Makes me feel a lot better about passing up on one of the stud true #1 wideouts in last years draft. This is our best WR corps on paper in well over a decade. DeVante Parker is a stud and I truly don't see any big flaws in his game. He may not get the separation that Amari Cooper gets, but he still gets open often. And when he doesn't, he still catches the ball. Just ask PJ Williams and Ronald Darby what they think of Parker. He shredded FSUs defense this past year.
Sometimes you need an actual player's perspective and advice when it comes to playing a position in the NFL. Things a position coach can't convey 100% of the time. That may be one of Jennings' roles, along with the fact that he still can play at a decent level.
Why would you say Kenny Stills won't get playing time? He's the only deep speed guy we have right now.. Parker had a few deep catches in his college career, but it won't be as frequent in the NFL with that 4.45 40. If anyone is going to ride the bench, it's going to be Parker, IMO, but he will be groomed to take Jenning's spot. Parker and Stills complement each other.. the one situation, though, that I truly see Parker stealing playing time from Stills is in red zone plays.
I guess so. But this team is mainly 3 WR sets. So one of Parker, Stills, Jennings, or Landry won't be happy. To me it's too crowded. I think Jennings time will be reduced on the field. Hope he is ok with that. I want to see the young guys on the field.
The InFist family were all hoping for Gurley. Their hopes were dashed. Have you no sympathy for their plight?
Jennings still has his legs. Even at 31, I really think he's the best WR on the team. Jennings is anti Wallace. He's a jack of all trades type of WR and should contribute to team YAC significantly. I think he leads this team in all major categories statistically for us. He's basically been mired in crap in Minnesota (although Teddy B is promising, he was still a rookie) and was in a 4 way time share in GB with Nelson, Cobb, and Jones. In Miami, he's the best of the bunch with a QB who excels in short-mid range passing. I'm really looking forward to seeing him this year. I don't see him coming off the field tbh. The thing with Stills is A). He cost us a pick, Jennings didn't. B). Unlike a draft pick, Miami doesn't get him locked up for 4 years, only two. So if Kenny Stills is going to be a real part of your offense, you have to play him and see what he has. Frankly, I'd rather Miami keep the 3rd round pick and use it/or a 2nd to move up for White, if WR was that coveted. Again, I'm not upset or anything. Miami tried to trade down it appears and it didn't work. So they went BPA and Parker was arguably BPA. That method is a winning strategy, IMO. I just think the WR corps are a bit crowded and I clearly have a higher opinion of Jenning's than most.
https://youtu.be/VomN9FMUuOg?t=49 This catch at 49 seconds...The concentration....while off balance bobbling the ball...headed right into that upright. Doesnt give a f*^&. This catch sold me on Parker. I was iffy, But I sure hope he exceeds my previous expectations.
I freakin loved all of his answers. And, although it might not be important to anyone else...Devante's suit he wore was just a plain, non flashy suit. He came to get drafted, not for the television exposure. He seems humble and ready to play football. http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-videos/0ap3000000489506/Parker-I-m-glad-I-ended-up-in-Miami
If you are complaining about this pick you are an idiot. This guy is exactly what we wanted/needed and he fell right into our laps. He is going to make a Plaxico Burress like catch to win us a superbowl one day...you heard it here first...
I believe BPA at 14 was Marcus Peters. He would've been drafted earlier had it not been for character concerns. Anybody else read into the time it took for the Dolphins to decide? I call BS on Ross claiming they wanted him all along. Why take so long? I believe they tried to trade down but had no takers. I personally wanted to find a way to get Tevin Coleman and Ty Montgomery plus one of those Oregon OL.
Finally a first round pick that I can cheer for. The WR corps is looking MUCH better squad on paper. Definitely diggin' it. Now let's get Denzel Perryman or best available LB at #47, the best corner still OTB in the fourth, and then BPA at other need positions in the later rounds. This could actually end up being a great off-season for the 'Phins.
I've got a concern here with Parker, and it's a big one. I see he wore #9 in college, please, please, please don't let him pick #19 in the pro's.
As a number of us have said, about the time Tannehill gets the breath knocked out of him as his back hits the ground underneath a DT who has blown through the line and planted him with a sack, I am sure he would think that a good offensive line would be composed of five IMPACT players. A sack is a drive killer, specially on third down. Therefore, to the perspicacious, it could easily be said that the missing parts of an even adequate offensive line have had as much impact on the games played as any one 'glamor' player - those who touch the football and get to celebrate a touchdown as if it's all because of them. I fail to see how anyone who has followed, let alone played the game can call any single player an "impact" player.
Yes we need a guard, but I just don't think we need a first round guard. What would be the net difference for the oline as a whole between: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pouncey, James, Albert, Turner and 1st Rd Guard vs. Pouncey, James, Albert, Turner and an average Guard ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Do we really think there'd be a major enough difference in line play that its worth passing on the #3 WR in the draft?
I thought the exact thing after watching his highlight videos. I don't see Michael Preston making the team either. But they probably won't let Parker change his number when Preston's cut. Hopefully Parker just takes 11.
And he GOES UP TO GET IT! He's helping his QB, believe me Tannehill is going to love having these blankets. Gives him a bigger radius to throw too, only makes him more comfortable!
Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. being a first round pick, they're going to want him to settle on a number quickly, so they can start selling that jersey probably. Like, I got an email from NFLshop.com about 5 minutes after the pick was announced trying to sell me the jersey.
89 would be nice. I think that's presently held by Gerald Robinson or something like that... who also likely won't make the final roster. So cough it up buddy.
lol at passing on Gordon....I could run behind Wisconsin's line.... Their WRS are 22, 22 and 23 with RT at 27...They will be together for a long time hopefully...
Stoked about adding DeVante Parker - an elite prospect - without having to trade up. Miami can now trade back in the second round if it wishes to add a third rounder (unless Eric Kendricks is available). Address guard in the 2nd/3rd (maybe a guy like Marpet?) and then cornerback and running back in rounds four and five. I'm excited to see how the Dolphins finish this draft, but they sure have gotten off to a good start.
I'm hoping for one of Kendricks, Perryman, or McKinney at MLB in the 2nd. So I'm not sure if I want them to trade down. In the 4th round I would like a G.
WR makes sense at 14. He seems like a good talent and I like our WRs as a whole. But having Randy Moss and Jerry Rice won't make a ton of difference if you're getting sacked 50 times again. Solidifying the offensive line would be a nice compliment to Parker and should round out the offense. I wouldn't mind a running back, but not in the 2nd round. Guard, corner, and LB are still much bigger needs.
