Watch the video. Its not a youtube video, else I would have posted it. Now, don't get me wrong, the video is also pretty lame, but many people who lament that Gruden "turned us down" are also Tannehill skeptics, so I thought it would be fun.
I've been trying to figure out where to take Tannehill in my fantasy draft. In a regular league you could wait until the 6th round or later, but with my group QBs go ridiculously early. It makes no sense but there will probably be 6 or 7 QBs that go in my league's first round (12 teams). If Tannehill is not in that group then I might be able to wait until the 4th and focus on RBs and WRs early as is my preference. There are basically three Dolphins I'm hoping for in my draft, Tannehill, Landry and the defense. But Tannehill is the one that I may have the most trouble acquiring.
Saw this last night. Jon gruden really is becoming John Madden. All personality and little insight. His comments about Tannehill are as generic as it gets. Sounds like a Marino analysis on NFL today lol. That said, I like that Ryan is getting some much deserved recognition. And now that he's got weapons of quality and appropriate to the scheme Miami is running, it should be a great year for him and Miami. I expect a lot of the media to jump on his bandwagon by mid season.
6 or 7 QBs in the first round? I'd love to be in that draft lol. 90% of the time I go two best RBs. The dropoff is too great. I'm in 3 leagues but two are keepers, and I have Tanny in both. Tanny though, was very inconsistent last year. I saw a stat showing he was one of a few in the top 12 of total points, with the most subpar games. So yes we'd like some more consistency there. Hopefully in year 2 of Lazor's offense we'll see that (and more!). 3 I'm betting on. Wilson, Tanny, Teddy Bridgewater (for keeper leagues). I'm holding on to Tanny as long as he can smooth out his 4,000 yards and 30 TDs across the first 12 games at least
i´m praying that he will make it to 30 in my 10 team league, if i want him i have to get him there or he is gone, i want tannehill, defense and cameron
Ah, Jon Gruden, proudly representing the University of Dayton with that spell-binding dialogue... Anyways, I think Gruden's right; Tannehill could very well break out this year. If he keeps improving ball placement and his pocket presence he's going to be a top 10 QB in the NFL.
No it's not. A huge majority of 1st round RB's fail to live up to the hype, especially in the last few FF seasons. And almost every team runs a two back system, so even great RBs like Charles are losing value. The NFL has changed and so has FF. Spending early picks on guys like Rodgers, Luck, etc... is the winning strategy. Especially Rodgers, who's consistently having great games week to week and delivering the goods. Every year, there's RB's to be had in the 3rd and 4th round that breakout and become 1st rounders the following season.
Exactly like last year, when I got Adrian Peterson, Montee Ball and Knowshon Moreno in the first 5 rounds (14 team league).
Having any combination of Rodgers, Nelson, and Cobb is the ticket. If you're in an auction league and don't try for all three, jokes on you. I've never seen a team throw from inside the 5 more than Green Bay. Eddie Lacy owners get robbed lol.
Last season I picked up Tannehill as a mid-season free agent. I started him the entire second half of the season and won the league (and $1k). We are a keeper league and I am torn between keeping Tannehill or keeping Marshawn Lynch and trying to grab Tannehill in the draft.
That's not a bad strategy either. Two big dogs and draft a bunch of sleepers behind them. Emmanuel Sanders was my sleeper #3. Paid off big time. Allen Robinson, Juice, Jordan Matthews, and Brandon Cooks are juicy looking #3s this year.
I don't bash NFL analysts too often but Gruden is really a clown, a caricature. He thinks everyone is awesome. He's the same guy who picked a field goal kicker with his first pick because he lost so many close games a year prior. I'm so glad he never ended up in Miami
John Gruden is full of complete crap...He thinks every player is awesome...I don't even have to watch the video or need personal quotes....I already know them... (hunched over angled upper lip, squinted eyes position) "I'll tell ya what man, this Tannehill guy is gonna have a great season, he's got all the right kinda tools to be a mainstay at the quarterback position.... and what I like the most about him is he's a football player...Gonna be fun in Miami this year man...I love this country"
Right? What a QB draft 2012 turned out to be. I mean no one could have predicted that RG3 and T-Hill would trade media hype 3 years later.
