The Dolphins Head Coach saw enough throughout the OTAs and the first two days of minicamp to feel satisfied with what his team was able to get done in the nine weeks of the offseason program.

“We got a lot accomplished,” Philbin said after practice Wednesday. “We really have. We’re really pleased about the situational work. I feel really good about the two days that we’ve had in this minicamp and the way that they’ve gone about their business.”

“We’ve had some educational things, number one, where we’ve provided some forums for them and we’ve provided some information, we provided opportunities. We’ve given them some time in the schedule with some meeting times and so forth for some of the older guys to do a little bit of mentoring and those type of things. So I think it’s a start and we have good potential there.”

From a performance standpoint, Philbin mentioned during minicamp several young players who caught his eye.

Among undrafted rookies, he pointed to the four linebackers who were among the leading tacklers in college football in 2014 — Zach Vigil, Mike Hull, Neville Hewitt and Jeff Luc.

Philbin also was asked if any receivers had stood out after first-round pick DeVante Parker was sidelined because of foot surgery, and he mentioned Matt Hazel and Michael Preston.

“I know it’s simple, but I like our pursuit on defense with the way we’ve been running to the football,” Philbin said. “I think that in my mind if we now combine that with tackling, that should eliminate some or limit some explosive plays. You can’t and it’s not realistic to say you’re going to give up explosive plays in this league. But I think with the way we’ve emphasized pursuit, with the way we’ve emphasized taking the ball — like punching the ball, stripping the ball — hopefully that will again boost our takeaways. And then I would say on the offensive side of the ball, I think the red zone is really situation-specific and we had a new offense last year. As a whole, I think we feel better about our plan, our scheme, our utilization of people and our execution with where we are in the season.”

“I am excited,” quarterback Ryan Tannehill said. “I feel great about our progress that we made this spring. I feel that every day we got better and learned something. I like the guys and players that we have. I am excited for training camp so that we can continue to hone our craft and continue to build our chemistry.”
