You should also recognize that it's not crazy to have him ranked between 8-14. In fact that's where the consensus lies. Opinions outside of that range are outliers, extreme positions.

You're the only one making that observation. Unless you chose not to read the posts and chose rather to take a completely shallow, mocking position. Really, those are the two options.

I also think there's a natural tendency to focus on the negative when you see more of one player and less of another. Reality is that we all probably watch every play of Tannehill's (multiple times for some of us). I'm sure we all watch other games but I doubt anybody would claim to watch every play of every other QB. Most likely we all have a few other QBs of whom we can say we watch all or even most plays. For some QBs most of what we see are highlights or the one or two games against the Dolphins. As a result we all see every negative play that Tannehill does and some of the negative plays for most other QBs (and in some cases, mostly just their highlights). The natural tendency is to start believing that Tannehill has more negative plays than other QBs even though it's really a prejudice born of our own fanaticism.

    Out-pitched is one thing...out-dueled is completely ridiculous...they're not playing tennis...THAT is a duel....not QB'ing.

This is where the agenda comes in. Someone loses credibility with you if their opinion is CKap is a better QB (I do not think he is) but you like a post calling Tanny better than Matt Ryan and Philip Rivers. That's not being logical, that's simply hearing what you want to hear.

So, you think Tannehill wouldn't have put up big numbers with the run game Matt Ryan had along with Roddy White? Or when he had White and Jones both playing at a high level? Our how about throwing at Vincent Jackson in his prime, along with Antonio Gates? Hell even last season...check out the squad Matty Ice had last season.

It's almost impossible to tell who will end up being the better QB. At this point, it's Rodgers and it's not even close. That's certainly not a knock on Tanne and stats will certainly not nearly be telling enough to judge or make that decision. Now, I really like Tanne. I am happy they extended him. They really had to. He's been getting better every year. The second half of last year, he was without his starting LT. Just a little problem there. Our rookie RT who was doing very good had to all of a sudden switch positions and go to the left. He was doing great on the right side. That has ramifications all along the line. Judging after that is pointless. Personally, I think Rodgers is one of, if not the best QB in the league. He's great. Tanne is very good. I just hope he continue to progress and becomes one of the best. All teams have injuries, but the OL has been a mess for a while now. I'm not putting it all on the OL, but it is a problem that definitely can not be ignored nor diminished. Even the uncertainty with Albert's health now as well as the uncertainty at Guard is worrisome for this coming season. He has some great weapons to work with now, but it will probably come to the OL yet again. If we can get a bit more consistently good OL play, then we may have a better idea. There are not many "great" QBs. Tanne is solid and a guy you can win with. He definitely has room to improve. I hope he does.

One other thing, Fin-omenal...Look at last year, statistically, and the third year QB, who you are acting like it's ridiculous to say is better than Rivers or Matty, played basically to the same stat line.

And given the discussion on "out-dueling" the opponents QB meaning something, Tannehill was part of the destruction of Phillip Rivers and the Chargers, was he not?

Ryan and Flacco are going into their 8th seasons, Stafford his 9th. Brees, Rivers, Romo, Manning, Brady, Ben, Eli, all 10+ years in. If you narrow the discussion to QBs with 5 years or less, the guys he'll be competing with in the prime of his career, Tannehill looks pretty damn good.

Rivers is a proven pro bowl QB...a game in Miami vs Rt does nothing to discredit that. Last time Miami played SF what happened? Was CKap part of the destruction of Ryan? No.

Matt Ryan hasn't had a defense as good as Miami's in his entire career, and what run game?

Matt has played with OLs every bit as bad, the defense isn't even worth discussing. Matt Ryan is a better QB than Ryan Tannehil and you have to have on your special Aqua n Orange glasses if you can't see that.

You're literally changing what I asked. I said nothing about defense or wins, or even olines. I recall Matt having a pretty good run game his first season or two. I've never really thought Matt Ryan was a special quarterback. Better than average, but not great.

As much as I like Ryan Tannehill and believe in the progress he's been making, I don't put him above neither Flacco nor Matt Ryan as of now... though I do expect him to end up surpassing Matt by his 5th season, if not by the end of this one.

For the record, Michael Turner was going off for like 1300 a season for three of Matt's first four seasons.

And by right now.... You mean the past. Matt Ryan at his peak with Tony Gonzalez, Julio Jones, & Roddy White wasn't THAT much more impressive than Tannehill last year. We finally have some decent weapons, instead of force feeding the likes of B.Hartline and a lowsy version of Mike Wallace you seemed to love so much.

You are discrediting Matt for having 2 subpar years early in his career, so you have to give CKap credit for doing the opposite right?? Michael Turner was force fed, Lamar Miller averaged over 5ypc...again you can't criticize one guy for something then apologize for another. That makes you look silly.

    Yes he was.

He actually threw the ball downfield, he didn't bubble screen, slant and quick hitch his way to a good completion percentage he went out and played QB. Will Ryan become a better QB than Matty Ice?? It's possible. But to put them on the same level now is a huge stretch.

Tell me about it. Kaepernick has been to the Super Bowl once and the NFC Championship twice. We saw him rip off the longest run of his career against us yet it's crazy to say he's more desirable than Tannehill.

Rivers has shown a lot more than Tannehill has. I never said Geno is better than Tannehill but you somehow believe Tannehill is better than Rivers. Why? Because of that one game? Rivers should've been embarrassed, BTW.

I never said Tannehill was better than Rivers. I said it's not crazy. I don't value running quarterbacks like you guys do, I guess.

And no, I don't think Matt Ryan is all that. He's had very good/great weapons since he came in. Also, I DON'T BELIEVE IN ONE QB OUT-DUELING THE OTHER. You guys bright up Geno Smith a if that reflects poorly on Tannehill, so I used YOUR logic and referenced Rivers being shut out by Tannehill and the Dolphins. Of course, now you want to backpedal, and say that's meaningless, and attack me for saying it. It's your argument, dude, not mine.

So was Alex Smith the year before. The 49ers were a good enough TEAM to win with any decent QB.

Read the thread. You are responding to things I said, and apparently that I clicked Thanks on, in regards to things said by others. I also was responding to Finsfan with most of these posts. So, go ahead and be confused, but a general reading of the stuff being said in thus thread should make my posts pretty clear.

Specifically, that last post of mine that you quoted, was entirely directed at finsfan.

Speaking of Aaron Rodgers and Matt Ryan, funny how we had opportunities to draft both of those guys but chose guys who
are not even with the team no more......our great front offices sure makes it hard to brag about anybody....

The Matt Ryan never had a good defense talking point is false. Go check Nfl reference. They were 5th in D just a couple years ago.

The interesting thing about Matt Ryan is, the Falcons have ONLY been successful in season's where they've had a good defense.

Well their run game both went before their defense. Really hard to win without one or the other, never mind both. Imagine Tannehill with the worst defense in football, Daniel Thomas as their lead RB, and a leaky offensive line.

If he got to the AFCCG with that, it'd be impressive right? Well the Falcons got to the NFCCG with the 24th ranked total defense (their scoring d was good but they allowed 5.9 y/p close to worst in the league, a lot of ball movement but interceptions) and the 27th ranked running game.

Matt Ryan is underrated by a lot of people. He's been a very consistent QB throughout his career. Some people look at his receivers and think it's obvious that he should be, neglecting the fact that he's not had a stable offensive line or run game these last few seasons.

In 2013, Matt Ryan dealt with quite a bit of turmoil. Roddy White had injuries that rendered him ineffective. He played decoy most of the time. And Julio Jones had foot issues and missed 3/4 of the season. Tony Gonzalez was the only source of consistent talent. Matt Ryan turned Henry Douglas into a 1000 yard WR. Even with all these problems, Ryan still threw for 4500 yards and 26 TD's.

In 2014, Ryan was absolutely let down by his defense. I'd be excited with their new coach, if I was a falcons fan. From Hardknocks, it was very obvious how incompetent that falcons staff was.

He got to the NFCCG with a rushing attack that totaled a mealy 1300 yards. Had his best season too. He needs a decent team around him. Who doesn't? Nobody is saying he's Aaron Rodgers, but All they've had the past couple years are him and a couple receiving options. It's laughable how bare that team is. Even Big Ben needs a decent team around him. He's not a QB that can carry a team all the way but he's MORE than capable enough to win a Super Bowl no question.

That is a pretty fair assessment, I think, Jdang. It's funny, because that's kind of where I'd put Tannehill right now, and there's plenty of people on here who would want Matt Ryan over Tannehill, even though they're probably about the same...except Tannehill has only completed three seasons. I think that is why myself and others think higher of Tannehill, because we think he still has a ways to go before he hits his ceiling, while we're comparing him, mostly, to guys whose ceiling we already know they're at.

Matt Ryan may or may not be better than Tannehill if we're just talking regular season, but Matt Ryan is a known commodity (choker) in the playoffs, and Tannehill is not. Tannehill is still getting better. I'd take Tannehill even if it's justifiable to rank Matt Ryan ahead of him (slightly).

Tanny is in the discussion. I have him ranked below Ryan for now, because Ryan has demonstrated the ability to be effective short, medium and long. Fair or not, for now, questions remain regarding Tanny's deep game. Maybe it was the receivers and this new crop (Parker, Stills and Jennings) will show it. Maybe he needed another year under Lazor's offense and now it will click. Then we can play pickem.

To win a superbowl you need several pieces, and when one is lacking, another needs to pick it up. Nobody is winning the superbowl with no run game, a leaky offensive line, and no defense. Nobody. You'd be lucky to make the playoffs. We've got a decent run game (although for some reason the coaches don't view Miller as a workhorse), a defense that shouldn't be in the bottom 10 in the league. An ascending QB and some weapons. We really should not miss the playoffs this year.

Up to Tanny to lead the way. With this new contract and the power struggle last year between he and Philbin (yeah I said it) with Tanny winning it, let's see what happens this year. Tanny needs to grab it by the reins and take charge. Just improve his deep game slightly and we're cooking with peanut oil.

NFCCG, beating Seattle is a choker?

Did you see what Tanny has done the past two years trying to get into the playoffs? Let's not be ridiculous here. Don't make me pull the stats from the last two games of 2013, win and you're in.

How about the other playoff games, like that embarrassment against the Giants in the wild card game if I remember correctly. I remember Ryan being more a liability in the playoffs in many cases. Don't have the stats handy right now but that's what I remember.

And "must-win" games in the regular season may be the closest to post-season that you get, but I'd still wait and see how Tannehill performs in the playoffs before claiming he can't play under that kind of pressure. There are QB's that do well in the playoffs that have lost "must-win" games in the regular season.

Not to mention, expecting your second year developing QB to carry the team on his back, when the vaunted defense with veterans is in the fetal position, seems a little silly.
