Backups or not, these guys have got to learn how to close out wins...it will help during the season. I thought our backups would be much better this year than the have been

When was this? I only remember Kuechly getting a hand on a pass intended for Hazel.

And if that is what you're referring to, then it was far more impressive a play by Kuechly than it was a outright mistake by Tannehill IMO. Most LBs can't run towards the WR, stop and turn around almost 180 degrees, then try and run with the WR and then find the ball (in only brief secs).

Also, Frank Alexander for the Panthers ended up rupturing his achilles during the game. That was my guess as to his injury when he got hurt.

Agreed re: the Kuechly play. That was a helluva play as well. I'm not sure you can really fault Tannehill for throwing that. Kuechly had his back to Tannehill, turned, found Hazel and got a hand on it. Tip your cap to a tremendous play made by a tremendous player.

Ryan Tannehill is averaging 9.1 yards per attempt in the preseason. That's an impressive stat, especially since he still dinks & dunks.

    Really nice, if true.

EDIT: I don't think it's right. He had 22 attempts so far (7 Bears, 15 Panthers) and 158 yards (56 Bears, 102 Panthers).

    158/22 = 7.2 YPA.

Still, an upgrade over his YPA in the past seasons.

Damn, I didn't know Jamar Taylor got hurt. I was high on him this year too. Hope it isn't serious.

  8. exactly and this is why i dont care about wins or losses. preseason games are to get your starters warmed up for the regular season and to evaluate the players on the cusp of your roster. in some ways i think it can be better when your team loses because it shows coaches what they need to improve before the start of the season.

Yeah, I have no idea how he got to that 9.1 number, guessing he divided the yards by the number of completions or something like that haha.

Rewatching first quarter, Reshad is all over LOS with the run support. Impressive. If he shores up his zone reads he can be pro bowl material.

For what it's worth, I think Tannehill should have lobbed it. I tried few times to capture his release while still having both of them in the screen, this is what I got. At this point Tannehill still has the ball, and Kuechly is covering the wide out. Obviously easy to mmqb but stepping up and lobbing it and trusting your wide out to make a play is the better pass me thinks.

I agree with the individual who said that was just Kuechly being an elite, heads-up LB.

I think Tannehill gunned it in there the way he's done a few now. I think he's at the point where he trusts his arm and his ability to fit the ball in a tight window. There's no way he saw that evolving the way it did. Kuechly just made it look easy, but that's an elite MLB doing his thing.

You probably have a point though, there are plenty of times when pure muscle isn't going to win the war. Again...young QB...he's got to grow.
