Oh yeah, it's definitely silly to overlook those two. If you're curious: 0-13 vs Cubs/Pirates, 3-4 vs Cards, and 4-3 vs Dodgers.
Looks like it - he's the type of guy you have to score off early - no runs by the 3rd and you're done. He did win me a fantasy championship, so i'm no hater!
If there was like 80 more games left of the season, the AL East would be in trouble with the way the Sox have been playing....
it definitely is a ton of ground to cover... my marlins in 2003 made it a goal win 2 of 3 games.. and they handled that goal very well after the allstar break and still couldn't catch up to the braves lol pretty sure we were 10 GB at the end of the season despite the effort.. 80 games sounds about right...
Actually if there was 2 or 3 more weeks in the season I could see the Sox getting one of those WC spots. Definitely gives you hope heading into 2016.
I think going forward for you guys is Hanley and Pablo, the team has been light out since they both left.....I feel like they bring the team down....
Defensively absolutely. Hanley was a disaster in LF and Sandoval had a rough time at 3rd. Offensively, if healthy, Hanley would have been fine as people forget he was lights out until he unfortunately he hurt his shoulder in early May and wasn't the same player afterwards because he kept playing through the pain instead of resting (which is kind of interesting considering he gets blasted for being a soft player who won't play hurt). I think the bigger issue of why the Sox have been so good in the 2nd half is the OF defense, young players like Betts, Bogaerts, Swihart and Bradley starting to hit, Ortiz got back on track and of course the SPing been much much better. With that being said I would be pretty surprised if both Sandoval and Hanley are on the team in April. Personally I'd try to dump Sandoval because it was just a bad idea signing him in the first place and I still believe in Hanley's bat. Should be a very fun and very interesting off season for the Sox.
Wait what? http://fullcount.weei.com/sports/bo...ie-bradley-whos-just-confused-by-whole-thing/ This is really freaking weird.
I haven't done a "Fun With Numbers" in awhile and found this comparson rather ummm "interesting": Player A - Player B Age 31 - 29 Games Played 109 - 130 Plate Appearances 492 - 539 At Bats 444 - 506 Hits 116 - 129 2B 15 - 29 3B 2 - 7 HR 7 - 11 RBI 33 - 56 SB 21 - 18 CS 9 - 6 BB 35 - 23 K 84 - 104 BA .261 - .255 OBP .322 - .289 SLG .351 - .405 OPS .678 - .694 OPS+ 87 - 85 So who's who?
Its from a few weeks ago, but a really good article about how unique the NL Central is this year. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on...-making-claim-as-best-division-in-mlb-history With the Cubs win today to sweep the Reds, they've gotten to 94 with three left to play, and have two more wins than any team outside of their division. They currently are "1.5 games up" on the Blue Jays, to look at it that way. Also of note is that since MLB split into six divisions, there has never been a 3rd place team with more than 92 wins, and that has now been clinched, of course, likely by the Cubs. Since divisional play began in 1969, the Cubs (or Pirates, should they get swept this weekend while the Cubs win out), are now already the owners of the second most wins by a 3rd place team, trailing only the 1977 Orioles and Red Sox, who tied for second with 97 that year. If the three teams combine to win 5 of their remaining 11 games, they'll have the most wins of a trio from one division in MLB history. We very well could have a one game playoff next Wednesday pitting the team with the second most wins in MLB vs the one with the 3rd most wins, with the winner going on to face the team with the most wins in the Divisional Round.
http://www.sportsonearth.com/article/151461306/wild-card-game-no-change-pirates-cubs I mostly agree with this article too. As a diehard fan of the team that's the most likely to get the short end of the stick in how the Postseason is set up, I'm totally opposed to changing how the system is setup in a knee jerk reaction to how things are working out. I'm 100% in favor of keeping three divisions in each league as well, though I would like to go back to some semblance of a balanced schedule. The thing is though, that the same thing could happen again in the next few years. The Cubs are fielding a team full of youngsters that are just learning to play at the MLB level, and are only going to get better for years to come, the Pirates are a young team who won't be losing many of their impact players soon, and the Cards are, well the Patriots of MLB. Whoever they put out there turns into an All Star seemingly.
Without looking real quick I am going to say Ellsbury and Betts..... Edit: Didn't see the age hahahaha, def not Betts,....
You wants Uncle Yank's advice on how to win the WC game? Switch Refsynder and Gardner batting order 2 and 9, bat Beltran 3rd and start Serverino....after that prepare for Toronto.... If you want to lose, don't do the above and start Tanaka.....
it wouldnt shock me at all if Girardi pitches both Tanaka and Severino. Unless the Yankees get an early lead on kuechel or garret richards (my guess on starting pitchers for houston or the angels). But if its a tight game theyre not going to relief pitching they will send the best they got.
Player A is Ellsbury this year. Player B is Carl Crawford in 2011 in his first year with the Sox. Not saying Ellsbury is going to fall off the cliff like Crawford did but those numbers are pretty similar and they have similar skill sets.
I'd go Ellsbury, Beltran, Arod with first 3 and move Gardner to the 9 hole. I'd start Tanaka in the play in game.
Jake Arrieta finishes the second half with a 0.75 ERA. Its like playing a video game on easy mode! If the Cubs hold on for the W, he finishes the season 22-6, 1.77 ERA, 229 IP, 236 K. And then there's this...I can't wait for the WC game next Wednesday!
Cubs also have this record now. Of course, they also struck out the most times in the NL themselves. They were in the top 5 in MLB in both catagories a lot in the early 2000s as well. Hopefully we can add David Price in the offseason and blow this record away in 2016.
I had no idea about this stat before tonight. As a fan of teams with their share of last place lately, it seems astonishing.
So the Mets got no hit by Scherzer... losing 5 in a row (1 run in last 3 games)... and looking like the Dodgers are gonna take home field. Mets headed into the postseason in proper Mets fashion.
Well, im thinking the Yankee's are toast, watching this last month has been so aggravating. They have no life in them in at all. Everyday they find a new way to lose. Betances looks like he cant find the strike zone, only guy hitting is Beltran and gramps cant carry everyone. They look dead. Was hoping the turn of the calendar would spark them, but they've looked like the same lifeless team for the last 2 months.
That was a ridiculous comeback by the Angels yesterday... I would pray for Astros if im a yankees fan lol
Now they get to hit against a guy who has shut them out in both starts this year... In the end, this is free baseball for me, they were picked to come in last place or 4th.....barely make it to .500 etc.....
Thank goodness for baseball. I'd never have guessed that the Cubs season would last longer than my hopes for the Fins season. At least one more game.
Only positive is that Keuchel is making the start on short rest for the 1st time in his life and the game is at YS. But the Yankees do look like an older tired team right now.
Here's some fantastical news C.C. Sabbathia checking himself into an alcohol rehab center this morning....I'm on my phone so no link at the moment. Check out my lhblogs.Yankees.com
That's interesting. Would partially explain his downward turn, I guess. Makes me wonder how much beer a huge man like that needs to keep up that kind of habit.
Wow that's pretty big news. I hope he gets the help he needs. He seems like a good guy, you hate to see that happen to anyone though.
Good Luck CC! You have to get yourself better, baseball is secondary. I dont expect much from the Yankees this post season! They gave me a season I was able to enjoy for the most part.
Oh ok. I don't follow the AL much aside from seeing highlights on MLB network. I knew that he hadn't pitched as well in recent seasons as he had in the past.
