I'm getting scared, I agree with Mando. Does that make me a douche too? http://www.miamiherald.com/news/breaking-news/story/623832.html
I thought they were impressive? Did he really think we would possibly go after Moss? Glenn mentors on the field. Ginn is compared to Glenn and it would be great to have Glenn show him the ropes by displaying it on the field. The addition imo would be a good one. The reasons are because he would be a mentor on this team for the young receivers who we can still keep. Expand the WR limit to six wideouts and then you get to keep the young guys. Sure, one guy will be out and to me it looks like it will be Foster but that's not a big deal. We can move him to PS if he clears waivers. If he doesn't, we have Ginn who has the same abilities as Foster. I'll admit it, I'm worried about one thing. If Glenn ends up being the slot, what do we do with Hagan and Bess? If Hagan continues to impress, do you really want him at the five spot? Or what about Bess? He has shown great hands. You want that on the field. I think this could be a positive move if he is signed to the right deal. Give him a 1-2 year deal for the veterans minimum or 2 million a year and it will be fine. If he doesn't work out, it won't be a big problem.
Thanks, I see no reason for a team that desparately needs to be reenergized with youth take on an old reciever who won't last half a season. If he's such a great mentor, then hire him as a WR assistant coach or something, but he shouldn't take up a roster spot instead of a hungry kid.
So Glenn is done then huh Salguero? He should retire since he stinks. And the front office is inept again too huh? They'd be idiots to bring him on board. I mean, Armando Salguero, Head Coach of 13 NFL teams in his career, certainly knows his ****. Let's listen to him instead of the guys who get paid to make the decisions. Great idea!
I dont see any reason why not to really. If hes still got something left and can contribute, all the better. If not, he will be beaten out by guys like Ginn and Bess and Wilford, and maybe in that time he can teach a few tricks or whatnot to the guys. Yeah, ACs are supposed to teach, but sometimes its nice to have a guy whos done this stuff for the last 10 years actually go out and show the kids how to do it right. I mean, if the guys coming cheap, why not? Hes either better than what we have, in which case its a plus, or hes not, in which case we are down a vet min. salary, oh noes!!
Our young players don't need Glenn to show them how to play...they have been playing football since pop warner.
Although that statement is true, playing football overall isn't a problem for our guys. The problem is that there's a transition to each level. It would be helpful to have a guy who can show you how to do certain things and give you tips on how to beat the coverage for example.
Good point, I do think we will sign him. to be honest, what if we do and his knee gives out, then what?
who cares about fringe guys? dont most expect us to draft a WR high next year or use some FA $ down the road?
If his knee gives out then oh well. He won't have a big deal and we won't have to worry about a huge cap hit. If his knee gives out and he is out for the season, reach an injury settlement like they did in Dallas and move on. His injury isn't as big of an impact as say if Ferguson went down. If Glenn goes down, not a big deal because we still have possibly five receivers. LIke I said, my only worry is that he cuts in to Hagan's and Bess' playing time. Other than that, I'm absolutely fine with the acquisition. What do you consider high? I don't want a WR no earlier than the pick Washington gave us. As for a FA, it depends whose available.
Round two? If so, I'd be willing to invest the draft pick if I feel that he can be a good contributor to the team. However, there could be a late round guy that may impress you just as well and with the needs we have, I wouldn't go earlier than the WSH pick but that's just me. Btw, I expect Washington to have a record around 7-9 which could possibly give them a draft pick in the late 50's of the second round. They had the 51st pick this past draft and they finished 9-7. EDIT: If your talking about number two overall, I wouldn't draft a WR there unless the guy has talents like Calvin Johnson. Again, JMO.
I think too much is being made of this. He's a 34 year old receiver with questionable knees. It's not like we're going to break the bank signing him to a huge contract. I don't think anyone in the front office is expecting vintage Glenn. He'll help the young guys in pre-season. If guys like Bess and Foster show that they're more than training camp stars when the games begin, then they could always cut Terry or sneak him on the PUP if his knees aren't 100% sound. If they don't, then Glenn will be a veteran receiver on this team until they get an upgrade. Parcells, Sparano and Ireland aren't stupid. They're not going to waste a roster spot at the expense of someone who may have a bright future. But just because a few of these guys have looked very good in TC and the OTA's doesn't mean they're bound for stardom, or even a solid NFL career.
Do you know how much money we have under the cap right now? Have you ever heard of 4 and 5 receiver sets? Just from a practicing and mentoring point of view, signing Glenn is a good move. The QB's need WR's who know the system and can catch the ball, right now not next season. We need to beat the Jests on day 1. If Glenn is just good for 3 first downs a game that already makes him worth it, that and having him mentor Ginn Jr. I'm sure it's the same guys who want to just hand the QB J-O-B to Beck that are the same guys who feel that signing Glenn is a bad move. Armando may be right about 2% of the time, there are librarians over 60 that understand pro football more than that shmuck.
If our receivers have been unimpressive anyway then why wouldnt you bring in a mentor for the young guys? Seems like backwards logic. You cant be afraid to win games in the NFL. You hear about how a move will only help you win one or two more games anyway so you shouldnt make it. I don't buy that, vets help on the field, in the locker room, and winning breeds winning.
I really don't understand this. I thought we all have read that the WR's have been impressive in camp. Hagan making catches in traffic, Camarillo catching balls down the sideline and Bess catching everything. Am I missing something?
Thats what I've heard too. My post was just based on the idea that to others they havent been impressive.
Sorry, if it looked like my post was directed toward yours. It was meant to question Salguero. I'm wondering if some of these guys are watching/hearing the same things as we are or they are just clueless.
Nor Hagan nor Bess are gonna be held back cause of Glenn. If anybody is gonna suffer from the signing it is going to be guys like Camarillo, Foyster, Kirkus and Dunlap. I think our WR corps will lookl like this: Glenn Wilford Ginn Hagan Bess Glenn could come in and play a fill in role on goal line situations. He could also serve as a mentor to the younger recievers. It is a win win situation and Im all for it.
I'm going to try and crank out a column on this in the next couple of days -- while it's still timely --but here's a spoiler: the acquisition of Glenn would be as much about helping Beck as helping the young WRs.
alen and I have had this talk about Glenn. to be honest, its only a matter of time before he signs with us, like it or not.
How would Glenn not hold back Bess or Hagan? Hagan and Bess could be 4th and 5th on the depth chart. I believe the others won't even make the roster. Maybe Camarillo.
I think we will see atleast another two Cowboys sign after Glenn. A guy Im monotoring is Remi Ayodele who is the younger brother of Akin. Ireland really like this guy and he filed in quite well for Ferguson last year. He was released after aquiring Tank Johnson only to be signed again. The other guy im intrigued by Roy Williams, Im not sure about him coming here, but if released would Ireland and Parcells bring him.
