I'm just gonna leave this right here. Somebody get it into the Dolphins locker room please.

The DB's are definitely a concern....Good luck getting a pass off without at least some above average pressure from this defensive line though.
There are ways around that in today's NFL though. Spreading out a defense, while in a shotgun formation and running plays with quick routes can help negate a great defensive line. Heck, we employ that in Miami with Tannehill and his ineffective hogs, upfront. What needs to happen is for the defensive backfield to establish itself early and force the offense to think twice, or even adjust their game plan accordingly, which plays right into the strength of this defense. If they have the talent to do that, then Miami should be fine. If not...then we will be relying on our offense to bail out the defense.
Well, he isn't really wrong. Lucky for us we have an all-world defensive line who will make the DB's jobs a bit easier.
Sure, but that helps the secondary too. As long as we have sure tackles in the back end, let opponents run all the quick screens they want.
Quick routes can be effective to deal with a pass rush. I remember the Texans using a similar strategy on us in 2003. That home opener sucked but I digress. If this defensive line is as good as advertised, no quick route spread offense will be able to move the ball on them. Think of it this way: If you spread Miami out, you're betting that the offensive line can 1) Double up Suh with no disruption. 2) Wake, Vernon, Mitchell won't beat a 1 on 1. My money is on Miami's defensive line beating that type of offense.
He's wrong about Grimes and Jones. Which boils his whole tweet down to 'target McCain'. Even if he weren't wrong, and he is, this still should be up in the locker room.
Evan is good people. I've known him for years. He can hold a grudge, though. But the biggest grudge I know him to have is not one anyone here would mind, and that's against Omar Kelly. He's not totally wrong here. Take yourself out of your Miami Dolphin shoes for a minute and put yourself in the shoes of an offensive coach about to play Miami. Yes, you see Ndamukong Suh and Cam Wake and you're like...****. I do NOT want to mess with those guys all game long. But you're also staring at quite literally the oldest corner in the NFL (Grimes is 32 years old and is also a mere 5'9" and 180 lbs). You're seeing the guy opposite him is 5'9" and 185 lbs, thus far a career slot/nickel corner who has really struggled in the NFL more seasons than not. You're seeing Reshad Jones as a big play-maker but definitely more of a force, come up into the box player. Then you're seeing Walt Aikens, who makes a lot of mistakes on what tape there is of him, is a second year player out of LIBERTY, and spent his entire first year in the coaches' doghouse because of lack of professionalism. You see all that and you're going to tell me that isn't the first thing you point to in the game planning process and say, we need to take advantage of this? I sure as hell would. And one way to do it, which will tie in with a weakness that Rex Ryan split wide open on us a year ago, would be to get the ball out to the perimeter of the field on runs and screens and really force those tiny (and in Grimes' case, old) corners to play physical and stick themselves into blocks to get to the ball. Even if they succeed, those are body blows and you're going to wear them out during games. Later in the game you're throwing passes to big bodied players (Sammy Watkins, Charles Clay, Allen Robinson, Dorial Green-Beckham, Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker), and if you've worn those tiny f-ckers out then you could score some big plays off them. This of course has the dual benefit of making guys like Ndamukong Suh and Cameron Wake chase the ball laterally all day long rather than teeing off on you. This is so predictable that Miami should be prepping for this. Which makes the decision to start Brice McCain over Jamar Taylor all the more interesting because Jamar is bigger than Brice and what little he's been able to demonstrate well on the field has been in exactly this sort of capacity, coming up and being a good force player. Then again he can't stay healthy, much like Dimitri Patterson and Cortland Finnegan before him. Which is probably not completely coincidental.
Exactly. I'm not sure what the issue with Silva's comments are here. It's pretty spot on, our secondary... stinks. We're banking on big pressure from the DL to speed things up so the DB's dont have to spend so much time in coverage.
At first it was from afar, much like most of the people on this forum and other forums. He just doesn't like how Omar presents himself. Evan's gone on to me before about how disgusting it is seeing Omar talk about his sex life in public and stuff like that. But I think it got to be more than that at various points as Omar doesn't particularly respect the Rotoworld people and has made some statements to that effect and in turn the Rotoworld people have begun trashing Omar whenever they have ample reason and opportunity.
Basically, two proven guys, thee unproven guys, unknown depth outside of Zack Bowman. Walt Aiken is essentially a Rookie Safety
Not necessarily. It's a widely known fact that the play of aCB or football player n general drops of at that age. So to reference Grimes as such is relevant. With respect to Jones though, there's not much that isn't true with that assessment either. He's great at coming into the box and run stuffing. That's his role. Sure they left out the fact he's not bad in coverage, but I don't think it's a huge deal. I think some people just need to come to terms with the fact that while our DL is beyond elite, our secondary of the opposite. We're hoping the DLs rush will negate some of the shortcomings in the secondary, Sent from my SM-G900W8 using Tapatalk
Exactly! The statements aren't inaccurate, but they imply that's all they are and that implication is not accurate. They are also pro bowl level players who are arguably top 5 at their positions.
He's right though, our DB's have got to step it up. Guys like Taylor and Will Davis need to somehow find a way to emerge. I am not sold on McCain either.
Ask yourself, what unit on what team doesn't have to step it up? Saying X unit needs to step it up is like saying Team Y needs to score more than Team Z to win.
Good luck testing that secondary with a pocket passer. Id be screening, dinking and dunking this defense, testing shepard, Misi. Revis is hardly younger than Grimes FYI.... The narrative on that journeyman is surely much different. Jones is more of a ballhawk than a liability in coverage. I still like how our weaknesses on D compare to the other 31.
Is there a way to block this troll where I can't see his posts anymore? my IQ drops just by seeing his screen name....
- Left click on the posters name in one their posts. - Then click "View Portfolio" in the small window that opens. - Once at their portfolio page, third option under their avatar, click "Add To Ignore List".
Our secondary is a concern but nothung huge yet. As others have mentioned, our dline is great. Qbs won't be getting 6 solid seconds back there. And if they do quick spread ****, bring it. Thats essentially the easiest stuff for a secondary to cover. And finally, let's see the guys play first. Aikens might be a great safety. Taylor and McCain might be good.
Grimes got smoked the last half of last year. His skill and ability were never in question. It's his age and legs.
man JD, I think your waaay off on this one..imo brent grimes has not lost a step.. darrell green...charles woodson...Champ bailey... Brent grimes is every bit as good as athlete as those players.
No they don't. I mean haven't you heard that other teams have CBs that never get beat, QBs that complete every deep ball, olines full of star talent signed as UDFAs, coaches who never get conservative and GMs that hit on 90%+ of their picks?
jut being honest I really feel like the number is controlling the opinion.. when you see actual evidence of incredible athleticism within the last year its a good sign...
it's one thing to get beat. But his play in the first half was good and then fell off. It's something to be wary of, that's all. Passer rating of 84.8 and 7 TDs is not that great right? He tailed off in week 10 which could be due to a few things. One of them, perhaps, is fatigue. Or it could just be the whole secondary breaking down and failing at the end. We will see real shortly won't we.
