• Tier 1 quarterbacks can carry their teams week after week and contend for championships without as much help.(Brady/Rodgers/Manning) • Tier 2 QBs are less consistent and need more help, but good enough to figure prominently into a championship equation. (Rothlisberger/Brees/Romo) • Tier 3 are quarterbacks who are good enough to start but need lots of support, making it tougher to contend at the highest level.(???) • Tier 4 is typically reserved for unproven starters or those who might not be expected to last in the lineup all season. (???) I would put him in the 3rd one along with Cam Newton, Kolin Kapernick and Andy Dalton.
So, Tier 2 includes guys with rings, including (presumably) Russell Wilson? Tiers 1 and 2 are small. As defined, RT doesn't belong in the same category with the Tier 2's cited. I think about these QB questions differently. I think it's easier to split the league into quartiles. No particular order and some wiggle room. Top quartile: Rodgers, Brady, Luck, Manning, Roethlisberger, Wilson, Brees, Rivers 2nd: Romo, Flacco, Eli, Ryan, Stafford, Newton, *** insert any of: Kap / RT / Cutler / Carr *** I think that's where he is right now - middle of the road. I'd take RT over Cutler or Kap, but I'd drop him for a chance at Carr (and maybe Bridgewater), guys who probably have a higher ceiling. Call me crazy.
Good game today, but let's be honest. What part of "figure prominently in a championship equation" have we seen?
Tier 3. He's nowhere close to being in the same tier as Big Ben. You gotta be the biggest homer to lump him in with a Big Ben and Brees.
honestly roethslisberger and rodgers and maybe newton are the only qbs there who can play somewhat effectively with a poor offensive line. all the other QBs look like **** when they face a pass rush like tanny faced today
If he could throw touch pass or step up in a must win game and carry team to victory he would be a 2. For now he is a 3.Its laughable to put him in with Bree's and Ben.
Clearly three, but sometimes a 2. Though he often looks solid/has decent stats, his play will often leave things on the field that are missed. I would rank him somewhere in the 10-15 range atm. A 1 or high 2 would score more than 10 on Washington and 20 on the Jags. Sorry, you can blame everyone else if you want, but 17 hasn't been stellar.
Tier 3.5...he's honestly barely start-worthy at this point. And the funny thing is that the "Let Moore Start" conversation began a year ago after a similar 1-1 start- a statistically good game where Ryan performed poorly (but we won), then a completely lethargic week 2. It's like reading a book the second time.
For being supposedly such a great athlete, RT makes very few athletic plays. Moves nothing like Rodgers and has zero anticipation of what's about to happen around him. Don't get it.
Tier 3 and it isn't even hard to make that decision based on the criteria you established. He is a middle of the pack NFL QB at this time and only time will tell if he can ever get to Tier 2. I never see him getting close to being a Tier 1 QB in the NFL.
Somewhere between 2 and 3. He's not the problem but he isn't good enough to carry a team like elite QB's.
He doesn't have the instincts that you need to play the QB position at a high level. He doesn't see the field or feel pressure in the pocket.
Folks, Tannehill had a 108 rating and an 8.2 YPA today. That wins 90+ percent of games in the NFL. Look elsewhere for your scapegoat.
Wilson played quite effectively the past two seasons with an offensive line which was one of the worst in the league when it came to providing pass protection.
He's a guy that will get you 360 yards when 390 will win the game. It's not his fault usually when the teams lose, but he doesn't cover for mistakes or bad unit performances.
This was his least dink and dunk game since he's gotten here probably. We completed some pretty sizable pass plays to Matthews, Landry, and Cameron. Add to that, Lazor called a pretty poor game IMO.
Inflation of stats via dinking and dunking isn't consistent with an 8.2 YPA. An 8.2 YPA on a season-long basis would've put Tannehill 3rd in the league last year.
Points are what matter and two games he has led us to 15 pt average. We need to be around 25.The qb gets all the glory and on the flip side the blame. He needs to get better at scoring 6 to be elite.
Ratings mean absolutely nothing if you can't lead your team to more than two TD's against one of the worst defenses in the league. Also Tannehill has now gone two games in a row where the offense has failed to score a single point in the 4th quarter. I couldn't care less about a quarterback ratings. I only care if that QB can put the team on his shoulders and lead the team to victory in the fourth quarter of games like today. When the game is on the line and he needs to lead his offense on a drive to win the game. Tannehill has consistently shown over the past three plus years that he doesn't have the ability to lead his team to victory in these circumstances. Today he once again failed to get the job done with the game on the line.
I don't think you'll find many points being associated with teams whose offenses are imbalanced to the tune of 70% pass plays, as has the Dolphins' offense been through the first two games this year.
If I ever see Lazor call another sweep from the shotgun I'm going to throw up. This is the NFL not Texas Tech!
To answer it's tier 3, so he's in the company with Newton, Dalton, Flacco (who has a ring), Matt Ryan, Alex Smith..... Tier 4 would be guys like Manziel, Carr, Bortles, Cousins, Winston, Mariotta. Of course all this is subject to change over time.
Such a profound lack of basic football knowledge around here. Wow. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Simple math.Brady is a winner.Tannehill hasnt proven he is.Hopefully that changes but right now its the sad truth.
Pumpdogs, You and I both know that there are a lot of teams with unbalanced attacks which win games. It is a passing league now and most of the better teams win with the passing game. Tannephins obviously is just trying to make excuses for why Tannehill consistently failed to get the job done in the 4th quarter of close games.
Yea dude I always seem to agree with you but damm why can't we be wrong for once.I wanted to win badly and always jump on the bandwagon before I watch the first game and then the cold reality of this team punches me in the face by week 2 or 3.It sucks!! I also believed all the hype about tannehill even in fantasy he was going to take the next step to be a true elite qb.Guess what I see the same damm weakness he has had for the last 3 years. No long ball,no touch throws, and can't lift the team on his shoulders even against a bad team and lead them to victory. At least I am not blind like these other fans. Very disapointed!!!
