In the wake of gamblers betting a lot of money on Miami winning the Super Bowl, the Mirage and 11 Nevada casinos have dropped the odds of the Dolphins winning the Super Bowl from 50-to-1 to 20-to-1, which represents the 10th shortest odds among 32 teams.

Who has shorter odds than the Dolphins? Seattle, Green Bay, Indy, New England, Dallas, Denver, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and surprisingly, Buffalo.

    Well away from here
So basically some rich guy from Miami did a lot of coke and he and his buddies all laid bets for the Phins.

Hmmm.. interesting. Here are 2 sites where you can bet right now online, and one has Dolphins at 33:1 and the other at 40:1. That's a pretty big difference from 20:1.

btw.. whoever wrote that (I know jim1 is just quoting) really made it confusing by saying "dropped the odds" when the odds of winning actually increased!!

I thought about that, it actually led me to change the thread title. 50:1 ratio drops to 20:1 - I don't know, Barry could have worded that one better but he's always aces with me.

The thing that bugs me about these Super Bowl odds is they always go down, not up. They don't bat an eyelash at moving a 50-1 down to 30-1 because all the book is doing is shortening its liability and they'll take any excuse to do it. But do you think they make up for that movement by lengthening other odds and making other teams more attractive? Pssh.

The most successful bookie I knew gave short odds on favorites and lengthened the outsiders. He said he didn't know much about horses but he took a lot of money off people who dreamed better than they thought.

I just put some manies on the Dolphins getting to the SB (winning the AFC Championship). I think with the easy schedule, a potentially dominating defense, Tannehill producing some good numbers and a little luck 13 wins is on the table. That would get us home field advantage throughout the playoffs where the heat and humidity in Miami should give us a bit of an edge over the cold weather teams, and we'd only need two wins.

Since many years before the season starts we talk how much the dolphins have improved during the offseason. We all know the results and the disappointment that followed the high expectations. This let me be a Little bit reserved with my own expectations. And now suddenly even Vegas is talking Superbowl. The Dolphins winning the Superbowl - this sounds so strange! The Dolphins winning the Superbowl - sounds so good. The Dolphins winning the Superbowl - wow, crazy. Can't wait. Go Fins!

Well.. Vegas is still fairly down to Earth about it. 20:1 is still not that good considering there are 32 teams in the league. It just means we have a slightly better than average chance to win it (fits with the expectation for ~9 wins or so).

I wish That I could afford to place a nice wager on the Dolphins as there are several scenarios that I would absolutely love to lay money on...I know in the past that every year we get our hopes up, and every year would be a let down. I have noticed that for two years we have slowly been getting better..our record does not show it but with a few correct bounces we could have been 11-5 the last 2 years so for my thinking that this is finally the year that in year 4, Philbin starts making all of the right calls...He has been learning on the job and I think he finally puts it together this year...I think Tannehill will have a HUGE year...4500 yards+ 42 TD's...7 int's...500 yards rushing...4 rushing TD's....and only sacked 15 times.....it will be just like an oh,so special year 31 years ago, Lamar Miller in his 4 th year keeps improving and takes another BIG step with 1400 YD's rushing, 8 TD's and averages over 6.0 ypc...Our WR unit puts on a clinic and best year since 84, and our OLine finally gets time together with all playing one position each and they become a very cohesive unit...We eat Buffalo and the JETS DLine up with our ZBS and our moving pocket...We end up in the RZ this year as much as last year only we score TD's on 90% of them this year becoming the NFL leader in RZ scoring with all of these things being possible and clicking at once we could have the #1 offense in the League.
On Defense with the additions and Subtractions on this side of the ball, I am looking at a much improved Defense this year. We were hovering up around the top five last year on D even jumping to #1 for a very short while until our Defense started getting decimated by injuries. With the additions of Suh, Moseley, and Phillips to our DTackle room to go with Mitchell and others, we are vastly improved and this improvement will have the whole defense energized and rolling this year. Although I thought Odrick was ok, he and Mitchell often times just frankly became tired and non existent..Odrick also took too many snaps away from Starks, who imho was the better tackle. With these new additions our DE's are really going to feast this year and so will our LB's and DB's. Go back and revisit the thought that we picked up 4 pretty talented LB's as UDFA's. This right here was a complete homerun...one of the new LB's that I really like, and am rooting for, Jeff Luc, is an absolute StumpKnocker and he is great at causing turnover's as well as not only forcing, but also gaining possession of said TO's. Again, our LB play will be really good this year imho. The same with our DB's...We really picked up some future stars as well for our secondary....should be some great competition and bring out the best in them all. Again, the Coaching staff is putting a big emphasis on TO's and one of our rooks is awesome with the picks and that is Bobby McCain..All of the McCain's will be really good contributors..I think we found our future FS to replace Delmas when that time comes in Cedrick Thompson...I think Walt Aikens really steps up this year as well as Mike Thomas and many of these guys will have our ST's kicking butt this year as well..I like Tony Lippett' s potential also..on BOTH sides of the ball..gotta take advantage of these dual threat players. So, all in all, if we can avoid the injury bug this year then I feel that we have the makings to have the #1 defense this year.....definitely top 5.
ST's this year also can have a special year. Brandon Fields returns to his old form, and leads the league, and the scary unknown is Caleb Sturgis..hopefully he finds that inner peace and health real quick if he wants to continue playing football. I would love it if he can be around 90% on FG's and 100% on XP's.
So in closing, if we can stay HEALTHY, and with our schedule, and introducing the Phase I improvements to our stadium, We CAN go 13-3 and get Home Field advantage. Let's Go Fins.

Smart money is not betting on Super Bowl futures.

Why do you say that? There are professional sports bettors who do a lot of research and approach betting in a more systematic way (they look at expectations over longer periods of time). They bet on SB futures too, and if someone had insider info that Mathis was coming to the Dolphins, the smart money would definitely take advantage of the lower odds before the public gets the info.
