That's great news if he passes the physical and all. This will add depth (giving a solid #1/2 receiver) and experience to the WR core and help young guys like Ginn develop. I love this move if it happens especially with the Jags and Cowboys still after him.
This is great news. Anybody who thinks otherwise did not see the caliber of football Terry Glenn was playing in Dallas before the injury. He still has something left.
I like it. Nothing wrong with bringing in a player that can help teach younger guys and can contribute on the field. Also very little risk involved in signing him
Key word is INJURY always and often.I for one would rather not sign Glenn, and let one of the young guys have that spot on our roster.
We have enough young guys. We need someone to show them the ropes. Bringing Glenn in does that. He teaches them on the field. I have absolutely no problems bringing Glenn in.
Don't you think with cuts still to come there will be someone better than Glenn? at least not so injury prone.
For some reason, when I read the headline, I thought it said Ted Ginn. I was just sitting there wondering where he's been the last week or so.. Anyway.. Sounds like good news. Easily becomes our #3 and could even press for a starting roll.
I don't think there will be a person better for our team than Glenn come cuts. Ginn has been compared to Glenn several times. Why not bring in the guy they compare him to? That guy can teach him how to play the game like he played it. Glenn was a successful receiver in this league at one time.
Sweet. More Big Ten. I'm all for it. Buckeyes all the way!! From an unbias standpoint, I think Glenn will have his moments, but won't be a constant contributor. Thats fine with me though.
Bess will make the roster, I have no worries. As for Foster, does he have a place on this team? We already have a guy who can do all that Foster does in Ginn. Why keep him? I can see us expanding the limit at the position to six. We keep Ginn, Wilford, Camarillo, Hagan, Bess and Glenn.
Obviously makes our team better, but I'm interested to see where exactly he fits in. My thought is that he's probably a starter, at worst the 3rd receiver. If he starts, who's position does he take? I think if Glenn starts, Ginn sits. The other storyline to watch is Hagan. By all accounts he's been on a mission all offseason, saying he wants to start. If this move bumps him down even further, how does he react?
Bess, no. Foster, I really wouldn't care. How could you want an undrafted rookie over a proven NFL receiver? You're underestimating Terry Glenn's talent. He was playing the best football of his career in 2005 and 2006. The injury he suffered could have happened to anybody. Being injured one year does not negate two years of phenomenal football. No way an undrafted rookie with unpolished receiving skills is going to produce more than Terry Glenn. Just no way. If Bess continues to play like he has, signing Glenn won't be an issue to his job security.
I think Wilford sits. Hagan impresses every off-season and then does the opposite during the season. Once he impresses when it counts, I have no worries lol.
Thing with foster, the guy played Qb and blocks really well, for a small guy. would be kinda neat with his speed and skills to see what kind of trickery we could run with him on the field. Just a thought.
Ginn played QB as well in High School I believe. EDIT: It was in one of the blogs today. He threw a 30(?) yard pass to someone on a WR pass.
Your correct but why keep one of them when you invested a ninth overall pick a short time ago who can do the same?
Because there has been a lot of ninth over all picks who have failed as well.. I don't think it will happen to Ginn, but you never know..
I don't know...IMO it doesn't really make sense to have Ginn and Glenn both as starters because they have such similar styles. The more I think about it I think Glenn should be a third receiver at best...not sure how effective he will be after all the problems he's had, and also not sure how much we want to depend on him.
Yeah, he could fail. You have all that money invested in him and he can do the same things as this undrafted rookie can. Why keep the guy who your going to be paying $550,000 - $750,000 and take up a roster spot when you have millions invested in a guy who does the same thing. And when you let that rookie go, you can add to a position that may be needed such as a CB or OT.
jim carey... Ginn is more of a #1 WR, while Glenn is perfect for a #2 spot. It worked with him and Owens.
I see that. I think we talked about this same exact thing in another thread, didn't we? You also need a veteran or two to go with that youth.
Yes Because they totally suck Thats why their second all time in players drafted. Also they will be first after next years draft, thanks for playing though.
I agree, you have to have proven talent to back up that youth and help them along the way. They are a great safety net being veterans and I think Glenn can help this WR corp immediately. So once again I love this move.
Not much of a surprise .There is a comfort zone between this regime and Glenn and we do need some veteran depth IMO. Every year we have a few training camp wonders but most cant translate that talent to the regular season.
This is not the best news for Dolfans...This means that we forfeit an up and coming WR for a broken down one...or at least one, who if healthy, probably can't stay that way very long..his knees are shot... I have like Glenn, but now, with his injury history, I'd rather see a Bess, Foster, Kircus or Camerillo stick, particularly since we don't really have much of an offense around him...If we were one or two players away, had an established QB, a decent TE and a reliable OL, sure...bring him on...but at the point we are now, will a Glenn, who (like JT) has only a year or so to give, really help or really hurt this team ???
Thing is, we need players for the long haul, not stop gap guys that will no longer be here in 1-2 years from now. one of the things this team needs is continuity.
While Glenn was good in 2006, he is now a 34 year old wr coming off of a major knee injury. The odds are against him being as good now as he was in 2006 and the odds of him being here more than 1 or 2 years are even worse. I'd prefer to give Ginn more time as a starter or Hagan more time as a #3 and see if they guys can develop. I also don't see Glenn playing STs so keeping him at the expense of a Bess or Foster might hurt those units as well.
I'm fully in agreement here. If we were getting the Glenn of 06, I take him in a heart beat because he was proven and still playing at a very high level. 34 is old for a WR and if his injury has slowed him even a little, I just don't see him being that effective. He was already at the stage of getting by on savvy rather than physical skills during those big years in Dallas. Given that we are rebuilding, if they have any potential, I'd like to see what the young guys can do. If Bess and Foster look like they can be players, I'd hate to give them up for 1 year of an aging #2/3 reciever.
Great news I really hope this happens thi would be great for are young wide receivers it will show them the ropes
