Dennis Hickey Analyzes The 2015 Rookie Class Good, refreshing video interview of Hickey b/c once again, he sounds believable. Although small clips the action footage of the rookies is much better than the still photos. D.Parker's start around 2:48 mark. http://www.miamidolphins.com/multimedia/videos/Dennis_Hickey_Analyzes_The_2015_Rookie_Class/8b6d6032-f5bd-4596-a5d4-1eb48e5d5844
I think the rookie I'm most excited about (outside of Parker) is Tony Lippett. I have a buddy who is a Michigan State fan and the minute we drafted Lippett, my buddy texted me that we just got an amazing player. The more I see of Lippett, the more I like him. I don't think he'll make much noise this year, outside of maybe special teams, but in a couple of years, he is going to turn into a VERY good player for us. He's been compared to Richard Sherman. He's a very similar player. A 2-way WR/CB with good ball skills. A guy who fights for the ball. Interestingly enough, Sherman was picked #154. Lippett #156. As an aside... when I was looking up where Sherman was drafted, I found this scouting report on him: From NFL.com: Sherman is a size prospect with some good intangibles that will help him mold into a contributing backup corner for a press-heavy team. However, he does not possess the natural coverage instincts, fluidity or burst to be considered a future starter. Is comfortable and capable in press man, using his size to disrupt receivers' releases off the line, but doesn't show enough make up speed to consistently recover when beaten. Awareness in zone and off-man are only adequate. Has average ball skills but some upside as a playmaker. Tough against the run but still developing from a technical standpoint. Sherman is a Day 3 prospect. The guy that wrote that? Yeah... how do I get his job?
I think some folks on the board may of underrated D parker.. and Hickey has found his perfect role..head scout who loves to submerge himself into the evaluation process and embraces the grind, yet also has the status of gm.
OMG...I was SO HAPPY when we drafted Tony Lippett. I couldn't believe we got him. All that dude does is make plays, EVERYWHERE. Iron Man...
Like another Big 10 boy, Chris Gamble. Played Played wr then both ways for my beloved Buckeyes then many good years in league as a corner. We should be so lucky.
This draft was not a typical Tannenbaum draft (lack of trading up + accumulating lots of low round picks) so I think when it was announced that Hickey was in control of the draft there was some truth to it. Yeah, Tannenbaum has to sign off on things, but it doesn't look like he put his stamp on this draft.
There was an article on Sun Sentinel that stated Hickey wasn't onboard with Jordan Phillips, but Tannenbaum nagged him into taking him. Not sure it was overruling, but could have been. Don't have a link.
That wasn't my understanding. Hickey was going to deviate from his board and go for a "need" pick instead of taking the BPA as per his board and Tannenbaum told him to stick to his board and take the BPA. Nothing about not being onboard, nagging, or over ruling was mentioned. Omar started this crap with his Op piece, then corrected himself after getting called out, but only on twitter:
We were too light on picks to move around cbrad. I fully expect the next offseason to be VERY interesting.
We were missing basically only our 3rd. Thing is, Tannenbaum is known for finding firepower to make trades that net him the guy he really wants. You saw what he did with Suh this offseason, and in the Jets' drafts he did that most prominently with Revis. I'm pretty sure Tannenbaum would've traded our 2nd or some future pick with no regrets if he thought there was a player worth taking. So the question is who were they high on? We know they were high on Parker. Maybe they liked Gurley, not sure, but it's hard to imagine Tannenbaum sitting at 14 knowing St. Louis, Minnesota and Cleveland are picking before you (even NO possibly) that could all take Parker. I don't know.. wish I knew what their board looked like. But the prime trade candidate was the Giants sitting right above them, especially since we know who they took (OT Flowers). I bet a sweet offer would've gotten us up that high. Who knows, I can't prove it wasn't Tannenbaum, but to me the draft was not very Tannenbaum-esque.
I disagree.. I think Jordan was mentioned as trade bait for the Eagles only. That would be for a trade down, potentially acquiring a key player (Mathis?) in addition to picks. I don't think Dion Jordan was wanted commodity by anyone drafting above us.
Yeah, hard to know without seeing their draft board (or getting a clear answer from Tannenbaum himself).
So psyched about this kid. I love that pic where he is jumping like 10 feet off the ground. Huge catch radius, fast, go-up-and-get-it and lets not forget a guy named Jarvis Landry. We have a potentially very dangerous group of receivers .
Maybe it is just me, but I would rather have Parker over K. White. Something about White during all those draft show specials turned me off. I have no background info or anything (and could be totally wrong) but from a snap judgment view he had a false bravado kind of thing going on that I wouldn't trust.
i think there is good context in there, this isn't a black and white situation that some are making it out to be..
