Consistently? I'll just say I remember him getting stuffed when trying to do that way too often. Like I said, it's just memory and maybe mine is wrong, but I remember saying that to myself a lot while watching games.
An X Factor in all of this, first time in Yrs Kacy Rodgers is not the DL coach He was acknowledged as one of the best DL coaches in the league, and Terrell Williams does not exactly have a resume of note.
OV is more of a bull rusher type of DE, he has a lot of power but not an explosive first step, though his 9 sack per yr avg over the last two is a bit deceiving, he tends to get his sacks in bunches
Right, that's exactly my view of him too. And as a bull rusher he does consistently push the blocker back, but not (based on memory) when he tries spin moves.
Per PFF, 4-3 Defensive Ends. Out of 59 players. Cam Wake — 1st Olivier Vernon — 16th Derrick Shelby — 31st $12M per season as Armando thinks? Don't see it. OV's not dynamic, nor a game changer. He's always a step slow and a hand away from the big play. He's young though and this season is his money maker. We'll see...
im not sure what your looking for, he's got a wicked spin move...maybe your saying that he does it to often with no result, I'm not sure.
Vernon is 24. He has a lot of upside left in him, imo. Some guys enter the league at 24. Vernon hasn't even reached his peak maturity, knowledge, strength, or athleticism. I love him. He's not an explosive, Wake-type player, but I do think he can be a solid 10-12 year player who gets 8-10 sacks a year. I wouldn't break the bank but I think we can get him signed to a solid deal where both will be happy.
Usually, he either bulls his blocker to get to the Qb, or drops back inside on a Qb escaping Wake 12 millie a yr for him is crazy money, would pay Shelby 1/3rd of that in FA and get similar production
I don't think I agree, haven't done a count on his spin moves relative to pressures..I just know Ive seen him pull off some sick ones.
Gonna be awfully hard to run on this front 7. Damn near impossible if Coyle sticks w his habit of bringing a safety into the box on early downs. Teams are pretty much gonna have to come out throwing, and even then they'll be in trouble bc the pass rush will be just as good as the run D.
I think OV plays pretty good for us so far, he is 24 and he usually is going against every team's best player LT. So far he has done OK to me. He covers the run pretty well and when they move him inside he usually beats the guard. I think he could be much better at RDE when the time comes if need be. We have some young guys also that I think will play well for us.
Not that far off though to be honest. An 8.9% pressure rate isn't that far off a 10.2% pressure rate. Literally just 3 hurries difference, relative to Shelby's snap count. And for their careers, Derrick Shelby's 8.4% pressure rate is higher than Vernon's 7.5% pressure rate. I think he brings up a valid point. Unless Vernon continues to improve then Miami would be much better off having a guy like Shelby play the position for a fraction of the price.
