I would be for this. Also for going over a certain number of bids. Hell, I even wanted to make it mandatory everyone had to bid stating a players full name and position. I'm all for rules, regulations, and punishments.
Todd (may as well cut to the chase) can advertise whatever the hell he wants (within ToS)... if he posts a trade where he GIVES someone compensation for taking a player... then I'll veto that trade on the spot. I have no problem with that. I've done it before (very rarely) but I will do it if I really think it's unfair and hurts the integrity of the league. If anyone already has then I just overlooked it on accident. I understand shedding cap and you know what? Pretty much every other trade you made, I don't really care about... but once you posted that trade where you gave someone two fourth round picks for one seventh round pick, that pretty much sealed the deal for me. This isn't a sim-style league, I know that... I have to draw the line somewhere though.
I think it was a different year, I was lawyering a lot of CBA stuff just to see what could get Griddles mad... and annoy the rest of the league.
Are people really OK with this? Falcons receive: Nothing Bengals receive: DE Malliciah Goodman - $684,252...............(-$198,544) S Omar Bolden - $778,607...............(-$118,607) 4th round draft pick (116th overall)
They are text messages, but I can send screenshots of them via email time stamped to anyone who wants them.
I don't believe Todd has actually made a trade like that but I could be wrong. I would have to look more into it.
Notice to the rest of the league: if you're secretly willing to screw me over somehow to get a player you covet, just let me know in advance b/c if you want him THAT badly and are willing to create enemies over him, then you can have him and save yourself the hassle.
http://www.thephins.com/forums/showthread.php?84793-COLTS-trade-block Post #12 Post #13 It was a dumping cap move on my part. Those guys were going to be back ups and the move freed up about 1.5 million for me.
No one would go through THIS MUCH trouble just to acquire a player if there weren't ulterior motives involved. NO ONE is scurrying to trade Matt Ryan to be able to afford Tashaun Gipson. Madden Football is even shaking its head at this crap.
I just wanted to bid on player and let the free market dictate where the players signed. I didn't want to agree to not going after JPP because that is straight up collusion. Again, I try to play by the rules. Also you notice to irony of saying you'll let me have Gipson and then bidding on him right? I wish I could figure out how to post screenshots on this site, because I'd post our whole conversation from beginning to end. I have nothing to hide at all.
I don't think this is going to be an easy solution unfortunately... What's likely going to happen in the next hour is this: I'm going to put a hold on EVERYTHING from the moment those trades were made (sorry to everyone this affects, I do mean that). I'm going to message every single GM and they are going to basically tell me whether they think it's OK or not OK that this is happening. I'm going to give them the full story. I'll send my story to UCF for him to read over before I send it out and if he wants to post his side to be included, I will allow that. I will get 30 responses hopefully in the next 24 hours and then I will have a ruling. If 15 GMs say that they are OK with this happening then I'll let the trades happen... and the Gipson bid will go through. If you made a trade with UCF recently, I hope you take your vote more seriously than "the trade helped me so I vote that it's OK". I think I am a fair person, I really do. Obviously people know how I feel about this but I'll let the majority ultimately decide here.
You literally state on your Trade block that you will trade a 4th to anyone willing to take Godser Cherilus.
Just throwing it out there... Todds offer was never accepted so whos to say GiK wouldnt piss in his corn flakes too? Thats not a direction Id try to take the argument.... just sayin.
LOL, there's a big difference between trying to get someone to take on a 6.9M contract b/c the player is uncuttable and you frantically trying to give away players AND a 4th rounder for nothing when those players could be cut with little cap hit. Stop trying to act like it's not bull****, Scrooge.
Sounds fair to me. Thanks GIK, really didn't mean to bring this upon you. I didn't think I was doing anything wrong at all.
and? You can CUT your players. Their salaries are nothing. I don't have that liberty. You just wanna use them to dump the salary of the 4th rounder.
If Todd made a trade that was basically like below: It would have been vetoed instantly... I can promise you that.
also to the colts dude thinking the gipson bid is still out of spite Spoiler march 5th was before free agency started. guy just really wanted gipson
LOL @ Scrooge admitting his superior sense of entitlement right there. "He's mine... I was first to bid $9 million on Gipson so he's mine, *tantrum* MINE MINE MINE."
At least when we had our wars over centers they were good clean fun. I'd let you have Jason Brown or Ryan Kalil if it happened today.
Honestly the only way to fix gutting rosters and super ****ing contracts is making it a multi-year league. Pretty sure if teams knew they had a team for 3 years they wouldn't offer 10+ million contracts to above average players.
I think the narrative of one GM making trades to intentionally screw over another GM is BS. I don't know whether it's true or not, that should be irrelevant in all of this. A GM made moves that he thought would make his team better in the long run. Did other GMs (including myself) benefit? Absolutely. But the Falcons' GM benefited from the trade too. His track record and professionalism over the course of years in this league should be proof enough that he's committed to putting together the best team possible. At the end of the day, he made a couple moves in a short period of time that he feels will help him accomplish that goal. This wasn't a case of a GM doing favors for other GMs and making his team worse in the process, I think anyone that has dealt with UCF Finatic should know that. When we start making calls on what constitutes as a fair trade and what doesn't, that's a slippery slope. Was it fair that a QB who has less than 50 career passing attempts (and was taken closer to the 3rd round than the 1st) went for a Top 10 pick? No. Or that a top 5 corner in his early 20s with a salary less than $5 mil went for essentially a 2nd rounder? No. But it's the GML, it happens. For other GMs to determine what is fair or not and then to have the power to void a transaction is outrageous, especially when it will possibly help that GM's team out in the future -- Can anyone seriously argue that the Falcons will be worse off because they no longer have 2 4ths if they end up fielding a secondary that includes Gipson, Chris Harris and Trufant? I get that the quick turnarounds of the trade can be unsettling, as well as the fact that he seemingly didn't get anything of substance back in return for the trades. But it's not the job of other GMs to vote on whether one GM's moves are fair or not, especially when that GM's track record is pretty darn impressive and that there's a clear method to the madness. Because of that, I think if there is going to be a vote on the trades being vetoed -- which I wholeheartedly disagree with -- there should 1. Be transparency, so it should be an open thread where GMs vote to veto or not and 2. There should have to be 15 "veto" votes, not 15 "not veto" votes to revoke the trade. Not every GM is on this thing in a 24-hour span, so requiring half the league to say "yes" in that span is pretty unreasonable IMO.
I'm not letting things continue until I hear from everybody or enough people to the point where I know what the majority decides. 24 hours was an ideal thing... not a "this happens in 24 hours and a decision is made" thing.
I highly encourage everyone to read the PM's sent between Todd and I. I was honest and expressed my interest in Gipson early on and never wavered. I never responded out of anger and kept my team in mind at all times. Here is a link to every single PM exchanged between the two of us: http://www.thephins.com/forums/showthread.php?85361-The-ENTIRE-PM-Thread-Between-Toddphins-an-UCF-FINatic
That's fair. I just wanted to make sure all voices are heard, since this does impact me directly. My stance on it is clear. For the record, appreciate the work you put into this. It's a thankless job, and dealing with this **** has to be annoying. I too believe in the integrity of this league, it just happens that in this case I believe trades shouldn't be tinkered with or overridden if a competent GM is making moves that clearly are made to better his team.Like I said in previous post, that's a reallllllly slipper slope to start making judgements like that.
Those are different that those were the best values offered for those players at the time, there wasn't an ulterior motive. The Bears felt they weren't going to get a better QB at 7 or whatever and thats what he valued Jimmy G if he were in this draft. The other trades made by the Falcons weren't with the same motives of adding to make his team better in way that doesn't hurt some integrity. Those two trades involved him giving and taking a 7th back only to include another 4th. I didn't look at the trade as a vacuum, but what Griddles put up there... a trade for nothing.
