This argument is the worst argument. It is not like cutting the old guy for the new guy hasn't never worked in the past.
Carp has also been a better kicker for the Bills than he was for the Dolphins, except for one season.
Sorry if my statements offends you. I just happen to think that Fields, when not dealing with injuries is one of the best punters in the NFL. I also stated that I realize this is a cost cutting move on the part of the Dolphins and I can live with that. Damn, the fact I happen to like Fields and don't think his replacement will have as good a season as Fields,is simply my opinion. It certainly doesn't mean I will end up being right. Because I am the first to admit that I have been wrong about a lot of things on this forum over the last several years. Yet I still thought this was a place where everyone was entitled to their own opinion. As far as your comment that that young players constantly replace older players who were cut. I certainly realize this, but my comments in this case were merely my reaction to a player who I still feel can be one of the top players at his position in the entire league.
It doesn't offend me. Just poor a argument. Then there is no reason to even bring up Carpenter. Your opinion is perfectly fine and apt without it. Still I lost faith in Fields last season. Even after he was no longer injured he still shanked some important punts. His shank was one of the comedy of errors that allowed the Packers to win.
It won't be very long before Fields is picked up. I haven't scoured the net, but I wouldn't be surprised if it already happened.

Whatever they're saying in public, I'm still going to think $$ was an issue (not the only one of course). Having cap space, especially next year, is an asset and there's no way a GM doesn't think of that.
Can recall the thread that ranked us near the bottom in ST efficiency, IIRC due to the number of kick off returned (touchback percentage) avg starting field position when punting, and kick off coverage. Believe that was tucked in the Dolphins Mediocrity thread. IE, Fields, Sturgis and kick off coverage team
Sometimes you need guys like this on the team. Veteran leadership is important and if the only difference is a few $$$ I would say keep the vets when on the field is equal.
I agree, though it seems like Darr has simply outperformed him. It's business unfortunately. Brandon is still valuable though. I'm sure he'll land a job in no time.
This makes me more sad than I thought it would. I guess because he's been a Dolphin for so long and was one of the best at his position. Stand up guy. God speed, Mr. Fields.
They would have had to cut Fields next year and maybe Darr was better than Fields in camp or maybe he was a lot better than the guy they could have expected to bring to replace him next year, either way Fields was making way too much $ for a punter
That's so crazy he fell off so fast. He was one of the best punters in the league. Reminds me of Olindo Mare. He just fell off one season and never got his kicking game back. Sad Respect + Appreciation Fields. And Darr looks good as well as Franks 52 yd FG in the rain. They need to cut Sturgis next. I'd rather go into the season with the rookies doing our kicking, they look good.
we cut our mvp the last 8 seasons.. edit: I wish him well, he will find a job somewhere, hopefully not in our division, but somewhere else. He's been a very good special teams player for us. Thanks for everything Fields!
Patriots Ryan Allen he popped a 64 yard one against Seahawks last year was a boomer, he just starting his third season. Green Bay is Tim Masthay Ranks No. 1 in team history (min. 150 attempts) in both career gross punting average (44.3) and career net punting average (38.3). Neither are bottom dwellers. Had to look up Green Bays.
Punters shouldn't be making multi-million dollar contracts. I regret nothing about Carpenter being cut. Fields had a few bad kicks last year.
In case this hasn't been posted, here's a video of Matt Darr practicing punts.
He seems to hit the corners of the field very well but it is much different when you have players rushing at your face.
Not for everybody. Once I reached the point where I was automatic at stuff (muscle memory, instinct, etc.), I found there was no difference in my performance when physical or mental pressure was applied. Most pro athletes are that way as well.
That is different for every individual, ability under stress that is, and muscle memory is the best way to cover your @ss, as the saying goes, so when fatigue, or duress becomes a factor, hopefully muscle memory can take over, and it usually works, not always though. Also, mental and physical duress increase with level of competition, and can also build up over time, again, depending on the individual, sometimes that is the end of a players career, they can't handle the stress anymore, for other players stress doesn't bother them much, and then there are the players who thrive on it, to one degree or another, again, this stuff is as unique to the individual, as the individual themselves. Peyton is an all time great QB, but he isn't an all time great $ player, his playoff struggles have been well chronicled, he's done well at times, but he's been bad just as much, yet in the regular season he's like the grim reaper, cut your heart out and show it to ya. Dalton had a similar rise to Tanne on paper, he increased statistically each year for his first 3 years, but anyone watching can see that he's benefitting from being on a stacked team, and also, more importantly, he flakes out in moments of duress, and will kill any chance your team had by throwing 3 INTs or something else just as bad. Joe Facco/Eli Manning, guys that don't look like franchise QBs, they don't have franchise numbers, but rose to the occasion, when it all counted, they played their absolute best. Rodgers is just as deadly no matter where you play him, he just wants to cut your throat and leave you to bleed out. Tanne goes into a "safe" shell, he doesn't make many mistakes, but he doesn't make many plays either. I dont think Farve knew what pressure was until he got caught "selfying" the reporter, he was just a gunslinger, live by the sword... These are all different examples of how it can affect different individuals differently at the same level doing the same job, their isn't really a template for a pro, so to speak.
Yeah.. you just need to see how muscle memory can fail under stress for the best Olympic athletes to know it affects the best of the best.
