I know a lot of people complain that conversations like this infect every other thread. So here we can have all Tannehill discussions without hurting other threads. This is not meant to be a rant thread. It really is a legit attempt to have a place where all the arguments can be sent so posters can avoid or engage. First up....the whole lack of leadership complaint that many posters are upset about. Greg Jennings may have a different take...... http://www.nytimes.com/2015/09/06/sports/football/afc-east-teams-on-a-quest-to-dethrone-the-patriots.html?_r=0
Intent may be good.. but you don't seriously think Tannehill debates won't pop up in other threads even if this one gets going do you? The guy's our QB and is probably going to figure in a ton of discussions, and you know how some of those discussions take a life of their own
I think settled is a good word. He doesn't seem to be rattled or overwhelmed. I understand that this is only preseason, but I think something like that does transfer into the regular season. I believe he is more focused and more confident which I think was already mentioned before. The arrow is definitely pointing up for Tannehill. I'm expecting a great season from him this year.
I think they will crop up, but I also think the mods now have a place to move the arguments to....if they are so inclined.
Wow I love how you gave him extra yards. I wish he had 4700 yards. He had only 4045 though. I'd like to see that this year but with more TDs and less INTs.
Sucked in 2012, but showed signs. Better in 2013, flashed some nice arm talent, showed some serious grit taking all those sacks and not missing a game. Somewhat broke-out in 2014, after about a 3-game, painful adjustment to the new system in live action. Made a lot of great reads, several gorgeous passes, ran well, and grew more into his leadership role. 2015, something crazy happened. He no longer followed up a good practice with 1 or 2 bad ones. He connected with his receivers on more deep balls in one or two practices than he did in the previous 3 camps. He's carried himself with confidence, little bit of a swagger, and is obviously feeling much more comfortable behind center. Many analysts/experts are saying his footwork is noticeably improved. He's shown (at least in this pre-season) that he can alter the snap count and cause DL penalties, and he shifted around the pocket a good bit as well. The lowest I've seen even his most vocal critics rank him is around 16...which is still at least average. He most certainly doesn't "suck." I expect he'll continue to grow into the role/position and we'll have our franchise QB for at least a decade.
Yeah, most important thing to point out in any Tannehill debate is his steady improvement, seen both through "eyeballs" and through stats. He still has a few more improvements left in him IMO to become a very good QB: better pocket awareness, faster decision-making (esp. for 2-minute offense), and consistency.
FinD didn't forget those ridiculous threads from last season either.... at least when there's an attempt to propagate the conclusion they've jumped to, (fans*) won't all make their own special topics about it.
In case anyone's interested.. what Sumlit did there was give another example of what's called Russell's paradox (probably the first one in history that was Miami Dolphins related!). It was a huge event in the history of logic (in 1901) because it showed that the (hitherto) intuitive notion of acceptable ways of constructing "sets" (e.g. a "set" of numbers, or for that matter any kind of objects) led to logical paradoxes. It was eventually resolved with more carefully thought out rules for constructing sets.
Not sure if I can post in this thread because I fall in the grey area with Tannehill. Doesn't suck, but hasn't shown he's capable of consistently winning games in the 4th quarter or the end of the season when the playoffs are within reach.
I'm sorry, did we win the Super Bowl last season? Or did Tannehill take league MVP? Or get an invite to a Pro Bowl? Or even finish in the top 20 quarterbacks overall? Then again, let's go with the most telling stat of them all- What's Tannehill's starting record for the month of December? THOSE are the kinds of things that shows a franchise quarterback. Most people here can see Tannehill's potential and they're excited for the new season and what he can become. But it's statements like that above...throwing blind praise and demanding that everyone apologize for not believing it all along...that makes people choose the other side of the fence. And forgive people for not annointing tannehill over 41 passes in pre-season- Chad Henne had a better statistical preseason 4 years ago and look how that turned out.
Yay. The win/loss argument. So pointless. And which categories are you wondering about top 20? Cause he hit that in some categories.
I would pose this question: Is Tannehill better than the best QB Miami(Guess who?) has had since Marino? If the answer is yes, which of course it is, then he doesn't suck.
You'd be lucky to find 2 posters around here who says "he sucks"...unless its a 20 post troll. Thread should read, The Official Tannehill is already great or he is just a good young ascending QB debate...that's what all the other threads turn into eventually. The title itself looks like a strawman Finheaven topic. But carry on.
No way in hell would I be rooting for a thread with so much potential laughter to be closed. I love this thread, it's SOOO beneficial to all.
As I've said the only point of this thread is to be repository for Tannehill arguments so they don't muck up other threads. As in mods can take arguments out of other threads and put them here.
