I have been under many different styles of leadership and become a leader myself. No matter the style of the leader, IMO it falls more to if the guys believe in you and what you are trying to sell them. All the rah, rah, speeches in the world don’t mean a hill of beans if the person you are speaking to does not buy into what you are trying to sell.

People who give great rah, rah speeches may have a great short term success but if they cannot back up there words, it just becomes hollow. On the other hand a speaker may not be all that motivating up front but in time people see he means what he says, a respect is formed. As the saying goes the proof is in the pudding.

As for me personally, I hate being preached to. Say what needs to be said and move on.

The offense didn't have Stills, Parker and Albert. All three can be impact players. The question is how good is this Bears team (starters) ? Last season we dismantled them as well and still went 8-8.

I agree but I seem to remember last year when the 1s marched down the field with ease on the opening drive of that first preseason game...we still finished .500

Tannenbaum might envision that but does Ross?

With the schedule we have early we should have at least two win improvement, if not three or four. Especially with the way the division is looking and having early division games against weakened opponents..

And by the way boys and girls, I downloaded all of the Rick 1966 books, (and read them) and they were most enjoyable reads. Occupied two weeks of sitting around G-Pas house doing squat quite well last summer. Check em out if you are a fan of sci-fi or military style thrillers or just want to kill a few hours.

I agree that the key is being able to back your BS. Not on a physical level so much for a coach but the players need to feel like you know what you are talking about, that you have the TEAM first and foremost in mind but that you put them individually in a position where success is possible and achievable. Discipline should be more about training opportunities and learning from failure to create success than punishment. Input from the team needs to be respected and implemented when its a good idea that works and sometimes even when not to create ownership and empowerment.

That's my leadership style, I have 70 people on my team now, and probably 100 more from other teams I have worked with, that would "run thru walls" for me and do every day.

I go back to Mom and Dad.

Dads leadership style... Yell scream beat the crap out of you if you screw up. I would screw up, get the crap beat out of me, and before the bruises healed be right back doing the same stupid ish just because F.U. ya know.

Mom...Mom just look at me, get that kinda sad look on her face and say "Brian my only son, I'm very disappointed in you and worry for the man you'll become if you carry on this way" And I would feel like I just got a whoopin and be on the ground ballin and swearing I would never do that again. And I wouldn't.

From Philbin I get...Someone who doesn't have it in him to be Dad, which is cool...but he could never be Mom either, he's more like my Nerdy Uncle Steve the college professor on his third wife who can't decide whether he wants milk or water with dinner without asking her first.

Big question for this year? Can the leadership team put the players in a position to win consistently this season. I am not at all confident in that.

Yeah, but our defense also allowed Atlanta's 1's to march down with ease on their opening drive last year. Didn't happen this year.
