Didn't get a chance to listen live but was checking out some of the transcripts from Andrew Abramson he posted. Not sure how people view Mr. T but it's clear that this is his show. The press conference should've hinted at that but after this morning's interview I think he's running the operation. I am fine with that, hope Hickey has some input in the draft process which he ultimately will. Here are some things that popped out to me: Tannenbaum on Dion Jordan: "In a 4-3 he can be a rush end as well as Sam." ...That's 2nd time we've publicly heard Jordan to LB possibility Tannnebaum: "Dennis has final say on 53-man roster. I know it sounds confusing. He does report to me. It's about making best decision." Tannenbaum says Suh is going to help develop Chris McCain, Terrence Fede Tannenbaum says he's had "number of disagreements" with Hickey & Philbin, but that's normal. They get in room & come out with best decision Tannenbaum on Charles Clay: "While he's checking out his options we're checking out ours." #Dolphins VP Mike Tannenbaum on Joe Show asked where team has most needs right now: WR, CB, OL depth, LB depth What I gathered from them: That is great to hear because the coaches haven't let onto it at all, which is frustrating. The fact he recognizes he can play Sam and in feed clarifies he can "drop back into coverage" means to me the man recognizes we need to get best players on the field where they can succeed. Finally, some clarity that Hickey reports to Tannebaum and so far so good. Their approach to FA has been pretty solid IMO for the limited resources That might be the 3rd time he's mentioned McCain....Great cause the kid can play. Fede's size is scary good and if Suh can help him develop only more reason for us. Don't think people recognize Suh's influence to help develop players as well as increase their productivity due to the focus on him Some may look at that as a bad thing but it's impossible to believe that FO and Coaches agree universally. I guarantee Philbin was pounding hte desk against Suh, and you know what I'm glad we made the right choice. We know Philbin can't coach and the team is betting on their future than his. Finally! Love that line. In the past it's been frustrating to watch players entertain other teams and we sit waiting with our thumbs up our a**. The fact we're brining in a player in Cameron who can replace Clay if healthy. Might hurt to say but healthy Cameron > Clay Glad to see that WR is one of the first thing's he mentioned. The fact he mentions CB means we may not be done. OL depth I hope means OG cause we still have significant need there. Where was FS btw?
Wow that's a lot of info he gave out... being a Dolphins fan these last few years, we're not used to hearing that much transparency on the team's plans. Looks like WR is very high on his list of priorities... that to me confirms we're going hard after one of the top 2 guys, Cooper or White will be a Miami Dolphin by the end of the first day of the draft, IMO.
Brasfin, right that is what I am saying. Can't remember the last time I heard high level type speak so openly about players and where the team is heading. I'm sure there was some slight of hand. Confirms to me they want a WR, they will not get White...unless they trade up (can't do that). Cooper who knows if he is there I take him with one second expired from the clock lol. More likely, Parker/Strong in 1st if that's route we take. Reason we can't trade up: After signing Suh, with RT17, Pouncey needing upcoming deals. On top of Vernon/Miller going to be looking for deals, we are going to be tight on money. That means' these next few drafts are so vital to our team's development. Last year was a good start with James/Landry. If Turner becomes the guard we need. Throw in McCain/Fede developing that a good start from the 2014 draft. We need to hit a Alpha WR, as Wallace won't be on team past 2015 if even that. ILB - need someone to man the middle OG - need to draft one for at least future, if not present Looking at those three positions and seeing how FS plays out if we can hit on those that is a hell of a 2 year start.
Here's a link to Rose's page. The interview is the 4th one down on the page. http://miami.cbslocal.com/audio/joe-rose-show/
Good post, but I disagree about us not being able to trade up. If White/Cooper or Waynes (he said CB too) fall to #10 or so, we would be facing trading a 3rd to jump up to get them. I'd do that in a heartbeat; the quality is worth an extra 3rd.
I agree that it might be risky to trade up, but I think Tannenbaum is a high-risk, gambling kind of guy. I think if they like a player enough, they will do everything in their power to get him, as evidenced by the Suh signing. If they love someone like Cooper, I think they will try to trade up to get him. Question is, would a 3rd be enough to move to around the 10th or 9th pick? If not, then it might not be worth the trade, looks like there'll be a lot of value in the second round this year.
I was just going by this (estimated) draft value chart: http://walterfootball.com/draftchart.php For us, a 3rd gets you exactly to #10, which is right before Minnesota and Cleveland, after which most think White/Cooper and Waynes will all be gone.
That's good.. it might also be enough to get to 9, if NY really wants to trade down... throw in a 5th to sweeten the deal and it's done. The fact that most teams want to trade down in this draft ("sell" their pick) makes it a buyer's market, so it's possible we get more value there, like we did in the Jordan trade a couple of years ago.
White will be gone by #10. We just signed CB yesterday and have another in town now. Waynes isn't on our board. To trade up for Cooper I wouldn't hate it just don't think it's best recipe for success, just see how FA plays out.
Abramson tweeted that Tannenbaum said about the safety position that the plan is to sign one and draft one. They seem to be of a mind to re-sign Louis Delmas so they could get him back and then just draft a guy like they did a year ago with Walt Aikens.
Oh, didn't see that. Interesting just really hate putting eggs into the Delmas basket. I like Parker and he hasn't signed. I'd love to see the Bears interest turn from Parker to newly cut Dashon Goldson... familiarity with Fangio could play in there.
Excellent post, Z. I totally agree with everything Tannenbaum said and everything we've done this offseason. You're also right about FS. I'm gonna speculate and say that I interpret this as Tannenbaum saying he needs time to address all of our needs or he's looking to trade down and acquire more picks in this draft. Heck, maybe even trade for next year depending on the round and our return on investment.
Hope Delmas is rehabbing hard, heard he was which is good. Also heard he was a big character-witness for Suh (from Detroit days together)....Hope he comes back healthy and ready to roll.
Dan, Thanks Man. It's refreshing to have a transparent and competent man running the show. And let's be clear Mr. T is running this show. Hickey and him seem to be in sync on the layout fo this team. I just can't believe he was able to rid us of those crappy contracts in one week, that was impressive. After trading our 3rd rounder for Stills, would be completely open to trading back into the 20's and still having a shot at Kendricks or Potential OG.
I don't know just how good the guards are but I also wouldn't mind trading a fifth or later round pick to the Eagles for Mathis just to tie us over and allow us to draft BPA amongst our other needs (CB, for example).
