    ESPN article by James Walker

PFF has Tannehill ranked one spot behind Wilson and leaves Luck completely out of top 10 which Walker questions.

He says PFF is way off base (for all you PFF junkies) and Tannehill doesnt beat Luck in throwing ability, stats and wins. He says Tannehill is growing but wonders if Tannehill has the ability to raise the level of play of his team and also slams Tannehills 4th quarter play and says the Colts would be a bottom half team without Luck and says right now, he is not better than Luck.

If flip those three. Luck, Tannehill, Wilson. Luck is his team at this point, Tannehill has been his team but the team overall has been mediocre, RW is a product of his system. I expect Tannehill to overtake Wilson in most rankings over the next 2-3 years.

Luck is easily top 5... What he does for his team is amazing, for goodness sakes, his starting RB was a man named Zurlon Tipton in the playoffs last year and his pocket was collapsing almost every play but he is great at maneuvering in a pocket or getting a ball off while getting hit, and wanna talk D? Forget about it, because they are missing the days of Bob Sanders, Dwight Freeney over there, and they were generally bad even when they had those guys. Lucks #'s alone prove he is a top 5 guy, throw the wins in there and you have a sure thing in the top 5.

Now, let me hear how he plays in 'the worse division' and then let me tell you how he LED his team to the AFC Championship Game beating the Bengals and Broncos (2 teams out of his division) to get there and be one of the final 4 in the NFL.

PFF stats are nice, but the grading system is flawed, this is a great example of that, how can you take the system seriously when it makes huge flaws like leaving Luck out of the top 10.

Yea, I came to that conclusion early on, Bess, who I was a big fan of, was rated as the 11th best WR in the league, back in 08 or 09, and like I said, I was a big fan, but that was just ridiculous.

Just can't take the grading system seriously, the stats I do like, but no way would I pay for them.

Vs. Common opponents in their careers (Luck has yet to play the NFC South and Tannehill the NFC East).

    AFC East
    Luck: 77.0
    Tannehill: 74.5

    AFC North
    Luck: 85.8
    Tannehill: 90.8

    AFC South
    Luck: 92.3
    Tannehill: 77.3

    AFC west:
    Luck: 89.7
    Tannehill: 96.3

    NFC North:
    Luck: 75.6
    Tannehill: 103

    NFC West:
    Luck: 91.2
    Tannehill: 74.9

In 2014, ESPN's QBR (if you put stock into it) had Luck as the 13th rated passer w/61.5 and Tannehill the 16th rated passer a 58. Truth is, the difference between Tannehill and Luck isn't a gaping chasm that some people try and paint it to be. And it's painful to see Dolphins fans give props to Luck for "doing it alone' or whatever, ignoring the fact that Tannehill's offensive lines have ranked at the bottom of the league for two straight years. And turning guys like Brian Hartline into a 2x 1,000 yard receiver.

p.s. And before anyone tries to point out the QB rating vs. the AFC South, in effort to make them seem respectable, Tannehill's QB rating against that division is a bit deceiving, as his first game in the NFL was against Houston, and had two balls batted in the air for picks, and another where Legedu Naanee stopped a slant short and hung Tannehill out to dry for the 3rd pick. Otherwise, Tannehill has been pretty good vs. the AFC South too w/an 85 rating.

The AFC South is soft... You don't need to prop Luck up by pretending that division is respectable. It's not. Not yet, anyway. Almost 50% of Luck's stats came against that division. 12-0 in the last two years vs. the AFC South. And the Colts SOS over the last couple of years has been bottom of the league. And Luck was terrible against Denver in the playoffs last year. Peyton was injured and could barely throw 10 yard passes in one of the saddest performances I've ever seen. People were calling for his retirement after that game prior to learning the details about his quad injury. Andrew Luck has accomplished more than Tannehill at this stage of their careers, no doubt, but enough with the history rewrites to prop Luck up.

Lucks OL was arguably just as bad, he just knows how to work a pocket ALOT better. I have RT17 as the 13th best QB in the NFL and I do think he cracks my top 10 after this season, but im not gonna sit here and try and foolishly tell myself he is better then Luck when the fact is, he isnt better at anything than Luck. You can tell me common opponents and all that hoopla but again, fact is Luck (whos offense revolves around him) got the job done, put up stellar numbers and made it deep into playoffs with a bunch if garbage in his backfield and OL and a couple decent TEs and Ty Hilton and RT17 (whos offense revolves around him) didnt put up nearly as many pass yards or pass tds, and was watching Luck beat the Bengals and Broncos in the playoffs and march onto the AFCCG from his home.

    Throwing Ability-AL12 over RT17
    Stats-AL12 over RT17
    Wins-AL12 over RT17
    Eyeball Test-AL12 over RT17

Ok deal... as long as you dont tell me RT17 is in the same realm of QB play as AL12, we will have ourselves a deal. I know a bunch of fans on here that would be crying/blaming Zurlon Tipton if that was RT17s RB.. LOL but.im SURE you wont acknowledge that... I KNOW YOU WONT! I see some already setting up.the scapegoats for this upcoming season just in case RT17 has another year with a pathetic YPA.

Agreed. All those things are true at this point. I never suggested Tannehill was better than Luck, but they're much closer than some people are willing to admit. Part that is because people want to make Luck out to be better than he is. And because people don't want to give Tannehill any credit because of a W/L record that somehow has been attributed to him and not the team.

He will get that blame because he literally has the most control over our outcome as our offense is centered around him. Sometimes, its like people think our offense is centered around Lamar Miller or Damien Williams and its not, we run a pass heavy attack and finish seasons with scores of 16, 13, 13 and then people will hit us with the proverbial scapegoat not named RT17, as if our offensive score had nothing to do with him, and the failure to mention RT17 complacent attitude in most 4th quarters of important ballgames.

As much as I would like to debate, I gotta hit the bed and drive back up to Jersey from Florida bright and early tmw, later Phin fans.

Luck isn't elite. For three years, Luck's been a turnover machine in the regular and post season. When you're competing for the league lead in INT's and leading the NFL in fumbles, you're not elite. Right now, he's the best young QB in the game w/huge upside. I don't think the gap separating Luck and Tannehill is big enough to be described as another realm despite Luck being the better QB.

I've never suggested Luck has had elite weapons either. And you're right, I don't even know who Zurlon Tipton is. I can't believe that's a name of a real person. What I do know is, Luck has a had a better cast of talent around him than Tannehill. Reggie Wayne, T.Y. Hilton, Coby Fleener, and Dwayne Allen vs. Mike Wallace, Brian Hartline, Brandon Gibson, and Charles Clay is no contest. Not a single one of those guys even plays for Miami anymore. And for good reason. Both teams have made changes to improve their offenses, so we'll see what both can do under better circumstances.

If Tannehill's 6.9 YPA is pathetic, what is 7.1 YPA? That was Super Bowl winning Tom Brady's YPA in 2014. We all want Tannehill to throw more YPA. And with a respectable cast of receivers around him, expectations are that he will and should. We'll see soon enough.

Dont worry, Im 100% certain that Indy wont be calling Miami anytime soon for a RT17 for AL12 trade anytime soon, even if we offer two first rd picks with that, I highly doubt they will make that trade, cerebral QBs dont grow on trees and Indy knows that.

Im just saying, when all is said and done, I believe 17 will have just as good as stats as Andrew Luck. The ONE area I will say Luck is light years ahead of 17, and thats a big area in my book, is in swagger and confidence. Luck plays with swagger...which is why hes do damn good at coming back. He BELIEVES he will win. Physically, I dont think hes a better QB then Tannehill. If 17 gains that kind of confidence and begins to play with it....nobody will be wishing Luck was our QB. Thats the one thing holding Tannehill back, IMO. Swagger and Confidence.

If the defense does their job in a couple of games last year, we'd have made the playoffs. I wonder would people be saying Tannehill LED his team tot he playoffs then?

I know a couple posters who say that he did despite us being 8-8.

Good news is now and likely the next 4-5 years you can hild your chin up and say..."Ryan has led us to X".

This team is no joke and is ready to do great things.

The point being, the QB can't LEAD the defense. Meaning the notion that Luck has "led" his team to the playoffs while Tannehill hasn't, is silly.

Regardless of us making the playoffs this year or not, it doesn't change the fact that it is a team effort to make the playoffs or miss them and shouldn't be counted towards the QB's evaluation.

Hard to make the argument that Tannehill is better when Luck was at 7.7 yards per attempt last season. That's pretty amazing all things considered.

There's also another area Luck is light years ahead of Tannehill - extending plays. He is great at shedding defenders and avoiding sacks. It is his biggest strength.

Here is a link to PFF explanation as to why they put RT ahead of AL.
[h=1]WHY ANDREW LUCK RANKS OUTSIDE OUR TOP 10 QBS (FOR NOW)[/h]
That last line is what rings true for me. Andrew Luck is a very good QB, he just isn't as good as many people give him credit for being. From the time he was drafted people have been putting him in the elite category and while he has been good he hasn't turned the league upside down with his performance on the field. He has all the tools and as he grows he may turn into the QB he is hyped up to be or he may have already hit his ceiling. Only time will tell but like every other player, let's let Luck earn his stripes on the field.

You need time to throw. According to PFF, we had the 31st worst pass blocking offensive line last year (along with the Vikings, we also were in the bottom 10 in sacks, hits & hurries). We only had time for short passes. That lowers your YPA. There's simply no denying that.

Yes, Tannehill played well enough for us to have made the playoffs last season. Literally, if the defense had made a couple plays in two games, we win those games and are in the playoffs, and Tannehill's stats are no different. I also understand that the offense didn't always come through, just giving the flip sidea of the argument.

It's crazy to me that people simply ignore how quickly Tannehill had to get rid of the ball...and ignore that the receivers were garbage at getting YAC...yet want to complain about ypa, as if that is purely a state that the QB controls.

There was no spin or off topic stuff there. The other 10 players on offense are integral in any discussion about wins, losses, or play from the quarterback.

Yeah, they do. And I would argue that QBs shouldn't be held accountable for a loss when their teammates don't do their jobs. For the record, most teams aren't generating insane pressure with only 4 linemen, causing a QB to have to throw it or scramble in under 2.5 seconds.

Yes. Like I said, QBs shouldn't be criticized for their teammates losing games.
