I really don't like the sound of this. The defense has been crap, the DC got fired, but we're gonna double down on his scheme that has clearly been a problem. Smart.
I think it's true, but just to an extent. Wake being dinged up an ineffective is a really big problem. We have no strength and speed coming off the edge. Shelby is behind him? We desperately need speed and power coming off the edge. The LBs have just been lame. They certainly need to execute better. I'm sure they'll shake things up a bit, but nothing drastic.
That's a really broad answer that could mean fixing the defense, or the same old crap. Within the confines of the current defense, I think they could do a whole hell of a lot if they figured out the run fits/gap discipline, put a couple players in different positioning, and dropped some problematic tendencies. They don't have to dramatically change the defense to do that.
I keep seeing this word "jibe." I don't think it means what you think it means. This post is meant in good fun.
We run the same defense as they have in Minnesota and Cincinnati. There are some players who are really weak links on the defense if you ask me. And you're not going to change your defense in the bye week.
What seems to be missing in this defense is that roving, sideline-to-sideline middle linebacker who can make the plays the defensive line creates by absorbing blockers. That was Zach Thomas when Tim Bowens and Daryl Gardener were the blocker eaters. On this team it's not only not anyone the caliber of Zach Thomas, but it's no one the caliber of even an average player, seemingly.
Anarumo needs to understand an important part of what he's supposed to do involves "change". If he's convinced there's nothing wrong with the schemes, then obviously there's something wrong with how those schemes were being coached. There's always ways to incorporate change, and he better learn quick. Words like "similar", "continue", "same way" and "it all points to execution" are unpopular around here. He needs to know that simply defending what was, is not an option. To merely defend what was, will find us wishing him out into the cornfields, just like that bad man Kevin Coyle. He was a really bad man.
What a disappointing thread, it just brings the reality back at us.....the players just may not be that good. That means rebuild, that means at least 2-3 years MORE of losing
You gotta think about it though Res....Coach Lou isnt going to step up to the podium a first time DC and tell everyone the scheme was the problem. He isnt going to trash Coyle, just wont happen. Of course hes gonna say it wasnt the Scheme. Doesnt mean they wont change aspects of the scheme....but he wont say it publicly.
It also needs some speed and power and just some damn pressure from the edge. Wake being dinged up an ineffective really hurts. It could also use having our starting FS healthy. It could also use a couple of decent to good DBs. Along with a good MLB, it could also use some good outside backers. Damn!!
The scheme is a 4-3 defense. Do you want them to adopt a 3-4 during the season? Wait and see if there are changes in how they play.
Jones has been flying around all season. I will be happy if I see more player hustling to the play. Playing on the edge. That is what I ant to see.
Scheme + effort. As much as I like Suh he definitely has not given a $1.2 million + effort each game. That it has happened only 4 games into his Dolphin career is rather disappointing. http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-netwo...3000000550781/Diagnosing-the-Dolphins-defense
