I would keep lazor for the remainder of the season and see what happens Im not sure who was making those calls but we know for a fact Joe was having his input on some plays. Coyle needs firing we know what we got in him. Bring in Swartz for a look this year and see what he can do.
Lazor hasn't been fired yet (mention Coyle in another thread) and he needs to be. Lazor comes from the Chip Kelly offense and like the "Wildcat" we implemented, the Kelly style of offense has been sniffed out and figured out. Because of this, Lazor's offense is not only anemic, it also fails to play to the strength and talent of the Dolphins offense. Tanehill was sharp and on fire last season, which led many to believe that THIS was the season, but now there are folks screaming that Tannehill isn't the answer and can't play at the NFL level. Well, I argue that it isn't Tannehill, nor Miller, nor the receivers we brought in. Granted our offensive line is shakey at best but the real problem is the scheme we're running. As I pointed out earlier, like the Wildcat was sniffed out and shut down both Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams, two VERY talented running backs, Lazor's Chip Kelly style offense has been sniffed out and shut down. Defenses have figured it out. Either adapt your scheme to the talent of your players or adapt your resume Lazor because your days in Miami are numbered.
It seems like the defensive players have a problem w/Coyle more than the offensive players w/Lazor... Coyle must go for sure. I'll let Campbell decide what to do w/Lazor.
I hate the thought of bringing in outsiders. Forget about Schwartz. Replace from within temporarily, see what happens for the rest of the season, then clean house.
Hope you don't mind, I renamed the thread to reflect current status. Here's the latest, per Ian Rapaport: https://twitter.com/RapSheet/status/651068367831478272
Jim Schwartz as DC though is intriguing. Know of another coach out there that knows how to unleash Suh? Just saying, that's all
PLEASE, PLEASE be true! I wanted this more than Philbin in fact!! Schwartz would be a good temp stop gap and maybe it works out.
What a great day. If we don't win another game I'll live. Knowning this atrocious coaching staff is on it's way out the door is like a bus being lifted off you.
Yeah, Coyle totally needs to go too. Kind of a package deal if you ask me. Coyle has failed here, and rather miserably these last two seasons.
I just don't see Schwartz as option as the DC at this time. I think if Coyle is fired, one of the assistants on the staff will likely be promoted to interim DC. Bringing in a coach midway through the season just doesn't make any sense. The players on the defense were complaining that Coyle's defense is too complicated to learn. I see no way these same players are going to be able to learn a completely different defensive scheme if an outside DC was hired to take over. If Campbell is now the interim HC, he should be able to appointment his own DC from the staff he has been working with for the past few years. Last but not least, it might be very possible that Schwartz would have no interest in taking a job knowing that the entire coaching staff will likely be replaced once the season ends. A new HC in 2016 would certainly want to hire his own staff and Schwartz would have no assurance the new HC would want to hire him.
I don't know maybe we should ask Tannehill that question since he's the one eating turf every game. A sensible OC would run a mass protection scheme almost every play to make up for this porous OL.
I don't agree. Bringing in someone like Schwartz at THIS time makes perfect sense and you have the benefit of Suh to help as a player coach on the field...which is what you want in player leadership as it is. 2 weeks until the next time we play...plenty of time to prepare Plus, it would give Schwartz the opportunity to vie his candidacy for the end of season head coaching position. not saying I would WANT him as head coach...just arguing that bringing him in now makes sense for the reasons above, that's all
While I understand your reasoning. I just don't see the Dolphins bringing in a coach from the outside. They felt that they had a replacement for the remainder of the season in Campbell to be their head coach. So I would expect them to promote one of their assistants to the DC position if Coyle is also fired. I have nothing against Schwartz and he might make an excellent DC for the team in 2016. I would just be extremely surprised by them hiring him on an interim basis.
I see both sides, but think if Schwartz came in and improved this D, he would be in a good position to be a HC for another team. It would be like training camp hires...another team is always looking at your work. Either way, we win.
you cut cambells legs out from under him if you bring in someone like Schwartz and say you could be HC if you do well...
I (personally) wasn't thinking of making Schwartz the head coach if he did well. I would be sure to tell him it's an opportunity for another team to see you still have it and possibly get another shot with another team. It's better than what he's doing now.....nothing. I would leave the decision completely up to Campbell. Like the rest of the coaches, Schwartz would answer to him.
My argument is not that Schwartz doesn't know how to use Suh. The Dolphins need to CLEAN HOUSE, not tie themselves to someone else and see how it pans for another couple of seasons. The best course of action now is to ride out the rest of the season with in house replacements and to clean house at the end and replace as many parts as necessary with a unified philosophy and vision. If Campbell shows enough to keep him around then we can build around his vision. If not, we bring in a GM, HC, OC and DC that believe in running the ball and defense.
Unconfirmed Speculation.. Kevin Coyle is gone Follow Simon Clancy@SiClancy Been told that defensive co-ordinator Kevin Coyle has also been fired. Waiting for confirmation.
That tweet was a while ago, I think. It hasn't been confirmed yet. What I've been reading is that Campbell has been given the authority to fire Coyle and that he is going to make the decision tomorrow.
awesome. two good moves by ross in a day and very timely. what has happened to you ross? are you finally getting it?
Follow Ian RapoportVerified account@RapSheet The expectation is that embattled defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle will head out the door with former #Dolphins coach Joe Philbin RETWEETS473 FAVORITES418 9:16 AM - 5 Oct 2015 Reply Retweet Favorite More
This thread is hysterical. Now I'm all for cutting ties with Coyle, but I'm laughing my AZZ off at all the posters who are posting "get Schwartz in here" "we need to hire Scwartz" etc. What makes any of you think Schwartz wants to step into this hot mess with an interim? Too funny.
i think swartz would be all over this.. suppose cambell tanks, swartz would have one foot in the door, especially if he turns the d around... its all about a job and moving up the ladder... if i was swartz i would have called ross at half time.... and btw, anybody who believes cambell has full authority over this decision is on drugs.... so the gm and the guy who steps on the gms toes dont have no say... if ross wants the dc gone but cambell wants him to stay what do you think will happen?
The thing with Swartz is that you can't change the D midseason, and no one knows who the HC will be next year yet, so no real need to bring him in if it wasn't to be IHC.
It's a win-win situation. He wouldn't be responsible for the defense from a coordinator standpoint, and he'd get paid VERY nicely I'm sure, as a sharpshooter consultant. The dude is widely known as a defensive guru and money talks. Not to mention he'd be able to stick it to the Bills...and you KNOW he likes sticking it to former teams (as in the Buff @ Det game last year). While you're at it, why wouldn't he?
Not to mention he has connections to Parcells via Belechik. Folks can laugh all they want, but Campbell was selected over the two coordinators...more than likely due to his connection to Parcells...it's not inconceivable that Schwartz isn't on the radar for a position in Miami.
