Decided to go ahead and buy my PS4 this week. I was originally going to get it with Madden, and play that along with Dragon Age 3 until the new year. However, with DA getting pushed back and The Show on sale, I went ahead and grabbed it.

I got the PS4 set up after my kids went to bed Wednesday night, and was excited to check out the game. I knew that I'd have to do a system update in order to get online content, but I was frustrated that I needed to do an update even to install the Show! The PS4 is completely useless without a broadband connection - can't even play a game on a disc! Unfortunately, I have crappy Satalite internet and its near the end of the month - meaning I'm almost out of bandwith to use from 7a-midnight, so I got up at 4:30am Thursday to do the update. After that was done, I popped in the Show, and it (not suprisingly) had its own 250mb update to do, so I did that. However, the most suprising thing was that the game had to competely install on the PS4 before I could play it. I had no idea. Thats going to hog hard drive space for sure.

After all of that, around 7am after a total of about three hours of setup, everything was installed and ready to play. However, my kids were up, so I had to turn it off until about 9pm last night, lol.

It was worth the wait. Really like the new menu system. Much better looking and easy to navigate. It feels like there are more options to personalize the game settings. I don't remember the adaptive difficulty being there the last few years - I'm using it and had a really good first game where I won 2-0 and actually took 3 walks! The graphics are very good of course, but not a quantum leap from the PS3. Gameplay was really, really smooth though.

One change that I really like is that created players now go through the 6-year player control process including arb before they hit free agency. It was frustrating to play in a franchise using the OS-full minors roster and have a rookie become a free agent after the first season.

Anyone else planning on getting 15 on Tuesday? I'm gonna pick it up at Gamestop in the morning, but won't get to play until later that night. Too bad they don't give squat for trade ins anymore.

Not sure if I should preorder it from ps store to get the free mlb team skin for a controller, or trade in my last two 360 controllers to put towards it (at least $20 off, probably more)

Installed it earlier. Drove me CRAZY that I had to play a whole Gaints/Royals game before I go do anything else. I'd rather just look at a loading bar :tantrum:. Oh well, done now.

Tonight, I'l start editing contracts before jumping into a practice franchise.

So that they reflect reality. Its a brand new feature. the MLBPA doesn't allow player contracts to be real within the game (for reasons apparent to only themselves). However, this year, Sony got clearance to make them editable, so that users can set their franchise up properly. I'm a huge franchise guy/GM simulator. I'll use the OSFM rosters from Operation Sports when they're done in a month or so, but until then, I'll make my own (minus minors) and do some franchise practice.

3 hours to install everything. Ugh. I was hoping to do more than play San Francisco vs. Kansas City today.

Didn't take me that long - maybe an hour, but it still sucked. Other games just don't take as long.

Took me about two hours to fix the NL contracts. I'll get the AL tomorrow and then jump into the game.

Played through an entire Heat-Spurs game (w/o LeBron) before the damn thing was done.

I like Over the cap for football, but Sportrac has all the sports, and is generally reliable for baseball.

Note that in baseball, teams often don't release contract details for pre-arbitration players, who often make around the league minimum until their 4th year unless they sign a longer team friendly deal before then. For those cost controlled players, you'd likely have to look deeply into individual fan sites, which is more work than it worth to me. You can just assume that most of them make between 500-700k/year.

Put it in, played 2 SF/KC games....still wasn't done installing and then I fell asleep....I don't know if it loaded all the way or not because my PS4 shut off after an hour of non-activity....

Also can you carry Franchise modes from year to year like RTTS? For instance can The Show 14 Franchise mode be carried over to this year's edition?

You can carry over a franchise from 14.

Mine installed after kind 7 innings, wasn't bad at all

For those interested, the OSFM (Operation Sports Full Minors) rosters should be available this weekend. They're always great, and apparently even better this year. You can count on not only 99% of the guys in the minors being there, but being accurate in both ability and appearance. I'm waiting to start my "real" franchise until I get them.

Based on your recommendation I held off on starting a Franchise mode until later on. I've been playing the RTTS mode, which has actually been pretty fun and is a quick way to burn through several games.

Yes, that is why it is appealing to me. I just don't have the interest to play the whole game and all positions, but I love RTTS.

I enjoy RTTS more than any other game mode in any sports games these days. It is so great. Progressing into a major leaguer w realistic ups and downs is a unique experience.

To update my previous post, the OSFM rosters are now available. However, they've decided not to use the real contracts because it apparently throws off the game's logic and can lead to weird situations if you play or sim MANY years down the line. That being said, I've simmed through 2017 using my roster with real contracts and seen no issues whatsoever. As such, I'm taking theirs (with the full minors) and editing all of the contracts to match reality, and then will start my own. With the blessing of the guys who did all of the legwork on the OSFM rosters, I'll then upload my own for anyone and everyone to use.

Jumped back into The Show for a while after finishing the Witcher 3 and picking back up where I left off with my 2016 Cubs franchise. You know you had a good game, when the Player of the Game:

-Isn't your starting pitcher, who threw a complete game 3 hitter with 1 ER, and 15 Ks
-Also isn't the guy who goes 3/4 with 2HR and 5 RBI

-It's the guy who hits for the cycle, going 5/5 including two triples, and 4 Rs.

The Arizona Diamondbacks are a very, very bad team in my franchise, lol. But a fun opponent!

I really, really wish that the show still came out around the time Spring Training starts, like it used to. I both really want to jump into the new season with the game, and having completed AC Syndicate, I don't have anything else going on until Uncharted comes out in April. Getting the game at the end of Feb or early March gave me the time to get back into the swing of things and try to "keep up" with the real season as I played my franchise. Apparently though, first week sales of the game are better when it launches close to Opening Day.
