It was against 2s and/or 3s, but he looked like a force Saturday night. Really would like to see him against some 1s, hopefully we'll see that after a few weeks into the season, if not earlier.
This could be a chance for Ajayi to take the #2 spot. To my knowledge no one has solidified that backup spot to Miller.
By listening to ongoings, it seems Williams is there at #2, but nobody's in love with him, besides his receiving skills.
he has an NFL body already for the position, looked big and quick, saw some quick foot movements that showed good projection, that one run for about 8 yards he showed real good vision, there was nothing there and it seemed like he had an automatic radar device to find daylight..finished the run with authority..also caught the ball a few times with no drops..
Yeah I'd have him start too. I'd do maybe the first half just to give him enough reps to showcase that talent.
Whoever is the "#2" RB is just a technicality. Damien Williams is a great 3rd down back (great hands, great in the open field), but he doesn't have the vision or burst through the hole to be effective as a 1st & 2nd down back. So in the 1st game, we might see Lamar Miller on 1st & 2nd down, Damien Williams on 3rd down, and Jay Ajayi sitting on the bench. But that doesn't mean that Damien Williams is really the "#2" RB, serving as Lamar Miller's backup. If Lamar Miller went down, then I'd expect Jay Ajayi to handle 1st & 2nd down, and Damien Williams to continue handling 3rd down. And if Jay Ajayi went down, then I'd expect LaMichael James to handle 1st & 2nd down, and Damien Williams to continue handling 3rd down.
I don't see a clear cut #2 developing. I see Damien on many passing situations - ala Shane Vareen, Sproles - and Ajayi as the primary runner behind Miller
