Vikings interested? Ok. Mike Wallace and a 6th rounder for Cordarrelle Patterson. I know they're attempting to trade the former Volunteer. He hasn't quite lived up to hype, but I'd definitely take a shot on him.
Congrats. You are now a member of Fight Club Warning. You may have some sleepless nights trying to catch up but it will be worth it.
That is a trade I would be against. If you're going to trade for someone, trade for a proven talent, not for what looks like a bust so far. You can gamble on players like Patterson in the draft (preferably mid- to low-rounds).
Yah during FA. I work nights. I literally sleep 5-6 hours and it takes me 2 hours to catch up on all the damn posts!
Patterson is a first-round talent. You're not going to find a player like him in the sixth round. Supposedly, he just hasn't acquired a grasp of the offense in Minnesota yet; I'm not claiming he'll be a #1 type guy, but I bet Lazor would have some fun with him. Also, if the Vikings have the most interest, who else would be a target?
He WAS a 1st round talent. Not anymore. He should have grasped the offense by now. Point is, if you're going to throw away draft picks (as Tannenbaum likes to), then you better get a proven talent by doing so. Patterson hasn't proven himself as a top-level WR yet (far from it.. it's all potential).
It's not like his talent has suddenly disappeared within the past two years. His quarterbacks haven't exactly been stellar, either - Ponder, Cassel, and a rookie in Bridgewater. I think a change of scenery would be good for him. Patterson can beat a team deep or with screens, slants, etc. Give him a shot. He's more valuable than that 6th rounder.
He's more valuable than a 6th rounder, but that trade includes Wallace. If you said Patterson for a 6th straight up I'd say hell yeah, but Wallace + a 6th for Patterson and some cap relief? No, not even close. And "talent" includes the perceived ability to learn the offense. If the 2013 draft was held again, but with people knowing what happened with Patterson up till now (admittedly, including the not-so-great QB situation in Minnesota as you point out), he goes at best in the 3rd, possibly lower.
When the alternative is to simply cut Wallace, then being able to acquire a talent like Patterson is a win. Cordarrelle adds that element of speed and playmaking ability that many Dolphins fans have yearned for for yearns now. Patterson can take it to the house on any play - run or pass. Do you remember his game against Baltimore late in his rookie year? Add him, on his rookie contract, to an offense slowly becoming potent, and he'll be dangerous. Minnesota's claiming he's had trouble learning the playbook, but he also was limited by some injuries last year which stunted his progression. He'd be a nice toy - at worst - in Miami.
he's lived up to what i thought he would be, which is not very good relative to the stock, keenan allen should of and would of been that pick if I had any say, he's not smart, but he's good when the ball gets in his hands, dynamic returner...so far it looks like both evaluations were pretty accurate.
You don't have to cut Wallace. So, the alternatives are to either keep him, or find good trade value, and Tannenbaum seems to be adept at this so far. We just simply disagree on what good trade value is here. I just want someone proven, while you don't mind potential-only. I will say this though: for the kind of offense we run, not being able to learn an offense is a killer. And injuries aren't really an excuse. He's been there 2 years and had this problem. But yes, you're right in that he's made some explosive plays.
Adrian Peterson's cap hit for 2015 is 12,750,000. I may be in the minority here, but I don't want to take on that contract - especially considering the cap situation as it is - for a running back past his prime. Granted, he's AD, but one has to be concerned with how much he has left in the tank. He's 29, has gone through a major reconstructive knee surgery, and has 2,262 touches to his name. You can't pay for what a guy has done in the past. It's not smart business to pay old backs that much, especially when you already have a capable one and there are viable options in the draft.
Well, there we agree.. he would need to agree to a restructure of some sorts. Injury history is a concern, but it looks like we're making a run the next 2 years, so it might be a good gamble from that point of view.
Yeah, I thought he was overrated coming out of the draft. I never bought the Randy Moss comparisons; he never struck me as a future dominant number one receiver because of some route-running and hands issues. He's a play-maker, though, and he's proven that in the NFL. I don't think he'll ever be a #1 reliable option, but he'll help a football team out offensively and on special teams.
I'm just not sure a team will give up a proven player that will be a difference-maker for Miami. The only interest as of now seems to be coming from Minnesota - and it's a positive there is actually a semblance of trade interests. Patterson made the most sense in my eyes from a difference-making and low-cap hit standpoint.
He would have to restructure to make it worth it in my eyes. That cap hit is too much for any back nowadays, especially one of his age and mileage.
Yeah, it's tough imagining who'll give up a proven player (at a position of need) or a high draft pick for someone many think might be cut anyway. But, that kind of thinking would've never predicted this offseason so far, so who knows!
Wallace to the Vikings seems all but confirmed. Not sure who we would get in return but I hope its AP.
If they pull of Wallace for AP this has to go down as one of the greatest FA periods of all time for the Fins. On paper anyway.
