D-bag is exactly right. What a prick that guy is; all he's out for is an extortionist cut of the revenue. As if he didn't make enough selling the Eagles.

    Back in Miami
    Retractable roof.
Those are the only dome stadiums I like.
You get the best of both worlds available to you.

    Very nice.

Will probably never happen but very nice nonetheless.
I'd much rather see it built bayfront next to AA Arena on that unused tract of land but that's really pushing it.

Oh, the final stadium plans are confirmed to be a retractable roof. The Marlins wanted that all along, and it was never in doubt.

They did want a downtown Miami location like the Triple-A, but the City of Miami refused. Marlins Field--or whatever its final name is, they may sell the naming rights--will be on the Orange Bowl site. I'd have preferred something closer to a highway, but this isn't bad either.

Plans are being worked on as I type. They would have been revealed by now but the lawsuit is holding that up. Everything is on delay now.

What ? You are joking right ?

Treanor is already 32 years old. Skipworth, the drafted prospect is at least 4 and most likely 5 years away from MLB ready. Treanor is already a defensive liability (his throwout % of 19% the last I heard was last in the majors) and his bat has only been hitting .172 the last 10 games. He has 2 HR's and only 18 RBI's. Those are pathetic numbers.

Trust me on this, Treanor will be nowhere near this team as the starter behind the plate next year. Look at what they did last off-season in trading for Mike Rabelo. That didn't work out so this season (if we don't get someone today, we will be getting a MLB ready catcher to bridge the gap till Skipworth is ready.

I didn't say Treanor is great. I said I don't have a problem with him as a stopgap. We're competing for first place with and despite his presence, which tells me there are bigger worries at the moment. Should we upgrade from Treanor if possible? Yeah, absolutely. But if you give me a choice between upgrading CF and upgrading C, I'm going with CF at the moment.

I would rather upgrade C. Come a playoff drive, we need a catcher desparately, and an upgrade defensively more than for his bat. 19% throwouts is not good enough for me. Baker has been adaquate but not spectacular. They are in a real bind because of the way Beinfest drafts (and he is not a really good drafter). His pitching, pitching, pitching and more pitching philosophy kills us when we need position players. We never develop good ones and we always have to overpay in trades to get them.

Just analyze his drafts regarding position players. Its not very good. Hermida, has yet to really blossom and it looks like we are ready to deal him. His 3rd base prospect from last year, Matt Dominguez has struggled, and now Skipworth, who is still years away from the big show.

Arthur Rhodes is a head case whos best years are behind him. Unfortunately they had to make a move for a second lefty for the late innings due to the troubles of Taylor Tankersley.

He actually got ejected last night. This looks like a very desperate move.

Manny has agreed to a trade to the Marlins, compensation to be determined. Its reported the Marlins are driving a hard bargain, and that might kill the deal.

Yeah and it may kill the deal. Beinfest is asking for Manny, $ 9,000,000 two prospects and Hermida to go to the Pirates and their two top prospects to go the Red Sox.

You guys keep saying just a two month rental, but it's not. Manny is a Type A free agent. If we decline his team option and offer him salary arbitration, after he declines, we are eligible for two first round picks as compensation. Those two picks will replace whatever prospects we lose.

The money Hermida would have gotten in arbitration can now go towards keeping Uggla, Ross, JJ, Olsen or Nolasco who otherwise might not have stayed. Plus, it opens up a spot next year for Maybin.

    Do this trade.

    See you in October.

ESPN news has said that the Marlins know that the Red Sox are desparate to get rid of Manny and the Marlins are driving the bargain hard. The Red Sox are resentful because they think we stole Ramierz from them ( we only gave up Beckett and Lowell ).

Who knows what happens !!!! Exciting day.....keep watching ESPN News they are having their Trade Special on.

This is all true, I just don't know if Manny will be happy as a Marlin, and his disruptive behavior could be a cancer in the clubhouse. That we don't need.

You're still losing a little bit though considering you have to sign those draft picks. Signing bonuses can be pretty lofty these days. That doesnt near 20M of course, but its not as big of savings as some may think.

Also, you're adding another poor defensive, home run hitter to an already poor defensive, home run hitting team. You really think Manny is what puts this team over the edge? Will he run out ground balls and be a team player? Or the guy who says his knee hurts before a big series against the Mets?

Thanks for the updates man. I think this deal is a no-brainer for the Fish. When you have a chance to go for it, you go for it. For all their faults, Loria and Sampson always seemed to udnerstand this.

Absolutely. Money talks. All he needs to do is shut up for two-three months. Hit the snot out of the ball. And cash his fat check this winter.

You can bet he will play his butt off to stick it to the Sox.

Still 2 hours to go. Lots of dead deals get miraculously ressurected when the parties are sufficiently motivated

He's a rental, no doubt, but Milwaukee didn't flinch when giving up a better prospect than Hermida for Sabathia, knowing he's a rental. When you have a chance to go for it in baseball, you take it. Espescially for a team like the Marlins who are constatntly rebuilding and these chances only come up once every 5 years or so

Exactly, and at the end of the day, I think more and more MLB GM's are placing greater value on the Type A FA rental to get those 2 draft picks compared to holding onto once viewed prospects.

The gamble seems to be on the "unproven unknown" vs. the "unproven or semi-proven known" type.

ESPN News has made three reports today in this order:

    1. Close to completion
    2. Close to dead
    3. Now somewhere "in between"

I dont think so. Rod Sox want Bay, Pirates want to make up for getting hammered in the Nady trade. Marlins arent budging.
