All the posts from the negativity-feeding sloths about how others are making "adjustments" or "softening" are a bit lame. Not ONE poster has said they're totally happy with the play and the game, yet you'd think we have people running around here saying we played a stellar game; everybody expected and wanted better, and some are happy with the win in spite of all the poor play. Some would obviously rather we'd gotten blown out so they could grandstand their negativity with more meaning. Maybe next week guys, there's always hope! In the meantime, change your tampons.
After losing $2 million by banking on these idiots, and thanks for not letting Devante play, morons, I am ready to admit the Dolphins are not a good team for DFS. That said, we pummel Jax. 34-10. But I will not start a Dolphin....except maybe the D. Probably not even them. Maybe.
More like some of us don't want to see slow starts anymore and continued bunglings vs. bad opponents. Seriously it's like a feedback loop of the same conversations that were had the previous 10-15 years. It just happens to be that your tolerance for mediocrity is much higher than the normal human being. Must be a pervasive life issue. P.S. I'll be back here to give credit IF credit is due. No softeners.
No doubt. That's typically how I go about it. I'm rolling the dice big time though because my only backup is Arian Foster - whom I'm waiting to come back from injury.
But do you really think every team we play is going to miss a FG under 50 yards and have 11 penalties, all while losing one of its most impactful playmakers in the first few minutes of the game? I agree the defense did a good job overall, but the Redskins offense (which isn't great to begin with) shot itself in the foot a number of times as well.
We don't do that here. We only spin the Dolphins narrative ...... completely forgetting all the facts you described above. I forgot about D-Jack too. That was a big loss to their offense and if the play he was hurt on was any indication of the kind of day we were in for - we got lucky. I'm sure their playcalling changed considerably. It would have been pick your poison between he and Jordan Reed.
I'm usually very optimistic but this game made me feel like we are not the team many of us thought we were. Granted, it was just one game and the first of the season... we'll see how the team responds in the next few weeks.
Remember when we came out under Saban and kicked the crap out of...who was it...Denver I think, week one? We played fairly poorly but I have trouble taking week one too seriously when its the first REAL extended playing time in over a year and there is minimal scouting comparatively to other games. If the trend continues I will worry. However I fully expect we beat the Jags by at least ten points and everyone feels a tad bit better.
I don't have a tolerance for mediocrity in my life (I'm rather successful, due to high morals and standards), which has not a single thing to do with an organization I have ZERO control over...I'm not an invalid megalomaniac.
Dan Marino led teams played some clunkers. Jay Fielder led teams played some great games. Let's not lose our minds after a Week 1 WIN.
Amen. The primary reaction as a fan should be happiness about the result. Talking about the inner happenings of the game is all secondary to wins and losses. Yet some want to scream and yell that we didn't play good enough and completely ignore the only thing that really matters, which is the result. Again, absolutely nothing wrong with discussing the poor run D or the lackluster offense, but we did win. I'm not even concerned about the struggles. It's only been one game. Remember that even the best teams have to grind out wins in tough games sometimes. Stop overreacting.
homer harry's ? because guys in here rather take the 1-0 record and give this team some more time to gel or these downers who put everything in question because we didn't dominate a redskins team on the road in the season opener ? jesus christ i already saw you thinking about trading lamar miller after week 1...
Rock, it's not being a homer. No one here is saying we played flawless football. You are arguing something no one else is arguing against.
I never said I'd do it. I said it was an urge, but I'm waiting until the bye. Why did I get that urge though? Because once again we didn't give him enough carries. He had 13 total after averaging a whopping 15-16 last year. That's called a "trend" regardless of year. Thankfully I've got Carlos Hyde going so I'm less nervous about that position for the moment. The criticisms or skepticism are not happening in a vacuum. That's the issue here. It's not like Packer fans last year worrying their hearts out at the beginning of the year during the team's struggles. That team DESERVED the benefit of the doubt and rightfully Aaron Rodgers put them in their place by telling them to chill. This team, this coaching stuff - they haven't earned the right to be above the concern. By being concerned it doesn't mean anyone's waved the towel so let's not suggest the extreme here.
There is not a single fan clamoring for flawless football. That's the bait and switch argument. What the disappointment arises from is the struggle to put away a team we should be pushing around and watching their QB not live up to the hype drummed up in the preseason both by play and in the media. I don't count myself as one of those people though - I'll always be skeptical until my criteria of consistency is met in big games with playoffs on the line and hopefully how he fares in the playoffs.
i hate me right now for picking Latavius Murray over Hyde...what the **** i was thinking, had them both sitting there and went with Murray
Honestly, I had no idea this was coming. I was nervous as hell because I hate the 49'ers offense .... but when I looked around, he was the only bell cow back left on the board. If Arian Foster heals up, then I might actually have a decent stable. Won't hold my breath though. LOL Murray didn't have that bad a game all things considered with almost 80 all purpose yards and was very active in the passing game ..... but they got their doors blown off early.
still, i was feeling uncomfortable with that choice right after i made it, murray had 80 yards yesterday because of the blowout, which might happen a lot, but still not taking hyde with that frisco oline, clearly a brain fart on my part
Was at the game last year and will be going to the game on Sunday. We beat them by 14 last year. Obviously our defense won the game with two pick 6's, but I won't be expecting anything less. I won't watch or go to another Miami game this year if we don't win by 14. Hell, we beat the Chargers 37-0 last year and we are supposed to be better this year. In other news I hope Jacksonville makes a 40+ yarder so I can get my free sub I don't know about you guys but I feel like in the first half of the Washington game the run blocking was superb for them. I just don't see the run-block as good for J-ville.
Wait, you're saying you won't watch another Dolphins game if they don't beat Jacksonville by 14 or more points? Hope that's hyperbole.
But, but, but he's a bully! I still shake my head at all the clowns who wanted this guy gone considering the void at guard. It would be one less worry for us along that line.
Not too mention pretty much every Dolphin in 2013 was vocal about their support for Incognito and not Martin during the incident.
I wanted him gone before the crap that went down. After it went down. Still now. Hate the guy. Glad he's gone.
Richie is much better in a power/man blocking scheme. He's not a mobile or zone blocking type. Plus, PFF doesn't grade on competition. Can anyone name a DT for the Colts?
All that matter is "the organization/team" wanted him gone. What anybody here wanted doesn't matter...but you can't tell Captain Megalo that.
Not every team will have a DeSean Jackson, period. And let's remember Kirk Cousins overthrew that ball uncatchable. So if you're going to make a talent-relative-to-self argument, that must be accounted for. I see nothing in the amount of penalties that were six sigma out of the ordinary. Or even three sigma. Or one sigma, for that matter. And yes, teams miss 46 yard kicks. With regularity. Just this week alone there were 7 missed field goals from 40 to 49 yards. Percentage probably even higher at 46 to 49 yards. If you don't think that happens then you're going to be pretty unhappy when Franks misses quite a few himself.
You mean the national attention that was an overblown witch hunt. Nobody cares anymore. Martin showed himself to be mentally "ill" equipped to be in an NFL locker room and Richie's back to playing well. Captain Kangeroo ..... who's "they"? I think you meant Stephen Ross after over-reacting. Most of his teammates gave their support.
Look, I know the defense played well, I'm just hesitant to say they put on as spectacular a perfomance as you're alluding to... we all know this defense is capable of playing better than what was shown on the field Sunday, forget the the stats. Is it that bad to hold them to a higher standard that we all know they are capable of? It was the first game and we will get better, IMO, but I won't shower them with praise yet until they show it can be repeated against tougher opponents who most likely won't shoot themselves in the foot as much as Washington did.
Just compiled the stats on penalties for each game in 2014 by all teams. The average # of penalties per team per game across the league in 2014 was 6.6 with a 2.66 std, so 11 turnovers is 1.65 sigma away from the mean. Since the distribution is skewed a bit, it's better to just look at the percentage of games that had 10 or fewer turnovers last year rather than using std's. It turns out to be 91%. So an 11 turnover (or more) game, based on 2014 stats, is expected to occur 9% of the time.
I agree but it's the same story across the league. It has to be a (stupid!) deliberate decision by the NFL to not call those.
