Is he really worth a big contract at this point? Spending on a 33 yr old seems a bit reckless.

If I wasn't clinging to the hope that Jordan could really play well at OLB, I'd like to see us trade him straight up for Mathis. I'd rather give up a fifth rounder right now though.

I would absolutely take him on his current contract. Saying we can get him for a fair price.
5.5mil this year. 6mill next year. That is a solid plug and play.

If he is demanding and extension, I wouldn't make the move. Regardless of the price to get him.

2nd ranked PFF guard... Yes I will.

Yeah, Mathis is def going to be our LG. Put Billy and Juwan next to each other and with Brandon's health. That is a very very solid line.

Heard possibly a Mid round pick.

Other possibilities.... Jordan (Oregon Connection), Ellerbe (similar contract), Wallace (lost Maclin???)

I'm ok with the last two but really would like to keep Dion, unless they blow us away and throw a 2nd/3rd round pick along with Evan.

Crossing my fingers this isn't Wallace for Mathis...
There are rumors/talk up here near Philly about Wallace.

Edit: Rumors aren't from anyone with credit. Just heresay/talk from idiot Eagle fans.
Idiot Eagle fans may be a redundant statement.

Not in favor of it just some scenarios that could be in play. They would not trade Wallace for Mathis straight up but for a pick thrown in as well....hm.

Jordan I want no part in trading also cost us $1m to trade him.

Wallace for Mathis is not too bad considering they'll likely cut him next year and there were even rumors of him getting cut this year too. Save money off the cap, and get a good guard back. I don't like it particularly since Wallace had a productive year and is still a different type of athlete, but it's not an awful deal.

Jordan for Mathis I don't like at all unless a 1st or 2nd round pick is coming back to us too. Much rather the coaching staff get their head out of their *** and play Jordan as linebacker where he belongs.

I like to think I know pretty much every player that comes through here, but I have no real memory of Mathis being on our roster for 7 games in 2008.

Wallace for Mathis would be a coup for the Dolphins. A wide receiver whose salary-to-productivity ratio is poor, for a player at a much-needed position whose salary-to-productivity ratio is much better.

Crazy talk. There's a reason Wallace has a huge contract. He has the ability to change games, Evans does not.

I suspect your and my definitions of "changing games" are vastly different. If you consider that Wallace's salary prohibits the team from improving its talent elsewhere on the roster, you could actually make the argument that Wallace "changes games" negatively.

Grew up in central PA and now live in northern DE. I couldn't disagree more.
I have tons of Eagles friends. Some are super knowledgable about football. But when it comes to the Eagles they slip into delusion. And those are the good ones....

Not sure how that argument still works after we just signed Suh for $114 million.

Every player whose salary isn't justified by his productivity is hurting the team to some degree.

Suh wouldn't have been signed if a handful of those sorts of players weren't jettisoned beforehand. Wallace is a remaining player of that nature, and so further improvement of the roster in addition to Suh will be prohibited by Wallace's salary to some degree, while Wallace's productivity doesn't justify it.

I'm not here to say Wallace is irreplaceable. I know that his production hasn't matched his contract. I just do not agree that a straight trade, Wallace for Evans, is a "coup" for the Dolphins. I think that's an exaggeration.

How do you replace Wallace and Hartline on the outside this late in the game...

There aren't many outside guys left in Free agency. Cecil Shorts, Dwayne Bowe or Hakeem Nicks are no Mike Wallace.
I guess you could get one guy with pick 14, but that is not enough.

So that trade would just create a hole at another position.

Gotta pump the brakes on Mathis. I'm positive the Dolphins have been in touch, but that doesn't mean anything is in the works because it takes all of 5 seconds for the Eagles to communicate an asking price that Miami doesn't like, for example.

    You are changing your stance.

There's a gulf of difference between saying Salary X prohibits the team from improving talent elsewhere and saying Player X not playing up to his salary is nebulously hurting the team.

The simple fact of the matter is that while we were so "burdened" by Wallace's contract, we found a way to sign the largest salary in NFL history for a defensive player. That absolutely disproves your first post.

If Wallace is traded, you are basically left with Landry and a group of question marks at WR. In fact trading Wallace would give the Dolphins a group of WR's who would be considered worse than what Tannehill had in his rookie season.

The only WR's who I would have any interest in with the Dolphins first round pick are White or Cooper. I just don't see either of them being available at pick 14 and the Dolphins have too many needs to move up and give up a second round pick. Because that is probably what it will take to move up high enough to be able to draft either White or Cooper.

I would rather the Dolphins see if the Eagles are interested in trading Mathis for Jordan. The Dolphins need Wallace in 2015 far more than they need a very average Jordan.

No. Just reminds me of paying a older guard and him coming here to drop off significantly. I am being a normal, pessimistic dolphins fan, with no proof i have any reason to feel that way. Dont mind me.

Considering that the team has been trying to trade him to rid itself of his salary and hasn't been successful to date, any trade of Wallace, especially for a player at a needed position whose salary is justified by his play, is a coup in my opinion. Just getting his salary off the books via any trade at all would be a coup in my opinion.
