Best team in the league just got a little better :wink2: Tex's bat better come through, Kotchman is a good player who'll be missed for sure.

Good move, plus if Tex signs elsewhere in the off season the LAAOA get 2 draft picks. It's win win. Like you said Kotchman is a nice player but isn't anything special.

    The Angels just got scarier.

I'm still shocked the Angels made a trade at the deadline. For a rental player too lol. It's unheard of!

I hadnt even thought of that. Not a bad deal at all when I consider that.

Tex is clearly an upgrade this season over Kotchman. Both play good defense, but Tex is a much scarier hitter. Kotch seemed like one of those guys Scioscia loved, so I wouldnt have been surprised to see them balk at dealing him. Hopefully it works out.

I like the trade but I really liked Kotchman. He has a great glove and his power was just starting to come around.

I hope Tex can make us forget about Kotch, (which he should if the trade works out as it hopefully should) but Kotch seems to have been a fan favorite so it wont be easy. Hopefully Morales is ready to come up and take over at 1B if Tex isnt resigned.

From a fantasy perspective, I am happy, as the lineup protection for Tex will be (or should be) huge.

From a Yankees MLB perspective I hope Cashman signs him in offseason, and also hope he doesnt hurt us in '08 when facing that lineup.

:theman:= Tony Reagins(I don't think Stoneman makes this deal IMHO) ....I still can't believe it! I've whined about us not picking up "bat" before the trade deadline for 3-4 years now...and just when I would've been ok with the Angels not getting anybody this year(Hunter..who's on FIRE)....BAM!! they go out and pull the trigger...You gotta believe our Halos will try real hard to sign Mark to a new deal.

Its a shame we couldnt have built a team around Tex. He said he wanted to finish his career here and we have alot of cash that'll be freed up next season with some expiring contracts.

I hate to say it but it just feels like it's the Angels year. With K-Rod chasing the saves record, the team grinding it out to score just enough to win games, beating up on Boston this year (a team they never could beat in big spots), now getting Big Tex. I just think karma is on the Angels side right now.

Who's to say the Braves can't resign him this off season? Well just the fact that his agent is Boras but if he really likes the Braves he could come back.

I think the Braves asking for and getting Kotchman is the reason we wont re-sign Tex. I would seriously doubt he comes back here. He'll go to the highest bidder (which wont be us) IMO.

Yeah I agree I'd be shocked if he signed with the Braves. From what I hear he's a money whore and has the perfect agent for that.

Them getting rid of Tex pretty much breaks the camels back for me.

I have no more hopes for this team's ownership being interested in fielding a strong team. They are the Marlins north and will only win if they happen to string enough cheap emerging players together in one season to ride them into the postseason. Tex is a star caliber player they could have built a core around but again they show that they just aren't interested.

Shame Ted Turner isn't the owner anymore.

Angels think they can sign Tex and CC Sabathia this offseason

According to this article, Angels will push hard to sign Tex and make a run at CC Sabathia as well.

I'm not sure the Angels will shell out over 300 million for two players but I guess we will see. Bottom line is if you're an Angel fan you're waking up happier today than yesterday.

I agree with you Tex is a player you build a team around, but to call the Braves the "Marlins North" is a bit much considering they have a $109M pay roll thats good for 10th highest in the league.

Its's not that they're not interseted, they gave up two top prospects last season to acquire him. Hes a Scott Boras client plain and simple. He's hard to negotiate with and the Braves have a policy of not re-signing players in the middle of a season.

This was inevitable once we fell out of the race IMO.

i agree, it hurts losing Tex, but i would rather see them add a young 1B to replace him, far cheaper, and use the differential on pitching for next season, especially in light of Hudson's ligament damage, and my own serious doubts as to whether John Smoltz ever pitches again.

I hate to rain on the parade here, but I am still not worried about the Angels. Does anyone here honestly believe they can beat the Sox in October?

I don't know maybe this year will be different, but I guess I've been conditioned to not worry about that team over the past couple of years. Also, Teixeira is a nice player, but am I the only person in the world who thinks he's a bit overrated. If you're THAT good and young, why is this your third professional team in a little over a few years?

No offense bro, but thats a very homeristic comment. Anyone can beat anyone in October, and Tex is great regardless of how many teams hes played for.

No I don't think Tex is overrated. He's a fairly young switch hitting gold glove first baseman. I don't think him being on 3 teams so far means anything, it's not like he was traded when he was in the minors 3 times which would raise red flags (Andy Marte anyone?). The reason why he's been traded 3 times is because he was on bad teams, his agent and is going to make a boat load of money.

Well to be honest the Sox have had the Angels number. The Sox swept the Angels in 2004 and 2007 and I think we have won 9 straight vs the Angels in the playoffs. The Angels scare me a ton this year though.

Teixeira to me is slightly overrated. He is a really solid hitter, but he won't hit for a great average, and he is pretty good at getting the hollow rbi's. I have watched a ton of Braves games and his D at 1st is no doubt Gold Glove.

As far as getting traded 3 times, the Rangers offered him 144 million over 8 years before they spun him to the Braves for a great package (Salty, Andrus). In spring training of this year Frank Wren of the Braves offered Tex a contract at 19 million a year which he turned down, so the Braves moved him too, not wanting to collect just 2 picks. Boras has said he looking for 10 year 230 million dollar deal (wow) so I think both the Rangers and Braves did good to move him.

To me Tex is a great player that wants to paid be like one of the games best which he isn't. I don't fault him for not taking the money if he thinks he can get more but whatever team signs this guy for 8-10 years I think we be sorry, unless salary's reach ungodly levels. He has been to 1 All-Star game.

I'll stand by the comment, Teixeira is a solid player at a loaded position. He's not a superstar by any stretch of the imagination.

Maybe they'll beat the Sox this year (I never said this was not possible), but they'll have to prove they're not going to roll over and play dead again this year in the postseason before that sentiment changes.

Is he really? You would hope an outstanding player would have been to more than 1 All-Star game.

He's a good player at a loaded position. He's not one of the games elite first baseman.

Not really. It's fact, as Greenmonster has already pointed out.

Until the Angels show up on a big stage, I'll have thoughts of Chone Figgins practically vomiting on the Fenway field in 2004.

If the Manny thing grows more legs by tomorrow I'd be more worried about your Sox making the playoffs than beating the Angels in October. I was laughing at not fearing the Angels, not what you said about Tex. I havent seen him enough to really comment on him yet.

Manny isn't going anywhere. This happens every year, yet he continues to show up and produce.

I do agree though, the Red Sox are not playing well and they're no lock to be in the playoffs.

I respect what the Angels have done over the past few years. They always field a very competitive team. That said, until they hit the Red Sox in the mouth, I have a hard time worrying about seeing them in October.

That could very well change this year, though. Congrats on the 2nd sweep in a few weeks. Goodluck the rest of the way and see you in October (hopefully, if the Red Sox can hold up their end of the deal).

me too... my mom always liked that Angels, because she loved Gene Autry as a kid. she used to get a kick out of seeing him in the luxury box at the games when they were on TV.
