Nothing earth shattering. LaMike James is the returner. Koa Misi moves back to SAM with Sheppard in the middle. Jamil Douglas wins starting RG spot.
My guess on the 7 inactive players this Sunday. 1. Neville Hewitt 2. Tony Lippett 3. AJ Francis 4. Matt Hazel 5. Logan Thomas 6. Zach Virgil 7. Bobby McCain
Brice McCain is in the starting spot but I think Jamar Taylor regains that spot when he comes back from his injury. Then McCain will take the nickel spot.
Inactives for Sunday: Logan Thomas Matt Hazel Billy Turner Jeff Linkenbach A.J. Francis Neville Hewitt Tony Lippett
What if someone on the line goes down.. you'd only have Fox (coming back from a concussion) and McClendon? I wouldn't expect both of them to be inactive.
Stills was smooth and quick in his brief showing against carolina, maybe thats what we'll see come sunday, and what hes displaying in practice, looked in rhythm in carolina, but Matthews cant be happy with it...
I think Miami's traditionally only kept 7 linemen active on game days. McClendon has played both guard spots and center during this preseason, and as long as Fox is cleared (which I forgot about during my post), he's a swing tackle.
Tannehill is the starting QB? That guy sucks! If you disagree, feel free to argue with me about it here, in this thread.
Brice McCain over Jamar Taylor is significant because it means the job is now Brice's to lose. That's the thing that comes to mind when I see a prediction that Jamar Taylor reclaims the job as soon as he's healthy. First off I think Taylor is fully healthy at the moment and he still doesn't have the job, second the fact that Brice is getting all of the base snaps plus the nickel snaps means that it's not up to Jamar Taylor to unseat him but rather it's up to Brice McCain to hang onto the job. I think it would be rare to find yourself in a situation where a guy that comes onto the field in nickel situations on the boundary plays so obviously well that he takes the starting job over the guy in front of him. One interception isn't going to do it, and that's a position where you get four interceptions in a GOOD year. If Taylor is going to get the job back it's going to have to be because Brice McCain stumbles and allows some big plays. And if that happens, I don't know if that's a good thing. We may lose a game we shouldn't have in that scenario. Judging by the pure quality at that position, taking aside any efforts I've made to evaluate the players, I suspect this is a situation where both players could at various points play themselves out of the starting job, either resulting in kind of a rotation or the eventual promotion of a rookie like Bobby McCain to see what he has to offer. I like Brice McCain. He was a guy I'd have targeted as a low-priced free agent, and I said that before his name was linked with Miami's. I don't know if I like that Brice McCain has gone from low-priced free agent to full time starter here. That may be reaching a bit above his pay grade. We will see.
Stills starting ahead of Matthews. No idea why people are surprised by this. Stills is a proven deep threat, ran a 4.38 at the combine, Matthews a 4.62. Stills been putting up numbers for his new contract for two years. Matthews for part of one preseason. Any idea how many snaps the 2nd corner would get in a season and how many snaps the nickel corner would get in a season? I'm wondering if it is a significantly different number.
Now we know why L'Michael James was kept so tenaciously on the roster, he replaced Jarvis Landry at the Returner slot, Landry had a all time Rookie type yr w/1,900 yds. James has some big shoes to fill
i think Hewitt is active, they really like him on Special Teams, thats just my guess, if Fox is ready, Linkenbach would be the guy i would put there
My guess... 1. Neville Hewitt 2. Tony Lippett 3. Logan Thomas 4. Will Davis 5. Jeff Linkenbach 6. AJ Francis 7. Billy Turner
Will Davis is ahead of Bobby McCain on the depth chart. Plus overall played much better than Bobby McCain overall.
I dont trust the secondary and im not feeling the linebacker group either.. Grimes and Jones is the only two we know what we are getting.. but whatever, washingtons offensive line is so bad that suh and wake will be able to bail them out..
Not overly shocking since it was brought up in the last week or so, but it always seemed like Douglas was only competing with Dallas Thomas for the the LG spot. I don't remember hearing much about him in camp or OTA's at RG, doesn't bode well for Billy Turner for sure who most of us, I believe, considered a shoe in for the starting spot. Chris McCain is the player I'm a little disappointed in, I fully expected him to win a starting spot.
