Basically it tends to happen when you cuff or curl the ball while trying to hide it with your wrist or spin it a certain way...wheeler tends to curl it sometimes. Your forearm drops below a certain angle and it changes the mechanics putting more stress on certain areas that cant handle it. Thats how ive most commonly seen it happen. In the examples above though its referring to the non throwing arm and the way its shaped...

Its kind of odd that suddenly we are opening the checkbook and getting our players paid...

Thoughts on the Bryant situation? To me its just another flaw in the system.

Yup pretty much although stuff like this happens every spring, not sure why the media always makes it out like such a big deal.

Happens every spring yes but it is stupid that if you keep a kid down for a few weeks you gain control him for an extra year. Meanwhile you can draft that same kid and if he refuses to sign you pretty much lose the pick.

The current system as a whole doesnt make sense. Now throw in the lack of an international draft.... Seems the more they try to make it "fair" the more they F it up.

The system is stupid but it's smart of the team to hold a kid back for 10-14 days to gain an extra year of control.

I don't think logic fans would mind waiting 2 weeks to see a player in order to keep him for an extra year. Again I agree it's a flawed/broken system though.

Man CC is toast, I thought he was toast a few years back but he is nothing more than an avg 5th starter at this point.....He simply cant keep the ball in the yard....

Fink any word on your catcher?

FWIW that kid who played last night for ND Pat Connaughton is a prospect for Baltimore...they say he throws a plus fastball, good athlete...

34 years old and has tossed over 2800 innings. If healthy he should be decent, but if not then it's probably the end of the road for him. HOF career IMO.

Yeah I think no matter what's wrong Vasquez will be out for at least the first month or so of the season. So getting Leon is simply for depth and not to rush Swihart who isn't ready yet.

EDIT: Sox put Vasquez on the 60 day DL so yeah he probably needs surgery.

It's rare but Wieters got TJ surgery last year (I'm assuming that's what Vasquez most likely needs) and it's usually an 8 month recovery.

I don't know how to answer that. I don't think any player, whether it's a pitcher or position player, is getting TJ surgery for the hell of it, if they need it they need it.

Mets have signed Juan Lagares to a 4 year extension worth over 20M according to Bleacher Report and Metsblog. Not sure how I feel about that. I like Lagares and he'd probably have been Super 2 eligible next year since he has over a year of service time. Id like to see continued improvement with the bat to justify that though

Also, gotta love when a team does something like this: The mets put Dillon Gee (3.91 spring era) in the 5th starter role over Rafael Montero (2.40 spring era and finished strong last year 2-3 starts last year). The entire league knows the mets spent all offseason trying to trade gee. He can be good at times and was good before his injury derailed him last year but Im not convinced that putting him in the rotation to boost his trade value over someone more deserving is the right move.

TJ surgery for Vazquez tomorrow out for all of the 2015 season. Really sucks for him, with Swihart nearly MLB ready, this might have been his only shot to establish himself as an everyday catcher for the Sox.

Hey Boik, at least Harvey looks like Harvey. His spring line: 1.19ERA, 17 hits allowed, 21Ks in 22 2/3 IPs.... God, it's so good to have that dude back!
