section, I knew there was another reason why I liked you outside of your contributions to this site & Al Swearengen/Pat Riley avatar.
Congrats to all the Mets fans, the team has been fun to watch in these playoff games so far. Good luck in the WS.
Props to the Mets. You guys were just better. No complaints about the umps or anything like that. You just kicked the Cubs rear ends for four games. A very hollow ending to a good season. I think I'd have actually felt better about the Cubs season had we lost to the Cards in 5, and just not gotten to the NLCS after this. They just plain weren't good enough.
It was only 4 games, doesn't mean the Mets were better or worse than the Cubs overall, just means that they were the first team to win 4 games and win the series. Cubs had a great season, nothing to be upset about, they just had a bad 4 games in a row unfortunately. It's the playoffs, sometimes the better team doesn't win a series.
I think it did in this case though, the Mets dominated every aspect......their pitching is amazing...
Yep I remembered you saying that a long time ago. Still can't believe our team actually did it...now we got to win 4 more games You should be back for the next few years. You'll have another few cracks at this I'm sure. Kris Bryant rookie year almost mirrors Ted Williams 1939 season....trust me you have a good young lineup. Another good SP or two and some pen help...
But it was still only 4 games. I'm sure there was a point in the regular season that a bad team beat up on a good team in a 4 game series. It's too small of a sample size, just like how Daniel Murphy has turned into Barry Bonds circa 2001. It's been what 10 games. Again not taking anything away from the Mets or even saying the Mets weren't as good as the Cubs, etc. whatever. My statement really was just a general statement and had nothing to do with any team in particular. Just saying that in a short series any team can win and sometimes the better team doesn't.
Thanks, man. I do love our young players, and am happy that most of them did well against the Pirates and Cards. It will be exciting to see how the team uses them all, and what positions everyone ends up playing in Spring Training. Only Rizzo and Russell are locked into their positions on the diamond. I agree that we need bullpen help. Maddon and Bosio worked wonders with castoffs this year, getting every ounce out of guys to make it work, but it was always hanging by a thread. I'm hoping for a trade for one of the bigger closers, but I know that there's only so much room in the budget. Still paying almost 17 mil to guys who won't be on the roster in 2016.
He refused to start game 1 of the ALDS, for starters. He won't pitch on short rest. He won't pitch out of the bullpen. He lets opposing fans get in his head (see the last start up in Toronto). He seems like a bit of a head case. I was stoked when we traded for him but he seems like a slightly above average pitcher who thinks he's a superstar, but doesn't always pitch like one. We thought we were getting an Ace for the playoffs and we've gotten a #3 starter, at best, who has great stuff at times (like against Houston) but most of the time is slightly below average.
Yeah it's probably going to happen. I think Price is their first choice but he's probably going to get a higher contract than Schrzer did. I actually think Cueto might get less than Lester.
With all due respect, the Cueto we have seen as a Royal is not the same guy he's been throughout his career. As a Royals fan, I'm very disappointed by this. However, he is much better than a "slightly above average" pitcher over his career.
