leading a team in receiving that has no other talent is only moderately impressive. if he were much cheaper, then he might not been cut. like any business, it always comes down to your value. at Hartline's contract he had very little value.
IDK, I'm guessing it has something to do with how limited the offense is with Hartline starting in it. Brian Hartline's tombstone: Here lies Brian Hartline ..... and here... and over there..... and over there too.... ...and next to that hashmark....and just short of the end zone... ... and way over there....
would be much more likely that if he did sign with NE that he'd be pretty mediocre EXCEPT in the 2 games that he played against us where Belicheck would make sure that Hartline excelled against us.
I thought Hartlines most endearing quality was as a sideline WR.He was not the deep threat Sparano thought he was to replace Marshall. He was an adequate middle of the field WR apart from his falling down after the catch habit. Its on Ireland for negotiating such a bad contract with him .He was not worth the contract amount for sure but he did seem to have some chemistry with Tanny. Perhaps there will be some renegotiating of his contract.
I think Hartline values himself a lot higher (after those 1k seasons) than the Dolphins do, so I'd be surprised if they come to new terms. But we'll see..
Really, really sad. Not surprised, but still really sad. One of my favorite Fins of all time. I was a big fan of his as a player since he was at Ohio St. I was so excited when the team drafted him and gave him a shot. I would say that this might be the most upset I've ever been with the team cutting a player under contract (not trades/retirements). I love the style of his play and the routes that he runs, and I hate that our new offense has gotten rid of those. Oh well, I can't change anything about it. I'll hope that we bring in good players in the future. Not attached to any recievers or tight ends left on the roster.
1k is barely a benchmark in this passing league. Maybe in the 90's that was considered elite but I can make a list of 1k receivers that is just average. 800-1k should be pretty much expected in this era for an average receiver. 1200 for an above average receiver and 1500 for elite. It wasn't long ago when a quarterback throwing 3300 yards was considered a great season, now that's just average. That's what a guy like Kyle Orton can do.
Maybe, but take a look at all receivers from last year that passed (or barely passed) 1k and tell me if you think Hartline belongs in that group. With few exceptions, I'd say no. And I'd also argue many that just barely passed 1k are not what you'd describe as average receivers. For example, WR's that had 1000-1100 yards in 2014 include: Vincent Jackson, Anquan Boldin, Calvin Johnson, Steve Smith, and A.J. Green. http://espn.go.com/nfl/statistics/player/_/stat/receiving/sort/receivingYards This is why I say Hartline is probably valuing himself far higher than the Dolphins do. We'll find out if that's true, but I'd be surprised if he signs a new contract with us.
Instantly increases the overall team agility. Smart move, one of the cuts I thought needed to happen. On Deck; Ellerbe, Finnegan, Gibson, Shelly Smith, Fields.
I'd say don't let the door hit you in the *** on the way out, but doors aren't usually found on the ground.
I appreciate the productive seasons he had before this year. Hartline was always a little dismissive to the media, but always great to the fans. Like others have said, he's just not a fit in the new offensive scheme. He was perfect for Sherman's, not so much for Lazor's.
I don't hate the guy...I'm not that much of a self-righteous prick. But I'm not sad to see him go...he just didn't fit well in this offense...nothing personal, I hope he does well and has a good career after this (as long as it's not on an AFCE team).
Yeah I'm not a Hitman fan at all but I'll never rejoice over another man losing his livelihood, that's on some period panties type ish.
He's not losing his livelihood. Calm down buddy. Neither is Wallace if he's cut. Hell Josh McCown just signed for $15m. Double Hell Derek Hagan is still in the league. Derek Hagan is 30 and is still in the league. Don't need to shed a tear for Hartline. Just rejoice he's finally cut from here.
I'm sure they'll snag a big playmaker with the whopping three million they saved. /sarcasm Wasn't crazy about Hartline's salary either but I don't see how this is some great move forward. They're not going to replace him with anyone halfway decent unless they throw a stack of money at Cobb and then everyone will be complaining about how overpaid he is before the year's over. At least Hartline had some decent chemistry with Tannehill, no one else does. It's been a revolving door at the wr position for a few years now and the elephant in the room has been Wallace the whole time. He's the guy that gets paid superstar money and he's the guy that can't seem to form any chemistry with Tannehill. At this rate we'll draft another possession receiver in a year or two, get rid of Landry, and admire our fancy new toy that's not much different than the guy before. People were all excited when we got rid of Marshall and replaced him with Wallace. How's that worked out? But he just fits the scheme doe.
Hartline = Modern day Greg Camarillo Glad he's gone...so so so glad. He should never have been more than a #4 who on occasion gives the #2 a breather.
With the injuries that past few years it looked to me his physique simply did not improve...he was as about as weak as a receiver you could find in the first place, and I didn't see any improvement in his physique nor strength over the course of his stay.
Again, evidence of our pathetic franchise. Fans pop champagne when we lose a guy that has been a huge contributor for 6 years. Not when we actually get a player, or win something. Hartline may not be a favorite around here, but I actually hope he does well in the league. Last year hr wasn't great, but when he made some amazing catches and racked up 1000 yards for 2 years, he had you cheering I'm sure. Sometimes I really think this teams fan base deserves the torture they get. Ever since I started coming onto phins message boards it seems most the fans hate the actually phins. A guy could have a great Game, or bleed aqua, or whatever and still phin fans will say. "Yeah he sucks tho in reality, so what could we save when we cut him?" I think you are all in fantasy land if you think that few mil is gonna buy us some superstar. Keep drinking to losing our players though, its really all you've got.
I'm going to miss all of his 474 yards and 2 touchdowns from our #2 receiver. How can we replace such talent! You all love keeping mediocre players, and then ***** and moan why we lose. He had to go because he sucks at his job. When you suck at your job you get fired.
Yeah, I don't think Hartline was some sort of huge piece of our offense, not do I think his production will be missed in the slightest. Huge contributor? Nah.
Being our only real contributor for a year is not the same as being a huge contributor or even worthwhile. I mean if you're forced to choose between the flu, a broken leg or cancer, it doesn't mean you won't try to get rid of the flu after you picked it. It doesn't mean the flu was good. Hartline was good at sideline catches. That's it. He was pedestrian to downright awful at virtually everything else.
And I am not sad in the least, to see that ugly AZZ mustache gone !! People are worried how we replace all that talent? My goodness, we might only be able to draft, and in a rookie contract, pay someone like Amari Cooper.....Imagine that !!!! Wouldn't that be just horrible? ( Sarcasm ) LOL.
Parker's ball skills and physicality should make up for his problems creating separation, he reminds me of Boldin, a faster version. If he can run basic routes, curls, slants, screens, fades, digs, posts, he'll do fine across from Wallace imo.
If theres a way to trade down to get another second round pick or third id be all for it... Theres a lot of nice receivers and i wouldnt mind getting Strong later in the first whilst having another pick. We need a lot of young talent to come in
