Didn't realize Landry was 10 1/4! That is pretty big (I think Cooper's were the biggest among top WR's this year - his were 10'' exactly). Nice.
He's still pretty young for an athlete, there is no reason why he can't get faster. Justin Gatlin is running faster at 33 than he did when he was in his 20's and doped up. Go figure.
I dunno, we're talking a tenth of a second. A tenth of a second is so small, there's literally ten of them in a second. Think about that. You cannot tell me, wearing full football gear doesn't affect tenths of a second. If you understand that, then you have to understand that increased strength of the correct kind, helps get some of those tenths lost to equipment weight, back. And if you understand that, then you understand that not all WRs work as hard as Landry does, so its possible a guy in the 4.3 area in shorts is actually slower in full gear than Landry in full gear. This is why I say and have been saying, combine 40 times are over relied on.
Which is 40 times are so overrated. It's more about how fast can a player run while beating the jam, reading coverage, adjusting his routes, staying under control so he can make his break sharply and accurately, find the football etc. Running in a straight line from a three point, in shorts, happens in actual football, never.
Wanted to get your guys thoughts. Was pondering about asking Juice to maybe do a Q and A here at the phins.com, specifically about how he trains, what aspects of training can improve speed, and anything else that might be applicable to the convetsation. Id imagine he couldnt do it, if he responds at all, till after the season...but you never know. I bet with some pounding of the concrete...we could get players..coaches etc..to do things like this here..so long as its always done in a professional manner. What do you all think?
Green was in the news on February 16, 2010, his 50th birthday, for reportedly running a 4.43 second 40-yard dash. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darrell_Green
I still remember him chasing down Dorsett from behind. He wasn't even in the picture and then whoooosh! he drags him out of bounds. It's one of the reasons I was loving Trae Waynes; you can't teach that kind of speed.
Would love for him to be faster but really I could care less. I've seen enough from his hands to his quick moves to his football IQ to see this guy will be special for us like the was OJ was for us. He's committed and that's good enough for me. We have a lifer in In Landry
Bingo. Dorsett was stunned. I believe he hurt his knee/leg on that play as well. Sure put Green on the map.
agree, you can arrive at point B faster than the faster guy by being good at some of the things you mention..where a lack of speed shows itself is in how a corner covers, if he knows/feels your speed and measures it, he can incorporate that math equation into how much space he allows you to gain.
I think its a fantastic idea, and making a connection with your fanbase is always a good idea for a smart entrepenuer..problem is these dudes want to get paid for their time...but put it out there, Im not sure how many members thephins.com has but I think its getting close to 5 figures..prolly have to talk to a mod.
That could be, also what people are missing is if you are going to make comparisons then make them fair. I know that in Aqua's post every one of the receivers except Landry was a 1st round pick and Landry was a second rounder. Landry is also #3 receiver for us as well but to me, I will take Landry's almost 2000 total yards and put it up against every receiver listed, as well as many more every day of the week and twice on Sunday's. Plus we drafted our #1 this year in DeVante Parker, traded for Stills who will be our #2 I think AND signed Greg Jennings and we still have Matthews...Simply Awesome.
I heard 10 1/4". Among WRs I recall Fitzgerald and Nicks having 10.5" hands. It seems to me that most years lately you have a WR with 10.5" hands. JJ Watt was over 11" I believe. edit: And I believe Jordan Matthews had the biggest WR hands in Landry's year.
In terms of hand size, only two players in the last two drafts have had larger hands than Landry: Deandre Smelter - 11" Jordan Matthews - 10 3/8" Landry is tied for 3rd with two others at 10 1/4" That's pretty impressive. It's not everything in catching the football but it can make a difference. Raw speed isn't everything to getting open but it can make a difference in some cases. A bigger factor is quick cuts and sharp route running. If Landry can improve his cutting ability and quickness out of his cuts he can get better separation and that can go a long way to improving his game - especially that 9.0 ypc.
How much of that might be muscle memory and getting to spend a couple years away from sport cos he's a disgusting drugs cheat? As an aside he said it was unfair of him to be labelled a drugs cheat. Pfft. Scum. Don't do drugs then. I love pro cycling but the whole of the time I've watched it has been corrupted by terrible awful scumbags.
