I think you guys are looking at the steal we got in Satele Would you guys trade Ginn or Allen for Welker right now? I wouldn't If you have a player you don't let them go for a LATE second. We don't have any playmakers on this team and I believe Welker was our leading receiver who we could have signed for decent coin. Chambers was also a player but his contract situation made him more expendable
15? The list is MUCH longer than that: http://www.nfl.com/stats/categoryst...3-s=RECEIVING_YARDS&d-447263-o=2&d-447263-n=1
When you have a Restricted Free Agent, teams have the ability to offer a large contract to the player, and we would have an opportunity to match it. However, they could put in the contract that if he plays 4 or more games in Miami in one year... that the entire contract becomes guarenteed. If the Pats have that in their contract for Welker, its no big deal, because he wont ever play 4 games in Miami playing for the Pats. However, if we choose to match the contract and keep him in Miami, his whole contract would become guarenteed... which is outragous... It basically doesn not allow you to not match the offer from the other team... and forces you to trade him...
Repeat after me.... WE... DID... NOT... HAVE... A... CHOICE... WHETHER... TO... TRADE... WELKER... OR... NOT...
I thought it was a pretty accurate comment.. care to share what you find so funny... I'm looking, I just can't find any humor.
obviously i told u our team is cheap. they dont spend money until we go 1 and 15 or 4 adn 12 etc etc for 4-5 yrs in a row and ull see why.
worst DPAR in the NFL 2005 he was a part of 74 incompletions, over 18 drives alone. worst in the nfl by far
I think we should have resigned Welker way before he became an UFA. That way we could have focused on other positions rather than having to deal with the whole Pats taking Wes Welker from us. How embarrassing is it every sunday to watch Wes Welker have success with a division rival that we could have if we could put it all together? The problem is we never put it all together in terms of developing a team by keeping the talent we have and bringing in more talent to complement.
Noone was a bigger fan of Welker than I was, but resigning him just didn't make sense for us. A team like NE that is always a SB contender can afford to pay big money to a #3 WR, the Phins can't. We have too many holes to fill before we can afford that type of luxury. Besides, we were able to use one of those draft picks to select Satele who may very well anchor the line for the next decade. A really good center > a really good #3 WR
The same Hadnot who is leaving via free agency, or at least seriously going to test the waters of the market... To put this into perspective, 6 yrs from now, we could have a perennial All Pro Center, 6 yrs from now, Wes may be giving color commentary on the NFL today....
gonna be fun to watch him develop. i remember the years of mawae kicking our butt. its gonna be payback time
You keep going by those stats, really. One thing about stats, as my college stats professor once said, 'with stats, you can make Roseanne Barr look good.' Wow, 74 incompletions, all of those were Chambers fault.
Acordingot footbal outsiders.com cris chambers is the 51st best reciever in the legeue this year. he only has two td's and only catches 50% of the balls thrown his way. look at page http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/wr.php 89-C.Chambers MIA 10.1 51 9.8 50 -1.9% 55 -2.4% 118 850 2 50% cris chambers was ok but not a top 40 wr is sorry he just wasn't. 2006 ranked 82nd best wr dvoa vaule/ performance 2005 ranked 62nd best wr dvoa value/performance 2004 ranked 57th best wr dvoa "/" 2003 ranked 23 rd best wr dvoa "/" 2002 ranked 57th best wr dvoa ""/" 2001 ranked 17th best wr dvoa "/" only in 2001 did he crack the top 20. He is not and never was a #1 quality starting wr. he should have been a #2 or #3. We spent way to much time waiting for him to show up. He never did so am I glad to see him go no but I not gonna cry.
If I were playing the Dolphins as a defensive coordinator. The first person I would focus my defense on is Chris Chambers. This has been beaten to death. If you really think Chris is the 51st best receiver in the league, well, that's on you. But for those that look beyond the stats, Chambers is hardly #51. Just a quick example, people and fans are saying Shawne Merriman is having a HORRIBLE year compared to lasts..HOWEVER, for those that look at the intangibles and look beyond just sacks -- he's having a MONSTER year. Another example, San Diego is not ranked as high as they were last year in offense...but then again as far as efficiency and points scored -- they're at the top (I think 6). Total yards is not what you base your opinion on players on. Like said, take into account the type of talent Chris Chambers is and the surrounding cast around him. No offense, but who else (besides Chambers) is an offensive threat while he was in Miami.
chambers didnt do much of anything besides his 1 pro bowl year...he was inconsistent and had butterfingers....he always missed the easy catches and caught the difficult ones
Stats aside, Chambers simply didn't get open often enough, and couldn't catch the ball on a consistent basis...and it doesn't matter if Barney is QB...when the ball hits your hands, catch it. That's the frustration we've dealt with for years.
I'll share, the notion that two very good football players cannot help a football team is hilarious, none of us on this site can project what these two players would of done in their carreers here if they had good Quarterback and line play, THATS NOT THE FAULT OF THE PLAYERS. mY GOODNESS, what are we talking about here guys, IS'NT THE OBLECTIVE OF A TEAM TO FIND AS MANY GOOD FOOTBALL PLAYERS YOU CAN. i believe are new vice president said it best the other night when referring to jason taylor whether he should stay or go, the answer that was given by him came out loud and clear with sarcasm all over it, "the objective is to get as many good players as possible, last i checked jason taylor was a good player" What i'am sayin is this, if we all look at the big picture wes and chris would of locked down their positions on this team for the future, Wes being our slot and being the best in the game and chris moving down to the 2 wide receiver position and being the best in the game. I find the notion that wes and chris could'nt help us this year absurd, getting rid of them because we have the worst quarterback play in the hirstory of the nfl is wrong, THATS NOT THEIR FAULT. THATS NOT HOW YOU PROJECT AND BUILD A FOOTBALL TEAM. Now these two positions have glaring holes that we must replace. If i'am a gm, once i know i have a position locked down, i move to the next position, especially if they players have the character i like, What i don't do is lock down positions and then let them walk for almost third round picks hoping that i'am going to replace their production and character with rookies at that selection, ITS COUNTER INTUIATIVE !!!!!!!! IF I HAVE TWO PLAYERS ON MY OFFENSE THAT ICAN RATIONALLY PROJECT AS BEING THE BEST AT THEIR POSITIONS IN THE LEAGUE {wes in the slot and chris being a number two}, THEN I'AM GOOD ,i move on to other positions. This is not chaos math here its simple common sense.
I just noticed it...Wes Welker = Jason Kapono. Nice players that teams in contention might be willing to overpay to put them over the top but otherwise they aren't all that good on a team that needs alot of work. Only difference is the Dolphins actually got great value in return for Wes where as the Miami Heat just didn't descend into salary cap hell by not signing Kapono.
HAVE YOU EVER TRIED TO CATCH KNUKLEBALLS THAT ARE BEHIND YOU OR OVER YOUR HEAD, if you were a catcher you'd have some gorrible statistics
I guess you do not know much about DVOA or DPAR. none of it is based on total yards. it is all about efficiency. the point of them is to eliminate factors such as poor teammates. funny, but chris chambers had the lowest DVOA of any dolphins WR. just because he has exceptional athletic ability and makes the occasional spectacular catch does not make up for the fact that he cannot get any separation. hes a poor-mans plaxico burress.
and yet, chambers' statistics were the worst for any WR on our team but i guess harrington and culpepper just threw worse balls to him and not welker or booker
basically you say we have 2 good receivers, theres no reason to trade them away so you can take a punt returner with our 1st rounder because you owe his father a favor...I agree...We could have filled a need with that pick, instead we got RAW talent (WTF does Raw talent mean anyways) Dont forget we drafted Ted Ginns family as well.
Maybe when Chris Chambers drops some key passes in the playoffs, the Chargers will be singing a different tune?
NO I actually have not kept track of it, but I do know CC was among the leaders in dropped passes two years ago, and Randy McMichael was not far behind.....not that most NFL stat sites show dropped passes.
cmon aqua. TO's drops are made up for by his TDs and big plays. Chris isnt in the same boat. (not bashing him, hes one of my favorites)
What would lead you to believe that Welker would have with the Dolphins anything near the sort of success he's having now with the Pats? Part of the reason he's doing so well is that teams have to focus so much on Moss. Had we resigned him we probably would have paid a ton of money for a player that would have been no where near as visible as he is with the Pats and then he'd be gone after that year. The way the Dolphins did it we at least got some draft picks for him. I like Welker a lot. He's a tough WR with good hands and route running skills, but he isn't getting open on his own. He's getting open because teams have to choose the lesser of evils when facing the Pats. Teams choose to take Moss and Stallworth out of the game and Brady is smart enough to just kill defenses by hitting Welker. That sort of scenario would not happen in Miami for years to come.
Letting Welker go was one of the bummest deisions in years, And we sent him to our biggest rivals. The muppet who made that choice helped us to where we are today! Zach will play out his career in Miami. End of. In Tuna we Trust lol
